Well it looks like Examiner.com got renewed, the auction was over $131,000 and earlier today the name got renewed. While typing in Examiner.com I get a security warning. Whois updated Registrant Name: Domain Manager Registrant Organization: Axs Digital Media Group, LLC Registrant Address: Co, US Creation Date: September 13, 1994 Update Date: October 30, 2019 […]

@bmugford summed it up perfectly

Some thoughts on this -

1.) The change certainly doesn't seem all that beneficial to registrants in my view. While it might be rare domains are redeemed after day 30, it does happen and sometimes for very valid reasons like illness.

2.) This is a massive change to registrant's rights to only give (3) weeks notice, especially if it has was being worked on for a year as Paul said above.

3.) This change will obviously stop the free appraisal game where an owner will let the domain expire then transfer it out after it ends. It will also stop after the auction bidder circumvention.

4.) If the auction schedule is not being changed, it means it will still go to auction on day 26. That gives the registrant 4-5 days after it goes to auction where they can still renew it.

5.) For a multi-billion dollar company with massive resources, I am not sure why GoDaddy can't figure out the timing when it comes to auctions. Other venues like NameJet that deal in expired domains when the auction starts it can no longer be redeemed. If the redemption period is 30 days, why not start the auction after that period?

No Keith, the domain was not expired past 30 days, any name not 30 days expired can be renewed. The auction starts day 26
I get that. It is my understanding though that once an expired domain receives a bid it is not renewable.
So good to know I can contact registrants of expired domains to buy straight up!

No that was never the rule, because 1 bid can happen day 26, their tos says you have til day 30.

Keith people are contacting these people every day, I have heard of people hiring interns or assistants to make calls. Any good name at GoDaddy expiring is getting a million calls.

Plus there are some and a few were members here, who contact everyone not looking to make money, but as one told me many years ago, "I just don't want them to rip off these business owners that built something for pennies on the dollar"

Cool, so I have 4 days beyond expiry to track down owners and make offers. This is fantastic news!

The best part is that godaddy can’t accuse me of circumventing an auction because it’s not legally binding for the first stint!!

Little correction.

Auction start date is approximately 24th day..

You may have 6 days approximately after auction start to look for owner.

Thanks

Vomit.com expired on October 6th.

Its confusing sometimes. 24th to 26th day. Hard to understand sometimes.

Thanks

You got a lot of company.
I built my portfolio on this model, well before people caught on. Then godaddy tried to say I was circumventing the auction process. Now that it’s clear in the rule book, I’ll go after newly expired domains all day.

Yeah you are right, they can't even get that right. Because Tik.net expired 9/26 started 10/21 others work out to 24 days and others 26.

Oh sure, I knew guys who had teams a decade ago, GoDaddy will still ban if they find out and reading the forum might not be a help because they will be looking out for people.

If a domain can be renewed at any point, it’s not the property of godaddy. I’d challenge their system in court any day if they tried to manipulate my account.

It would be interesting to challenge I think someone could win but have not looked at it completely. Would the juice be worth squeeze if it wasn't a six figure domain?

I remember when DU went after you in the L7 thread, did you get your account back?

Yes, my auction standings are good. They were 100% wrong in that case btw. They accused me of circumventing an auction that I did not bid in. Go figure...

Oh that's good, and yes you do have to wonder what do they think they are standing on? The domain doesn't belong to them, and let's be honest someone could not be a customer and do this all the time, they have no means against anyone like that.

No it's not and Paul Nicks even said it last night on Twitter. He said it could even be renewed after 30 days if extenuating circumstances.

But did he explain what the extenuating circumstances are? I'm sure they wouldn't apply to me :(

Probably someone contacted the owners/ admins, offered fraction of the auction amount for renewal and transfer.

Yes Stub

Now Paul replied

Godaddy steals domains, this domain included! I'm glad to see the original owners removed their property from the thieving hands of Godaddy.

This reply should be posted everywhere in this forum.

Jane Both's daughter has a different story on your policies

I am Jane Pantalone’s daughter. The loss of my Mother was a huge loss to the world. She helped so many people throughout her life, and as stated, was very ahead of her time. The smartest woman I’ll ever know. I’m so very lucky to call her Mom.

Things are not as they seem.. and it’s time I got this off my chest and reveal the truth of how GoDaddy ‘handled’ this unfortunate situation.

She did, in fact, have a plan in place in the event of her death. Her executor, the Estate Administrator, (another family member, not my brother) contacted GoDaddy with the necessary info that she left him. He completed the steps and procedures, and supplied all documents that were required and requested by GoDaddy to gain access and transfer ownership.

GoDaddy denied him access.

DAYS later, they auctioned off her domains and made over $150,000.

GoDaddy rep, Paul Nicks (VP & GM), then proceeded to contact my brother (via NamePros) informing him that they’d be making a $16,000 donation to the NYPD in her honor (an effort close to her heart, as she set up a 9/11 relief fund for the disaster victims and raised over $1 million in donations and provisions).

If that wasn’t a blatant attempt at pacification for their wrong doing, I do not know what is.
In the thread on NamePros (https://www.namepros.com/threads/so...op-and-theyre-selling-like-hot-cakes.1060298/), Paul claims to have not known of my mother’s death (could be true for him personally, but not GoDaddy) and that they unsuccessfully attempted reaching out to us. This is FALSE. Her executor was in contact with and followed GoDaddy’s procedures to transfer the account. He was DENIED access after completing all requirements.

I’m not upset at the potential loss of any money. My Mom isn’t here to enjoy it herself so it doesn’t matter.
What upsets and disgusts, me is that my mother worked so hard, came SO far, was so intelligent, and GoDaddy blatantly, greedily, and unlawfully reaped the rewards of her hard work.

I’ve waited a long time to write this, and no one may even care, but I had to get it off my chest.

Thank you.

Except in the case of Jane Pantalone’s daughter. GoDaddy just make these things up as they go along. Outrageous. What chance do we have? Zero to none is my guess.

It took over a month to resolve them closing my account without reason, or because I followed the instructions of my account manager. It was touch and go. I had to appeal their decision 4 times, before it went my way. Luckily none of my 360 domains were close to expiring. I don't think I would have been given any leeway in this situation.

I think the only way to handle these situations would be to appeal to @Paul Nicks, personally. At least then he cannot complain that he didn't know.

Did someone from GD respond about JP's daughter's allegations that they went through the whole process as required and still were denied the access to the account? And why she just did not give them password to the account and the phone associated with the account. That is all you need for true access, right?

The son actually had access to the account, and was able to renew some of the domains, but the ones that had gone to auction he could not recover as he stated on namepros. Ironically enough they live in Phoenix also.

I was told once a domain has a bid it can’t be recovered by the original owner.

I learned find first hand as I purchased a name, and forgot to set auto renew, it went in auction, had a bid, so I had to outbid Huge Domains a few hundred bucks to win it back, instead of paying $90 redemption fee.

However this corporation which is most likely an it guy forgot, or their cc expired was able to rescue it?

Because godaddy purposefully "disappears" them from your account and support is trained to deny you the right to renew them. It's a sham and a risk to work with Gocrappy.
