information Top Topics: Fashion.com Domain Sells; ICBC.com Almost Sold for $10 Million...

NameSilo
According to a notice on the domain Fashion.com, it has been sold as of November 21st 2019. The domain name has made some headlines as the owners decided to put the domain up for auction, but it has been indicated that the auction will no longer take place now that a buyer has been found. The winning bidder and the amount paid will remain confidential.

Here are this week's Top Topics.

Would You like to Charge a Domain Inquiry Fee?

For domain investors with hundreds or thousands of desirable domain names, managing the constant stream of inquiries is a difficult task. One solution to this problem is to ask anyone inquiring about a domain name to pay a small fee in order to contact you.

This is the standard practice of companies such as Telepathy, who own around forty thousand domain names. If a “pay to contact” feature was introduced into popular services such as Efty, would you use it?

ICBC.com Almost Sold for $10 Million

It’s rare that we cover a domain name that was almost sold, but in these circumstances, the news coverage is justified. The four-letter domain ICBC.com is owned by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, but it was almost owned by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

Currently operating on ICBC.com.cn, the Chinese bank offered to pay $10 million for the domain name in 2017, but the deal was rejected by the provincial minister in British Columbia.

Which Landers Should I Use in 2020?

For many investors, plans and executable strategies are forming for 2020. However, it’s often useful to get input from other domain investors regarding certain parts of an investment strategy.

Here, an investor is asking for opinions on whether GoDaddy landing pages are the best option to instill trust in a buyer and create an effective sell-through rate, or are other marketplaces such as DAN.com or self-managed landing pages such as Efty far better?

My Thoughts as a Potential Buyer

Speaking of landing pages, here is a story of what not to put on your customized landing pages, from the perspective of a domain name buyer. The story is offered in full in this discussion, but the key point is that the landing page was overly complicated and ultimately lost the buyer’s attention and motivation to buy the name.

Something to definitely consider when creating a landing page is to ensure that the process of submitting an offer is as easy as possible.

Poll: What Price Would You Pay to Join the ICA?

The ICA (Internet Commerce Association) is a non-profit organization advocating for the rights of domain name owners. Influential investors such as Telepathy’s Nat Cohen and Digimedia’s Jay Chapman currently sit on the organization’s board.

Veteran domainer Rick Schwartz called for the ICA to respond after an ICANN proposal that could result in the entire suspension of an investor’s portfolio in certain circumstances. In reply, the ICA stated that more investors should join the Association. Currently, the fee is $600 per year for an individual membership. Would you be more inclined to join if the membership was cheaper?

Another great selection. Thanks @James Iles ! Indeed Fashion is a fantastic name.

With all of the attention on what has happened re ICANN and .org, the ideas being floated about losing rights if you lose just two cases may be getting overlooked and it shouldn't be.

The case of needing to fill out three pages and make an offer in order to get a price and then the response be not to give a price seems unjustifiable to me.

Thank you for each week giving us a thoughtful compilation of topics.

James, Thanks for updates "Insurance Corporation of British Columbia" possibly a political decision but IMO the wrong one "the news coverage" will kill any future negotiations should have been private.
Fashion com be good if LVMH was the buyer, sends the right message to corporate board rooms.
"Think" brand opportunities will come as WeChat east & west superstrate linguistics merge? Not mine but noted tech terms creeping into China centric generics "Cyber" "Blockchain" "247 - 24x7" e.g. Puke247
{Baidu: PuKe (2,990,000) - 扑克 (34,000,000) = Poker} Time is information we don't have : )

Money.com sold USD 20 million in October 2019.
Surprising that Money (dot) com is seemingly wasting the direct traffic "trust" of what was a quality financial resource. In a digital age the mass public require a brand to be seamless in the transition from fiat - digital Currency exchanges will facilitate that interface Money (dot) com is perfect brand ... beats China plc's DCEP
but not the Islamic TakafulExchange.com
