What's up with all the new spam? I've been with namesilo for some time now and all the sudden I'm getting spam phone calls for domain services and also getting emails.

I just purchased a new domain with privacy even and the next day someone was contacting me through the privacy email.... If the domain is privately registered, how are these scammers immediately getting access to my information?

I know the company is making changes but this seems to be in the wrong direction. All the sudden during Christmas 2019 and the beginning of 2020, I've been harassed by emails and phone calls that NEVER happened before.

It seems like Namesilo's protecting whatever person is doing this as I tried to reach out to contact the CEO office and when I asked for information I was ignored and blocked from support, after of course the person kept answering anything but my question.

Private registrations keep your email private but have a unique email in the whois for people to contact you - Namesilo is not leaking that info. Every new reg I do there gets spam for the first few days - in spite of having privacy enabled by default.

You might want to edit the thread title - sensationalist complaint threads are not popular these days, requests for support and info are.

I tried to get support and was blocked. I understand privacy emails still forward emails, but the day after purchase? Someone has got to be working with and selling information to these scammers somehow for them to see my purchase from the day before that was suppose to have "privacy".

No, that happens at every registrar. There are automated processes that scan for new domain registrations and spam them asap.

It is a good idea to ask questions and investigate before making accusations.

The privacy email is required so someone can make contact with you, for example if they want to buy the domain name or have some issue with how it is being used, without them coming to know your email address (and therefore it cannot be sold for general spam use). I think the OP is misunderstanding this.

I have gotten messages through the privacy email at various registrars. I don't understand exactly why, but some names seem to trigger them more than others. And as @carob notes they often are mainly in first few days.

And no, it is not that the registrar is selling the information to anyone. The person or company sending the private email are simply tracking which domain names have been newly registered.

Thats exactly when they come for everyone. Spammers look for new registrations – thats how they know whom to spam. Besides, it makes more sense to spam early, since it usually some kind of seo/design/development/register-in-search-engines offers, which would have much less chances to work with any established domain.

Duly noted, however after 7 years, this is the first I've gotten any spam like this.

For a customer to buy a domain name with privacy protection, and that list of domains ends up in a scammers pile to advertise them fake services, even if the email is a privacy-forward, to me it doesn't seem private when you get spammed all the sudden.

For me after 7 years, this year I spent Christmas time being spammed and called multiple times a day, something that had never happened before, and going into 2020 all of this is linked to my namesilo account.

Even domains I had as private on my account are no longer private, namesilo claimed it has been this way for .US domains since 2008 but I haven't been a customer that long and still up until a few months ago, they allowed all my .US domains to have privacy, changing all the sudden with no permission or no notice.

What or who blocked you and how? They do respond to support emails, same day in most cases. And there is a live chat and it works.

Anytime it forwards emails. Unless you opted out from whois email forwarding in namesilo control panel. The domain is regged - it is enough for the registrant to start receiving spam. Not registrars issue. Actually, with some registrars there is no email shown and the only way to contact the registrant is through webform. NameSilo opted to show privacy protected emails. Both ways are OK as per ICANN rules.

I've been getting truck tons of spam lately, all from older domain regs. I think some old who-is data lists are available out there from like 2015-2016

Yes I get spam to emails uniquely used for domains I have not owned for years - they definitely scraped and saved this stuff for years.

.us was never supposed to allow privacy afaik.

Some extensions do not allow privacy. Not sure about .US, but .IN for example does not allow private registrations. So, what is the issue? Setup your own privacy. Use P.O.Box or mailforwarding service, it is allowed. Phone calls? Purchase a virtual phone number with voicemail. Such numbers are cheap. Or, purchase a local SIM card with a similar feature (not to be inserted in any phone).

I've had domains for a few years and literally NEVER did I once get spam until this past 2 months from my namesilo account/purchases. I get all the detailed stuff, I just don't get how something sold as domain privacy gets you spam services the next day. I get eventually someone might look you up and email your privacy-email, but still... you buy something private.... day 1.... day 2, spammers are contacting you for services on something you wanted to be private.....

seems like ultimately fraud there to me. I get after a month or so, but if I buy something private, how is next day release to scam artists considered anything private?

