This is a total catastrophe and failure for the World and humanity at large. There are some things that surpass national boundaries and borders like Human Rights and certain Environmental issues that affect the whole Globe which surely should be of concern to all of us. Whether it’s the Oceans and Rivers that have been polluted or whether it’s our air and soil that have been poisoned, it all has something to do with human activity like the Global Warming and the Melting of the Ice Caps and Glaciers which is going to put many coastal Cities and Communities under water soon. IMO

Everyone’s opinions are welcomed, but keep your comments constructive, professional, and on topic. Personal attacks and belittling of others are not tolerated.

but naming and shaming those who do Care about the Environment but perhaps in different ways than you do is not okay. IMO

PS: Good old Al should stop making so much money off of the Arabs and should get back in the game to help with the Environment. (it doesn't hurt if he loses a few pounds too to lower his carbon footprint).
GRETA THUNBERG JUST SUED 5 COUNTRIES DESTROYING THE PLANET
Greta Thunberg has filed a human rights lawsuit against five countries failing to combat climate change following the Climate Action Summit.

The countries named are Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, and Turkey.

Something fishy here... why didn't she sue the USA which she'd previously said was the biggest polluter of all time?

How about China... the biggest polluter of the present time, or India at #2 etc. etc.

There are lots of big interests and organizations behind Greta. She is not doing this alone, just like Al Gore some years ago...

Besides, when Greta came out with her angry "How dare you" speech, it had the opposite effect on me. Different strokes for different folks

As far as naming and shaming all those countries which perhaps are failing in their obligations and responsibilities towards Humanity and this Planet then that might be okay, but naming and shaming those who do Care about the Environment but perhaps in different ways than you do is not okay. IMO

You guys haven't called him on this yet:

Gilsan, from Portugal:

"Almost 60% of the general Portuguese population is obese or pre-obese. Women, elderly and less educated individuals present the highest obesity prevalence. Abdominal obesity, in particular, seems to be a relevant public health problem among the elderly men."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5946450/

Maybe, somebody wants to quote that for Gilsan. BTW this is why he blocked me. He hates when I point out reality to him. This is what I was getting at, handle your own business first. Maybe Gilsan can get his countrymen to stop eating so much.

For some reason you didn't post a link, so I will. This is a month old:

"On Monday, Greta Thunberg and 15 other young people filed a potentially world-changing climate complaint.............

They announced that they’re suing five of the world’s major carbon polluters on the grounds that the countries are violating their rights as children. If the suit is successful, the United Nations would classify the climate crisis as a children’s rights crisis. And more importantly, it would compel Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, and Turkeyβ€”the five countries named in the suitβ€”to work with other nations to forge binding emissions’ reduction targets, a sharp change..........

The suit, filed on behalf of the youth by the international law firm Hausfeld, contends that world governments are violating children’s rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child....

I and everyone else can read the comments here and decide for ourselves as to what conclusions we want to arrive at. I don't want the focus of this thread to be on just one person in this forum as there are more important things that can use everyone's attention. All I can say is that everyone has made some good points in this thread including you and him that has helped widen our views and understandings of the situation, but you know very well that people who are on either side are going to express some extreme and self serving point of views that they are not going to change so easily and if they are criticized too much they will get even more one sided and extreme. I myself try to filter all the political agendas and attacks in people's comments and try to just pay attention to the parts of their arguments that are based on facts and logic. You are welcomed to rebuttal any comments made by him that you find not to be factual or to be one sided (as you have done so far) not to convince him, but to convince everyone else who is following this thread. Hearing all sides will eventually help the truth to come out about who really cares about the Environment. I have learned over the years that everyone can be right on somethings and be wrong on other things and everyone can be the good guy when considering one issue and be the bad guy in another issue, hence the idea of having free speech and open debate to find the truth between all the confusion. IMO

Gilsan can't read them because he has me on block. When he posts ridiculous stuff, he should be called on it. Or you'll wind up with a thread drowning in memes in no time. If you've ever read the Political thread, you've see his 25 meme posts in a row. That's coming. Your thread, it's give an inch take a mile type stuff. It'll become a less serious thread real quickly.
It has begun!

Greenlighted by All World Powers the Ethnic and Racial (and Genetic) Cleansing of the Peasants is now well underway in certain regions, they all talk about stopping it on TV, but behind the scenes the Cleansing is Precisely what the World's Elite have wanted to see happen all along. IMO

I wonder who's next, and I wonder what is going to happen to saving the Environment now as the World gets engulfed more and more in man made animosities and hostilities.

