Well they are still deciding what will bring about a potential badge for Chrome users, nothing specific yet.

Why are we still using Chrome and giving Google all this power? This is why Google launched Chrome and other "free" products. To get mass adoption and then leverage them to increase traffic and session durations to their core services: search and ads. With high bandwidth Internet and upcoming 5G network, why does Google treat websites like they're on dialup? Not to say that sites shouldn't be optimized for fastest download but this will keep sites from innovating with rich interactive multimedia content. Google's own Youtube has slow speed according to their PageSpeed Insights.

Google already penalises you for slow speed.

If its going to give you a 'badge of shame' on top, then i doubt your then going to appear on any search results page that 99.99% users will see.

By that, if you get a badge of shame, you're most likely going see a huge drop in Google traffic (if you haven't already for slow speed).

Google won't be displaying page 1 results with 'badges of shame'.

I don't believe in any speed meter..I mean not 100% ... the users' perception is the real result

Speed is dependent on many factors.

If your website is slow because of a bad server, bad html, bad caching etc., then by all means, you might deserve that badge.

But if it is because of a high quality content with high resolution content, that would be plain dumb and idiotic. With 100+ Mb connection everywhere I use internet, I don't care if my favorite site with fun interesting media takes 0.5 seconds to load or 3 seconds.

While google will try to push you to use compressed lower quality images and move content to their amp pages effectively serving your content via google.

Now I am wondering, how will they be distinguishing between the two.

For example, will they punish cnn.com? That is a heavy page that takes seconds, not milliseconds. And if they don't, but do that to a smaller guy, then they are waiting for lawsuits.
