Domains for $40?
It is a one time purchase. There are no renewals and you own the blockchain domain.

Domains in blockchain?
Yes, apps are being developed in this space. The future is speculative, although the possibilities are many. Time will tell.

December 5th PST .crypto will go live on the blockchain! For the first 24 hours we will limit claiming .crypto domains to users who have an Early Access account. We are expecting a large amount of activity once .crypto is live on chain. Limiting the first 24 hours to Early Access accounts gives us the ability to monitor the early stages of the launch and control potential backlog before opening access to the general public. Early Access accounts will have the ability to start claiming their .crypto domains December 5th afternoon PST. We will contact you over email when your account has been upgraded to Early Access and you can claim your .crypto domains. Want to have your account upgraded to Early Access?

And it got delayed...

Quote: Hey Unstoppable Community, Out of abundance of caution we made the decision to push the .crypto launch to Wednesday December 11th. We know many of you are excited for the .crypto launch (so are we) but we had to make this decision for a few reasons: 1. We caught two last minute errors in our final round of testing. 2. Istanbul Hard Fork - The hard fork is scheduled for Block #9,069,000 which will likely occur on Friday or Saturday. How are these events correlated? By the time these errors are fixed - we would be very close to the block of the hard fork. There is inherent risk in launching any contract on-chain during a hard fork and a risk not worth taking. With this - we decided to delay the launch six days to December 11th. For more information please see - https://unstoppabledomains.com/t/pushing-the-crypto-launch-to-december-11th/352. Thanks for keeping with us and we will keep you updated on any other important information. You can prepare for the launch by setting up your wallet now: https://no_url_shorteners/unstoppabledomains/57301

Why .crypto? Why the delay? Or why are some domainers sooo freaking annoying?

Why .crypto?

we already know why domainers are so freaking annoying lol

I got one to simply play around and learn how to build a site in blockchain. I figured .crypto might have a better chance than some of the .whatevers.

Edit: in other words, I got it for fun. Besides a lifetime registration doesn't hurt, especially if you can get a decent one.

I have been following .Crypto since inception. There has been numerous delays. The news of another delay is of no surprise.

It might not be a surprise but should serve as a warning. Stay away when it’s obvious that shit isn’t together.

I have patience so overpromising is not my main concern. I will become concerned if they under deliver, which we haven't seen yet. There are alot of layers in web3.0 protocols, bumps in the road are inevitable.

It’s called testing.

The fact that they are giving release dates before knowing if their platform works speaks volumes.

I agree with Keith... partially. It's unproven technology with a good chance of failing.

Like I said, I am getting in to play around. Not looking for a huge sale... just to learn. DO NOT spend your grocery money and buy tons of domains.

I take it you won't be buying a .crypto anytime soon. Although, something tells me you will buy one in the future.😀

The future, as in my next life... but still, I’ll pass.

All good. We all have our different niches. I do like your thoughts regardless if I agree or disagree.

But why...?

If Google doesn’t index it, and Chrome can’t read the site, then the domain has only one (easily-replaceable) function

It’s kind of trying to sell a BoA bank account with 888888888 as account number.

I have 0 crypto coin, and I won’t bother myself with learning blockchain, or open a BoA account...

You know, those are the exact reasons why I want to test out .crypto. I have a tiny bit of crypto that I received from advertising. I don't care about Google... my sites suck anyway. I usually make personal sites. My living is not online.

Browsers can read them, but they require an add-on. You are right, Google can't index them. That is today.

But, what if browsers eventually integrate where you don't need an add-on? What if Google does eventually figure out how to index them? IF that does happen, it's a long time away... but, like I said... it's time for me to experiment and play around... figure out what is possible and what is not. I am not alone. There are lots of people who are like me and want to try new technologies. They like to push the limits and see what can be done that is not normal.

Top coin has been a disappointment since day 1, they should have sold their domain in 2017. They were asleep during the whole ride, and when things fell they woke up.

Its important to understand .crypto is a blockchain domain. Blockchain domains are intended for web3.0. It's the next evolution of the internet. Web3.0 is a ways out, but if you consider Moore's law in computer science, its possible we may see Web3.0 sooner than many think.

Blockchain domains are highly speculative and are not understood outside of those with some technical skills. Web3.0 developers are working on getting the layers of protocols to work, after that we will see the development of more user friendly interfaces. Then we see main stream adoption.

A friendly interface is one that does not expose the underlying technology. It needs to be a mobile app or voice assistant action that let people do the transaction easily and securely.

Think of Amazon and Facebook and any major platform. The identity people need is either an e-mail address or a single sign-on service like Google or Facebook. We have seen many technology advances and e-mail still reins supreme.

If you want wide adoption, you need to convince people why they need something.crypto rather than an e-mail address. If you can’t do that, another extension (that people have to pay for) is just a useless layer that people don’t care.