If I was getting emails after a month of a private reg I would understand, but on the very next day seems illegal almost. I get they use scrapers, I get there are loopholes, what I don't get is why private doesn't mean private, and why support doesn't mean support for Namesilo.

They blocked me from chat support after I kept asking for CEO's phone number, but I only kept asking because I was continually ignored until after so many times of having to ask the same question. I've got a reply now from the other support team but even still, it's the same scripted replies I was getting in chat.

They are ignoring my exact questions and my exact details just to tell me it's possible through the loopholes, but I know all this. I'm confused as to why they don't care I've been with them 7 years and now all the sudden, am being spammed through Christmas and new years because of whatever recent activity on their end caused me to be harassed through these times.

Were you successfully able to obtain CEO phone numbers from other registrars (GoDaddy for example)?
but if I buy something private, how is next day release to scam artists considered anything private?
You did not buy anything private. Privacy option is free @ NameSilo. You purchased a domain. The list of newly regged domains is something centralized. It is called zone file. Spammers do use it. Each and every day they are looking for new domain registrations. No spam earlier? You were lucky. I wish I've been that lucky (deleting dozens of emails each day from Indian SEO specialists and the like), for years already...

domain privacy
Privacy means they don't know your real email, unless you respond to them. It is not supposed to block emails. You can configure your spam filter for all those mails coming through Namesilo.

Mmm...CEO phone because of some domain spam? Don't take that as an insult, but you're a difficult customer. You can still call the United Nations about this issue.

I did get CEO phone numbers for Godaddy, Amazon, etc in past. These normally go to the secretary for CEO but still they are usually responsive and don't outright block people asking for support and needing help.

I'm sorry Don, but when you're company all the sudden has my information out and getting me spam calls through Christmas and new years, you're company has allowed their customer to be harassed and as I put it to them, I'm tired of being all the sudden harassed over my recent and past purchases. If you think I'm a difficult customer, then you too are probably lazy and don't want to fix your flaws.

Honestly as far as explaining goes, most of the answers here are great compared to Namesilo. They wrote me bashing me in the support message, telling me how I was wrong, then acknowledged they may still be overlooking my situation... like, really? Never have I asked for more support and been blocked before... something is definitely fishy going on with this company lately and it's not just the new payment processor requiring people to send in pictures of their ID's and cards.

has my information
Please read again what multiple people told you in this thread. They don't "leak your information". They have a communication channel they are obliged to have, and it leaks incoming spam to you. You are still private (tracking pixels in emails might be a bit of an issue).

You really beleive that Jeff Bezos, or his secretary, were personally looking into the issues you might have with amazon purchases?

Do you phone Bill Gates every time you get a Windows error? You must be best friends by now!
And even Jeff Bezos... I am impressed.

No but they have looked into it for others through contact. I had nothing for Jeff to help with personally.

And omg Don, for you and you only.. I already know all this stuff. I've been a 7 year customer.

For 7 years NEVER HAS THIS HAPPENED BEFORE, and all the sudden has recently just started.

I hope this clears things up for you. If you ever need a job, you could be support chat for Namesilo

If you keep asking for the CEO phone of a company, it may sound a bit stalker to the company.... maybe you have been blocked for that?

so if you ask for a manager in the restaurant, they're suppose to ban you now? That's a real thing?

I mean they offer support, when the support is lacking though, there's CEO's and other teams that are suppose to be working together to achieve customer satisfaction... not to harass them on Christmas and New Years.

People are telling you, every time you register a new domain, whatever is the Registrar, if you have set a private email, you are going to get spam emails the first days.
But you seem to don't understand it.

I understand that... but I'm telling you it hasn't happened in the past 7 years until the past 2 months, in the way you tell me has been like that forever.......... do you not understand? Is everyone still drunk and unable to think from New Years? Like really guys, read. I get all you guys have said, what I don't get is the same stuff I keep repeating, why it hasn't happened in 7 years until the last 2 months.