What does that even mean? Did something specific stir that post? Cleansing of peasants? Can you post links for stuff like this so people know what you're talking about.

He is allowed to express his opinion as long as he follows the thread and forum rules and as long as he doesn't go overboard to overwhelm this thread like he has done with the political thread. If you can prove him wrong by posting some facts then his memes will have the opposite effect of what he had intended for them to do. IMO

PS: I am not going to allow him or anyone else to take this thread off track.

Well I was perplexed by all the news about what was happening to the Kurds and others in that region. I was hoping that things would settle down after Syria and Yemen, but looks like the killings are going to continue, soon this can turn in to a major War that is going to distract the World from the Environmental problems again. Saving the Environment and saving Humanity go hand in hand as they are both part of the big picture when it comes to saving the World.

The inhumane policies of Ethnic, Racial, Genetic, Religious, and Gender Cleansing that we see being implemented with impunity by all these different Countries and groups are the end result and climax of all the Inequality, Racism, Discrimination, Hate, Cruelty, Animosity, Hostility, Abuse, and Torture that have been going on all along all over the World. So I guess we can’t act that surprised about what we see happening to innocent and helpless people as they are being bombarded out of existence.

So I wonder who is going to be next, whether it’s another racial, ethnic or religious group or minority that is going to be forced to flee their homes out of fear for their lives in a new conflict or whether it’s the LGBTQ community that is going to be demonized by those who tend to ignore the fact that humanity as a whole must conquer its desire for lust and replace it with love and affection regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and preferences, or whether it’s all those who are going to vanquish in silence due to hunger, disease, addiction, or homelessness in some other corner of the World . The Global Machine that is serving the interests and agendas of the Elite and the Ruling Class of the World is as dangerous to the future of Humanity and this Planet as is Global Warming.

Anyone who cares about saving the Environment should also care about freeing Humanity form all these abuses and killings (including the unborn). The younger generations that have now become so aware about the dangers to the Environment and who are actively taking on the Elite and the ignorant in order to change the mindsets, lifestyles, and habits that have brought this Planet to the brink of destruction should also challenge the politics and policies of Inequality, Suppression, Oppression, Racism, Abuse, Torture, Death and Destruction that are taking Humanity towards extinction. And equally as important they should work towards conquering the bad human characteristics of Greed, Jealousy, Hate, Delinquency, Addiction, Discrimination, Cruelty, Lust, and Dishonesty that are preventing Humanity from ascending to a higher level.

Unfortunately there are some who want to keep the status quo because it serves their interests and agendas and not only that they are not willing to change their existing mindsets, lifestyles and habits in order to become more aligned with what is right for the future of Humanity and this Planet, but they are going out of their way to distort the voice of logic and compassion and to put all environmental and human rights activist under a bad light. But sooner or later the truth will cut through all their propaganda and lies and expose them for what they are.

Regardless of what their propaganda machine wants to brainwash us to believe, remember that saving Humanity and saving the Environment must go hand in hand if we want to save our home Planet for the future generations, it’s not only the pollutants in the Environment that we have to worry about but we also have to be careful about those who want to pollute our minds through their propaganda and advertisements and through all the endless efforts by their pundits and lobbyists who want to silence the voice of logic and compassion, the same as what they did to another activist who wanted to save Humanity and this Planet almost 2000 years ago.

THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE... Why do some American Food companies sell healthier options to other countries but keep the unhealthier options for their own people?...

These differences between US and UK ingredients are disturbing...
While some may not realize, it is also no secret that ingredients used in American food products are significantly worse than ingredients found in any other country.

Companies like Kraft-Heinz, Kellogg’s, PepsiCo, and Quaker all sell safer products overseas, while injecting food in America with gross ingredients, packing them full with high fructose corn syrup and chemicals. These differences are found in all types of foods β€” chips, cereal, candy and even oatmeal. Oatmeal! The one thing that is supposed to be healthy. It is inescapable.

To break it down, Food Babe took it upon themselves to list six American products whose ingredients look completely different in other countries.

Here's David Attenborough's reply to a five-year-old asking what he can do to save the planet:
β€œYou can do more and more and more the longer you live, but the best motto to think about is not waste things,” Attenborough replied. β€œDon’t waste electricity, don’t waste paper, don’t waste food. Live the way you want to live but just don’t waste. Look after the natural world, and the animals in it, and the plants in it too. This is their planet as well as ours. Don’t waste them.”
I especially like his comment that the planet belongs to plants and animals as well as to humans.

Whenever I think of the Environment I always assume that it includes all animals and plants (all lifeforms).

