Spaceship Spaceship
Today is Halloween, and I thought it might be fun to have a look at Halloween domain names. As well as summarizing historical sales in Halloween-themed domain names, I survey what is currently for sale. I even find a few possibly interesting domain names still available at standard registration cost. Along the way, I stumbled upon an interesting Halloween domain name used for redirection by one of the technology giants.

Halloween Exact Word
With Dofo it is easy to find that the exact word Halloween is registered in 186 extensions, of which 62 are currently for sale. The word Halloween is for sale in .org and .info, as well as a host of other extensions, some of which seem a better fit than others.

Halloween Domain Sales
Next I consulted NameBio to see how many times the term Halloween has sold. It has been part of a domain name in 81 listed sales, with an average price of $1352. The top five sales are listed below.
 • CostumesForHalloween.com $16,500
 • HalloweenParties.com $6500
 • Halloween.pl $6223
 • Halloween.se $5832
 • Halloween.info $5655
There have been seven sales of the exact word Halloween with an average price of $4084. Surprisingly there are no recorded new extension sales in Halloween, even though several of the extensions such as .fun, .party and .shop seem well suited to use.

I also used a NameBio subscription to look at sales with prices of $100 and less that include the word Halloween. There were 91 sales, of which 84 were in .com and none were in new extensions.

Available Extensions
While Dofo can provide a list of available extensions in the word Halloween, 520 at time of writing, many of these are either premium or in country extensions with only regional relevance.

A year ago on NameTalent I published a piece on Halloween domain names. In that article I listed extensions available at hand registration cost, along with a playful look at how each might be used. Since that time, several of the suggested domain names have been registered, but many are still available.

Some of the more interesting ones are Halloween.coach, Halloween.tours and Halloween.dating. You could even set up your own Halloween training and research program at Halloween.institute! See the link above for other possibilities.

Of course there are other extensions that fit rather well with the Halloween theme, such as .monster. Probably the domain name that first comes to mind would be Halloween.monster, and I was surprised to discover that it is owned by Amazon and redirects to the Halloween costume part of their site. If Google ever put the .boo extension into general use, it would have fun domain name possibilities.

Major Extension Halloween Sites

Halloween.com goes to a commercial site which bills itself as The One Source for All Things Halloween. The .com domain name was created in 1994 and is registered until 2029, so clearly the owner has long term plans with the site. He also owns Halloween.biz that redirects to the .com.

Halloween.net is used to redirect to the German-based mask site MaskWorld.com. Both Halloween.org and Halloween.info are currently for sale.

Halloween History
History.com has great information on the history of Halloween which started from the ancient Celtic festival Samhain.

The more modern traditions come after Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as All Saints Day. The night before that became All Hallows Eve which transformed into Halloween.

NamePros Halloween Content
Just as I was finishing this article, I discovered Raymond Hackney had just published an article on three developed Halloween sites. A couple of years ago @James Iles wrote an interesting article on the History of Halloween that includes details about the owner of Halloween.com, Internet pioneer Christian Riley. This link shows all content with the tag Halloween on the NamePros site and it provides interesting reading.

What Do You Think?
Please feel free to share domain names related to Halloween in the replies section. Also, I would be interested in having your input on the following.
 • Have you ever sold a domain name related to Halloween?
 • Do you see value in holding event-specific domain names in general?
 • What would be your favourite Halloween-themed domain names, whether you hold them or not?
 • Have you ever given out domain names as Halloween treat? :xf.grin:
 • If you could have only a single Halloween related domain name outside the legacy three (.com, .net, .org) extensions, and also not in .info or a country code, what other extension do you think would be most valuable?
 • Could you ever see a business, other than one in costumes or party supplies or planning, branding around Halloween? Or do you know of any who have branded around the word?
So I hope your night is not too scary, and that you have some Halloween fun. I started mine with a little domain sale (no sorry I won’t be releasing details - was to another domainer), so had a little treat already, and it is still relatively early on Halloween day here!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Bob - It is timely of you to post this. I imagine that most people are unaware of the Druidic origins of Halloween as a Festival of the Dead. It is occult. All that said, still a good time to meet the neighbors and encourage kids to do good in school, as they fill their treat bags.

Hi @equity78 - I discovered your article just as I was publishing. Thanks for giving the link, but if you look in the NamePros Halloween Content section you will see I already mention it and have a link to your article (as well as the one @James Iles wrote a couple of years ago). Thanks for your interesting article, both today and every day! You are a writing machine! (in a good way!)

Indeed. My grandchildren told me yesterday that they were so excited about today! Look forward to seeing them in their costumes! Hope you and yours have a great Halloween.

All Saints Day is November 1st, and Halloween is actually allhallowseve while the next day is allhallowsday. They just turned the name around from being an eve of the next day. Like Christmas. And then there is Thanksgiving in the middle with a turkey. lol

On a related note, I sold JackOLantern.com last year and the buyer redirects it to his jackolantern festival website. My favorite holiday B-)

I guess interest in Halloween is, appropriately :xf.wink:, waning. Thanks to everyone who posted in the replies, liked/thanked or simply read the article.

Perhaps I will provide my personal answers to some of the questions I posed.
What would be your favourite Halloween-themed domain names, whether you hold them or not?
I like both Halloween.party and Halloween.fun a lot (no idea who holds them), and also see possibilities for Halloween.org and Halloween.net, the latter some kind of global sharing around Halloween events and information. So if you own one of those, I am envious!

I actually until a few weeks ago had never held a Halloween domain, but then I picked up Halloween.today. I guess it mainly is useful one day a year :xf.grin:! That is my only one, unless you count maybe one of my .monster names.

Could you ever see a business, other than one in costumes or party supplies or planning, branding around Halloween? Or do you know of any who have branded around the word?
I could not, but things have been branded around many things. I would not have branded around a cockroach but a very successful company is!

Have you ever given out domain names as Halloween treat? :xf.grin:
I suggested it, but more sensible ideas prevailed so we gave out chocolate bars. Maybe they should have NamesCon on Halloween and domainers go stop to stop getting free domains? :-P

Thanks again everyone,

Bob

Thanks for the share @Bob Hawkes. My children loves Food Costumes for Halloween. When I saw FoodCostumes.com for sale, my attention was quickly drawn to it.
