SquadHelp - Marketplace

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I can confirm that the seller to seller messaging system is not working properly since the beginning

That’s how registered trademark work. If some one registered “monarch” as a word mark for cosmetics at USPTO, and another person submitted an application for “butterfly” for use in cosmetics, the application is likely rejected on the ground of “likely confusion”. The applicant may disagree with the examiner and appeal the decision. IMO, the application is very unlikely to be accepted. Then again, trademark can be subjective.

From domaining point of view, if “monarch” is a registered mark for cosmetics in US and other major economies, then a domain such as “butterfly-cosmetics(.)com” would not worth the effort for acquisition for resale.

You are confused on the subject and probably not a lawyer. I'd suggest not to add more confusion on the subject, unless you deem yourself an expert or somehow, professionally or educationally are qualified to advise on the subject.

Remember that in some parts of the world like in Hawaii it's just 1 hour into Wednesday...

👋 @GrantP

(not my domain)

Just a friendly note of detail 👉 the name in the logo doesn't match the domain 👇

Wouldn't want a buyer (was almost me in the wholesale marketplace) purchasing the domain based on the incorrect name in the logo.

FWIW, I messaged a link of the above to the SH chat plugin as well since it doesn't appear @GrantP is too active here. Though maybe I'm mistaken?

In my short time with SH, I've had several discussions with their chat plugin, and for the most part, I've been blown away (in a good way) by their support. Especially with regards to their response time, which is crazy good!

I had one minor incident when I was told my SH coin might not be returned (and their recommendation was I take extra care while submitting domains) when I immediately contacted them about a typo I mistakenly submitted that hadn't been reviewed yet.

It was just $1, but after getting used to a standard at a different marketplace of them returning it by default, I felt ripped off when support couldn't immediately guarantee a refund, and then, in part to SH apparently not accepting responsibility for not having a fail safe refund option, ensued one of my infamous maybe regrettable but productive grillings.

Support handled it like a champ; an utter champ I tell ya! It was obvious I didn't take their wording (or lack of fail safe) kindly as I proceeded to spew a bunch of feedback, to which the staff member addressed each concern in a greater technical ability than I expected. The experience was capped with a follow up message the following day confirming they followed through with expediting the SH Coin refund feature, for submissions that hadn't been reviewed yet, to completion.

December 5th, 2019:

Hi Xxxxxxxx,

Just wanted to share an update from our product team. We have added the ability to automatically refund coins if you withdraw a submission prior to it being reviewed. Please continue to share any other feedback so we can continue to improve our platform.

Thanks,
Xxxx

Though I haven't tested SquadHelp customer feedback from a buyers perspective, I have to imagine my domains are in good hands if their support addressing buyers is similarly reflective of the way they address sellers. E.g. thoroughly addressed and in a timely fashion.

The stats for Tuesday are updated....

Just checked....by this time the stats for Wednesday should be updated..

I think they are lagging behind 24hours...I think it continues the same way now onwards.

No harm in that...but some strange change...

Edit:
P.S.: just saw Wednesday stats also updated...so now on again on time...seems someone took a nap yesterday...hence the delay.

Thanks,
Ravi

Domain = R a n d o m S t o r y

What names do you prefer "not" to submit to Squad Help?

For some high quality brandable names that I have I am hesitated to submit them to squad help, I prefer to keep them at Afternic & Sedo. While for average quality brandables I submit always to SH.

what do you guys think?

How do you feel about SH's new feature: $4 to write a description and classify a premium name?

To me, it seems the marketplace is more interested in profiting off sellers than actually selling domains.

If a marketplace accepts a premium name, they should take some responsibility for it.

They should classify the name and write the description themselves. This is, in part, how they earn their commission. Commissions that are, not incidentally, the highest in the industry.

Competing marketplaces understand professionally listing domains are their responsibility. SH now charges $4 per name to accomplish this basic service, on top of the existing circus of points and coins.

Bad idea, in my view.

I like the idea, I was hoping they would offer this because I don't like writing descriptions, but $4 is too much.

For a limited time, they are now offering 50% discount when you purchase 200 or more coins. So it would make $2 per description. Also, there's always option to pay 500 points and get 50% discount when you buy coins.

I, personally, like writing my own descriptions :) So I don't think I'll be using this service.

So now you have to pay if you don’t want to write your descriptions? 🙄Them not writing them to begin with is ridiculous. Every other brandable marketplace writes descriptions. At SH, you list your own, you write your own. What exactly do they do for their exorbitant commissions besides provide an often crappy logo?

As I said 6 months ago, they are greedy control freaks who want to milk their sellers and nickel and dime them to death with the highest most convoluted fees in the industry. All that while having the lowest average pricing on domains and highest commish in the brandable space. They even want a piece of your reselling price.

You don’t need them- they need you. Can’t wait to see what they charge you guys for next.

I think the option to have descriptions written for you is intended to benefit sellers without strong English skills while providing a way Creatives can earn money. While the feature is in Beta the descriptions are being written by SH staff, but if you read the full explanation it mentions the possibility that Creatives may be able to apply to work on descriptions at a later date. I'm not saying anyone should or should not pay for the service; I just think the driving force behind the idea is discouragement among the Creatives. The site has grown so rapidly and it is so hard to earn money on a regular basis now.

Why would anyone name their brand "Lyft" when they should be wanting the correctly spelled "Lift"?
"Netflix" when they should be wanting the correctly spelled "NetFlicks"?
"Flickr" when they should be wanting the correctly spelled "Flicker"?
"Reddit" when they should be wanting the correctly spelled "ReadIt"?
"Fiverr" when they should be wanting the correctly spelled "Fiver"?

Should I continue? :) Misspelled words make stylish, modern and fun brand names.

Buyer has up to 10 days to make necessary validation on the name after it gets sold, and we can hold on transferring if they would like to check on the name first, such as audience testing or trademark validation.

Seriously ? They should consider removing this option @GrantP

I had this experience just recently. A buyer purchased my domain at SH.

upload_2019-12-18_23-23-55.png

Next I was instructed to do the following:

upload_2019-12-18_23-24-57.png

After almost a week, the buyer decided to cancel the purchase. The buyer was refunded.

upload_2019-12-18_23-28-48.png

A lot of time and effort wasted on the part of the seller. No compensation whatsoever.

Guys, give them a bit of slack - imagine the same situation but it was with PP or something...and your name was stolen as soon as the buyer opens a (false) complaint, for example.

In worst case you have a solid confirm that the name has interest and has a better chance of selling, that is positive.

When its $$ its gets frustrating - and fast - I always try to think of the same situation in other products / environments. Retail shaps take a beating on "return" costs. That's the best image that helps keeps things a little grounded - but, realistically no less frustrating.

Customers are finicky, and have the right to be, we have to go with their flow.