I agree that preventing waste is a key factor in saving the Environment, the question is who is causing and producing the most waste as far as which Countries, companies, trades, communities, regions, and cultures are contributing the most to all the waste that we see around us and how can we educate people not to waste so much.

As I have suggested before perhaps we can build homes, cars, and devices that can last through several generations with some upgrades and superficial remodeling so that way we won't have to add so much to the landfills. Another area that we can prevent waste is the food Industry and plastic and other materials that are used in delivery and marketing of food products just to mention a few.

Creating awareness and educating people to align their mindsets, lifestyles, and habits to what is now required for saving the Planet is the key.

Very true -- creating awareness and educating people will be vital. Also, the U.S. media has been slow to adequately cover the climate crisis, although they are finally starting to do so.

I have a feeling that there is going to be a major shift in people's attitude towards the Environment within the next six months.

One thing that the new generations have to be aware of is that most grown ups whom they are counting on for bringing the necessary changes to save their future are beholding to the special interest and as such are more obligated to protecting the Elites and the status quo than fighting for the average people. That's why it's is so difficult to bring about any meaningful changes towards saving our home Planet.

The first step in saving Humanity and the Environment is to put the spotlight on those whom we have elected or appointed to represent us, but that now have sold us out and joined the Elites themselves. At one time they were average people like us who cared about doing something good for Humanity and the Environment, but now they live in the lap of luxury and comfort and are only interested in doing what's good for themselves.

The second step is to identify all the pundits, lobbyists, and those who use propaganda, lies, and deception in order to control our thoughts and actions for their own advantage and who are doing their best to turn us against one another in order to weaken the movement that is taking shape towards changing the status quo and saving Humanity and our home Planet.

Of course this all has to be done at the same time as we are creating awareness and educating people to align their mindsets, lifestyles, and habits to what is now required for solving both our Social issues and our Environmental problems. And meanwhile we should also help humanity to overcome it's bad characteristics so that it can ascend to a higher level as a whole and become a force for good that is going to be able to create the AI lifeforms that are on the side of what is considered to be the Universal good so that we all can live and coexist happily ever after by helping and caring for one another in our heavenly Planet. The other alternative unfortunately is going to be more and more death and destruction at the hands of the Elite and the ignorant who are going to use their bad AIs to enslave and eradicate us all.

What the Elites have been doing as far as oppressing, suppressing, enslaving, and eliminating the rest of us is nothing new, they have been brainwashing us all along through movies, TV shows, books, and advertisements that constantly and continuously have been subjecting us to violent and immoral behavior in order to kill any sense of empathy and morality that we might have as a society so that the pain and agony of all those who have been struggling through life at their hands could be ignored easier. The Elites have been using psychopaths and those who lack empathy as their guard dogs and enforces all along to protect their interests and agendas and to keep a tight control over the rest of us, the only difference is that in the future they will use their bad AIs to do all that much more efficiently.

I have always been baffled by how some people choose to worship the Elites who couldn’t care less about what happens to anyone else but themselves. Some people have been bowing to the rich, the famous, and the powerful all their lives without realizing that those are the same people who have been denying them the basics of life while they themselves have been living in the lap of luxury and comfort. Even worse than the idol worshipers are the pundits who have been betraying the rest of the people for the little scraps that the Elites throw their way. Saving the Humanity and our home Planet requires that we break away from this bondage and control that the Elites have been exerting on us with the help of their pundits and those who have chosen to worship them.

Trying to save Humanity and our home Planet without changing the status quo is not going to get us the future that we are dreaming about. We first have to change the mindsets, lifestyles, and habits across all classes so that we as human beings along with all other lifeforms and entities can coexist together based on the Universal rights and values that are supported by logic and compassion .

We have to connect all the dots to be able to see the big picture, the clues are right in front of our eyes, but first we have to free ourselves from all the restraints that have been put on us by the Elites who want to keep us in the dark so that we can continue serving them on hands and knees while they deny us the very basics of life and while they destroy our Planet by their endless greed and their perverted need for collecting more and more wealth and material things. They break up our Unions, assassinate our heroes who have been fighting for our rights, and put countless people in jail while they themselves kill, steal, and cheat with impunity. They use their enforcers and pundits to destroy the life and reputation of anyone who rises up to question the status quo and they use their propaganda machine to turn us against one another so that we end up attacking the very people who have sacrificed their lives to help us. We should no longer let the Elites control our destiny and the destiny of our home Planet, and we should no longer let them kill our brothers and sisters in their man made wars while they themselves sip on champagne and watch the conflicts from the safety of their multi million dollar mansions. It’s our right to have a safe and thriving Environment and it’s our right to have adequate and timely food, shelter, education, and healthcare, but The Elites want it all for themselves and somehow have brainwashed us to be content and obedient while they themselves live in the lap of luxury and comfort. Soon they are going to replace everyone’s jobs with robots in order to increase their profits with no second thoughts about all the people who are going to lose their homes and health benefits as the result of their actions. It’s time to wake up and take control of our future and the future of our home Planet.

