This is a total catastrophe and failure for the World and humanity at large. There are some things that surpass national boundaries and borders like Human Rights and certain Environmental issues that affect the whole Globe which surely should be of concern to all of us. Whether it’s the Oceans and Rivers that have been polluted or whether it’s our air and soil that have been poisoned, it all has something to do with human activity like the Global Warming and the Melting of the Ice Caps and Glaciers which is going to put many coastal Cities and Communities under water soon. IMO

Everyone’s opinions are welcomed, but keep your comments constructive, professional, and on topic. Personal attacks and belittling of others are not tolerated.

The day that our planet needs help from a 16 year old girl is the day that I move to another planet.

That's fine, maybe you can find another Planet that is as nice as Earth, but you should not base your decision on Greta's age and gender, but rather on whether you agree or disagree with her.

But I hope you stay here and help save our Home Planet, even if you don't agree with Climate Change, but there are still so many other things that you can be of help with such as cleaning up all the pollution and contamination in the air, water, land, and our food.

I expect some people are going to have a meltdown, maybe some even in this thread.

..........................
Adolf Hitler was a Time person of the Year also.

The day that our planet needs help from a 16 year old girl is the day that I move to another planet.

I always find it funny this "other planet" option. Where exactly is that? Unless people like living in some bubble, some closed in container somewhere in space. There is nothing out there like Earth, at least in reasonable distance. Then, it'll just be another place humans manage to screw up.

So another UN Climate Conference came to an end yesterday,

I hope that everyone realizes that time is of the essence and that talking and giving speeches is not going to do this Planet of ours any good if it's not followed by taking some concrete and precise actions after everyone leaves the conference.

Very true,

Earth shines like a jewel when seen from afar, people don't realize how hostile Space is to Humans, its only through what could be called a miracle that we have a sanctuary to call Home in the empty, cold, and dangerous expanse of the Universe where any other Planet that could support life is going to be out of our reach for the foreseeable future.

Although we might be able to make Mars more habitable through terraforming in the future, but if we are able to find the will, cooperation, coordination, and technology that is needed to do that then why not use that will, cooperation, coordination, and technology to save Earth.

Just heard in the news that Greta has called for World leaders to be put "against the wall" if they fail to act on climate change (way to go Greta).

Now I know that she didn't mean that literally, but it would be logical to hold those who commit crimes against the Environment accountable the same way that people are held accountable for commiting crimes against Humanity.

Planet Earth is a living Entity and it has Rights too!

We need to start respecting everyone's Rights if we want to ascend to a higher level of existence.

AI is going to have rights when it evolves into a full fledged entity, the unborn have rights and should not be systematically executed, the minorities including the LGBTQ have rights and should not be subjected to discrimination and hate crimes, children have rights to grow up in a joyful and safe environment without being subjected to abuse or being used by grown ups for their misguided and evil purposes and agendas, Women have rights to be treated equally and with respect and not to be at the mercy of men, people at large have rights to live a peaceful, happy, healthy, and productive life without being subjected to War, torture, cruelty, abuse, killing and extermination just to mention a few examples and so this Planet has rights too that we need to acknowledge and respect.

Since people who commit crimes against humanity are executed, you are saying people who drive cars should be executed because they commit crimes against the environment?
Just who would you put "against the wall" and shoot?

She must be respected. There's a reason why our planet is known as Mother Earth. It's amazing how the carelessness we see daily, noise, pollutants, trash etc and it makes one wonder, would you treat your own mother this way?

We cannot look just to technology to solve our problems for us. It starts within. Earth already has all the answers, we're just not asking the right questions.

DNA I think his point was the more blatant offenders, ie dumping into oceans and rivers, factory smokestack belching, pipeline breaks. Or maybe it wasn't. I'm a driver, and seriously, you can put me out of my misery anytime you like. The roads suck nowadays.

According to a few articles I pulled up to check it out, that wasn't her meaning. It was about putting pressure on politicians to do their jobs and hold them accountable.

"We have to make sure that they cannot do that," she said. "We will make sure they, that we put them against the wall, and that they will have to do their job and to protect our futures."

In Swedish, the phrase "putting someone against the wall" means someone is forced to address difficult questions of a difficult situation."

Makes sense. How you would put someone against a wall and finish them, then expect them to do their jobs.....

Actually...what she said is that if people don't follow our extreme demands...we will put them against the wall and shoot them. Any country that uses the phrase "put them against the wall" knows that it means to execute the people who are put against the wall. Even people in Sweden know that.

Actually, it is you that doesn't "mean well."
Just who would you put "against the wall" and shoot.
You sound like some sort of 1939 Nazi to me.

The very fact that you are making this statement shows how you are going out of your way to put words in other people's mouth and to misrepresent the situation here.

No one said that people should be shot, just that they need to be held accountable if they wanted to continue damaging the Environment.

You like to be some drama queen and use Nazi a lot, somebody already gave you a reasonable explanation.

People who commit "crimes against humanity" are executed.
You want to do the same thing to people who don't live up to your extremist demands.
Those are your words.
And putting people "against the wall" is saying that they should be shot.

Again you are putting words in my mouth and misrepresenting the situation like you did a while back when you said:

I am not saying that you should stop believing that the world is flat.
I know that I can never convince you of that.

Now please quote where I said that the World was flat or that anyone should be shot. Holding people accountable for damaging the Environment doesn't mean that anyone is going to be shot.

You believing the "world was flat" was a joke obviously.
I was pointing out how unscientifically minded you are.
I never said that you said anyone should be shot.
I asked you who you would put against the wall and shoot
when you said that people who don't meet your environmental demands
would be charged with "crimes against humanity."
And you do sound like a 1939 Nazi to me.

So you are just making up personal jokes and accusations just because we hold different point of views on the Global Warming and how to deal with the problems that the Environment and Humanity are facing. That is not very professional of you.

So another UN Climate Conference came to an end yesterday,

I hope that everyone realizes that time is of the essence and that talking and giving speeches is not going to do this Planet of ours any good if it's not followed by taking some concrete and precise actions after everyone leaves the conference.
The COP25 negotiations in Madrid have been extended and ended today without mentionable results.

Just to remember: There have been over 25,000 representatives from 200 countries participating in those negotiations.
And while people still discuss if there is a climate change or not and if global warming is man made or not this conference failure sends out the wrong message. It could be misunderstood like This rising temperature thing is really not that bad but we had a good tax paid time in Spain.

I hear in the news that USA and Brazil have been the main blockers of an agreement as well as Australia, obviously still dazzled by the wildfires near Sydney. This also means that the overwhelming majority of other nations has been too weak to offer reasonable compromises or creative "deals". And it proves that the conference format of worldwide consensus has failed.

COP26 will be in Glasgow sometime toward the end of next year. This will give all the attendees a chance to do it all over again. If they were unable to realize any success in the first 25 conferences, why bother with number 26? It will just create more carbon emissions.

Thanks for the update, they usually take care of the official matters during the work days and do some extra events on the weekend, I couldn't find the final resolutions that were achieved for this conference as their website is experiencing some difficulties. But I understand that a lot of attention was given to deforestation and many UN agencies pledged to take more action towards stopping it from getting worse.

They have achieved some success in the past hence the fact that more and more people are paying attention to their Home Planet, but the incremental steps that they are taking now is not adequate enough to keep up with the acceleration that we are seeing with the Climate Change, so what worries me is that this Planet might go past the point of no return before anything substantial is done to try to fix the problems with the Environment.
