Hello,
i see that Internet casino. net gets some attention on DC auction and trying understand Verisign strategy on dotnet domains. high renewal and high reg fees will kill dot net gtld? or I am wrong.
Do you register dotnets?

Will you move from expensive dot org to dot net?

Thanks for any opinion.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I only register domains in these areas for technical sites. All the sites I have are on .com. I think I should explain why not.

.net only for technical purposes, I think.

Agreed. .net gTLD is generally less attractive than .org to buyers, so it makes sense to hold on to org.

However in the network / internet services niches, .net is likely preferred as it better matches the purpose.

$15.28 .net price for registrars in 2023...
This means minimum $16 per domain for us.

Let go of all my .net years ago...glad I did. With the price increase(s) coming, it is clear I will never own one again.

Hi

trying to understand how excerpt above has anything to do with .net or .org pricing?

as those who are interested in that domain, obviously don't have such concerns.

and I think, you could draw from that, that those who are interested in certain domains, will still purchase them

those who use .org will continue to do so and same with current .net users

and of course those who think either extension is too costly, will refrain from buying into them.
which may result in less competition and more choices for those do

it is, what it will be

imo...

3L.net, cant beat em. :)

Agreed...a 2L or 3L (especially one that 'makes sense') would be a domain I would be interested in...I, in that case, would still buy a .net

I love .nets. I have owned several of them over the years. I do agree with @Makise, they should be in the network area. However, I feel strongly if a business can't find their name in the .com they should seek out a .net, then continue down the line of other gTLD names until they find it. The reason behind this thought is that the business or person can get the site up and moving as they wait for the desirable .com name. I think of an article that told about Telsa, getting teslamotors.com and then later purchasing tesla.com for a sum of $600,000 later on.