Back to your original post @oldtimer - more unsettling news about the Amazon:
https://www.theguardian.com/environ...ainforest-close-to-irreversible-tipping-point

"Soaring deforestation coupled with the destructive policies of Brazil’s far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, could push the Amazon rainforest dangerously to an irreversible β€œtipping point” within two years, a prominent economist has said.
After this point the rainforest would stop producing enough rain to sustain itself and start slowly degrading into a drier savannah, releasing billions of tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, which would exacerbate global heating and disrupt weather across South America."

Back to your original post @oldtimer - more unsettling news about the Amazon

Amazon rainforest is a World treasure, it's a shame if we ever lose it.

Greed, political agendas, lack of education, and pure negligence, ignorance, incompetence, and malice are all factors that are contributing to more and more damage to the Environment and are causing so much unnecessary loss of life and property all around the World.

The ongoing fires in California are also no exception, with the right planning and management a lot of it could have been prevented.

People need to organize and mobilize to do whatever it takes to stop these catastrophes. Imagine if you wanted people in the twenty first Century to build several Pyramids by bare hands and primitive tools just like the Egyptians did three thousand years ago, it's going to take that kind of will and motivation to tackle some of the Environmental problems that we are facing now. Although unlike the ancient times we can't wait to be motivated by a ruler, we now have to motivate ourselves through logic and compassion and the Universal rights and values that we all believe in in order to do the right thing both as far as solving our social issues and saving our Planet are concerned.

-----

PS: Just heard that the leader of ISIS was captured by the US Special Forces, that is a big win for all Humanity considering all the atrocities that have been committed by him against so many different people.

Now lets send the Special Forces to also capture all those who have been committing crimes against the Environment. And while we are at it lets also capture all those other people who have been committing atrocities and crimes against Humanity like the ones who have been killing millions of the unborn for the past fifty years or those who have blood on their hands by depriving millions of people from having adequate and timely food, shelter, and healthcare. And lets also go after those who profit from promoting addiction, delinquency, and immoral behavior among younger generations and those who benefit from promoting hate, torture, and war, and lets not forget about the CEOs of the companies that knowingly and intentionally bring harm to people and the Environment by their products and their actions. And last but not least lets send the special forces to capture all those politicians who live in their multi million dollar mansions that they have gotten by betraying the people’s trust.

Heard on news, first time California has issued a Reg Flag Warning or actually an EXTREME Red Flag Warning

"I've never seen this language used before either. @NWSLosAngeles: is this the first issuance of an "Extreme Red Flag Warning?" This sounds similar to the upgraded "Emergency" version of Tornado and Flash Flood Warnings by @NWS during particularly dangerous events. #CAwx #CAfire https://twitter.com/bhensonweather/status/1189244207338270722 …"

unprecedented extreme red flag warning issued for Los Angeles area

Unfortunately there is not much more that could be done now in addition to what the firefighters are doing other than just pray for rain.

I don't believe that they should have waited till a disaster was upon people before they issued these warnings, The "Red Flag Warnings" should have been issued 10 or 15 years ago in order to do California any good today.

In a similar situation the "Red Flag Warnings" should be issued Today for the low lying areas that are going to go under water 10 or 15 years from now.

This is tragic and scary -- so many lives torn apart and so much uncertainty now for California residents.
You make a good point @oldtimer -- the red flag warnings are long overdue.

Bill McKibben ponders the question "Is California now too dangerous to live in?". He also points out that this phenomenon should be no surprise and has been in the works for many years:

"Truth be told, that California began to vanish fairly quickly, as orange groves turned into airplane factories and then tech meccas. The great voices of California in recent years – writers such as Mike Davis and Rebecca Solnit – chronicle the demise of much that was once idyllic in a wave of money, consumption, nimbyism, tax dodging, and corporate greed.

Thunberg turns down green award over Nordic 'bragging'
For a 16-year-old, she has an amazing capacity to cut through the B.S.

"While thanking the council for the 'huge honour', she said the 'climate movement does not need any more awards'." She noted that Sweden is living "as if it had about four planets."
