We previously announced a search for a great brand name for an online service for sourcing domain certificates. The thesis is that there will eventually be innovative alternatives to the likes of LetsEncrypt that empower more people to secure their sites with robust technology. That search was described here:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/ssl-root-certificate-authority-ca-brand-name.1158491/

In the meantime, we have had some great domain candidate submissions. In order to select a winning name, we welcome your input on name selection through poll and discussion as we make plans to co-create another tool that helps make the pie bigger.

As for the list of brand prospects, we used every slot allowed in the poll software. There were many good ones left out unfortunately, but it is still a long list from some very thoughtful submitters who I look forward to highlighting among the top contenders to the extent they choose to be identified!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
i think the reason why Rob chose to message me versus publicly post a bid is because the purchase price has a stipulation that I have to provide "X" amount of hours of consultation for Epik too. it's not just the sale of the domain.

Well in a way that makes the whole thing even worse it means that you sold it somehow not just outside of the auction but with terms that you couldn’t offer to the general public (to the NP members who could bid on your open auction). Anyway it’s not an egregious offense but two seasoned NP members like yourselves should have known better.

Thanks everyone - truly. I apologize for creating such an entangled web of convolution. If I had known then, what I know now (from you guys), believe me, things would be very different.

Fail to win or succcess as a winner on poll / contest ? Its not really matter as long as we play contest based term and condition, its also included on attitude , moral ethics, and spirit to be the best

At face value: Ethics, terms & conditions, integrity, etc. -- all very much a grey area and in question here.

NPs is not a proper aftermarket venue, and that's why people aren't scared to bend rules or be sketchy. It's the wild wild west without proper moderation and guidance.

No, we can't have that. And I don't see why we should allow bending the rules now. It starts with this, and then what? People will start closing their auctions for other reasons?

I think we need some players to man up and make things right.

The last bid by @Hasan.khan was $32. There is absolutely nothing in the auction that invalidated it. That bid still stands.

This auction:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/sold.1158877/page-2

was closed prematurely. It does not have a SOLD in the thread by a member other than the OP, nor is there an updated BIN price placed in the thread by the OP, giving all current bidders and new bidders an equal opportunity.

Don't you think it's ironic to be building a trust brand on a footing of doubt?

Guys.. what gives? If there are no consequences, there is no integrity, and if we lose that it does become the wild west as Ms.Muse pointed out. I'd rather see it made right, rather than consequences. I think there's still an opportunity to do that.

In an attempt to make things right and try to maintain order and integrity, I have just personally PM'd each person who participated in my auction and offered them a free Epik domain.

Also, to those that did not win in this contest, I did make a "Request" for "encrypt", "cert", etc. related domains (same ones that were submitted) and will be purchasing one for $100. So yes, I am taking corrective measures, not just brushing this aside.

looks like an infraction was issued if you look at the thread. Now that his name says Epik staff today I doubt he will be able to enter anymore contests. Maybe Rob can clarify if Epik staff are allowed to sell him names here.

I can confirm that I will not be entering in anymore contests. I also wanted to update everyone that I have reached out to the bidders in the "infraction" auction and I have made several .com purchases for the bidders.

Thanks. It's clear you had no malicious intent. It was an honest mistake and you are doing well by making reparations. Without disregarding auction integrity, at the end of the day the outcome would be no different. Best of luck to you!

That is subject to interpretation. After his name was a finalist he

1.Started an auction using the status in contest as selling point
2. Tried to give names for votes in the chat room
3. Broke auction rules

So it's clear with the placed infraction the issue is put to bed, its not being returned to The lesser of two goods, but I think the integrity as a whole in the auctions has been reinforced, that wild west has been tamed.
Ok @Tin Nguyen be good young man, best in your new role.

I was the 2nd-to-last bid $31, to a high of $32

Think Rob posted “Sold!” there woul still be outrage, “nobody was going to outbid $1.5K!”

Rob helped DN market and Namepros drop $1.5K than the xxx or xx bid Tin likely would have got!

Infraction unwarranted in a situation where outcome was clearly unaffected, even technical not with rules. i plead on Tin behalf, downgrade infraction.

Management disagrees with you. Nobody is allowed to bend the rules in auctions. I have seen many many people get infractions for breaking auction rules. Nobody is above the rules here.

In every parallel universe, Rob would’ve won auction

What does that have to do with the fact that the auction was conducted improperly? If management had been able to enforce something the guy that bid $32 would have sold to Rob. That is indeed a different outcome. We all have to follow the same rules and really there is no excuse for a member of 3 years not to know what is permitted.

The rules are there for a reason... this auction wasnt getting “gamed! I respect their decision, regardless.

Me thinking. What if Rob had bid, say $50 there and, his was the highest bid during closing ( and kept this poll still open without announcing winner)
Wouldn't the seller be compelled to sell that that price.
I.E. Rob makes a neat profit/ gain of $1450 :)

People would complain Rob got it for too cheap:

“Nobody wanted bid against Rob!”

Lets move on guys.. My opinion is Tin should not have went to auction when he submitted his domain to Epik poll and it's selected. Also he should not have used the auction for his promotion and asking to vote for his domain which is listed in Epik live poll.

Also one of the reason for this domain went up to price $32 in auction is because of only that it is listed in Epik poll and getting some votes otherwise I don't think this domain is favourite for domainers to invest in , so in someway even few bidders might have bid because of this name getting in to top 5 positions and there is a chance that it may win in Epik live poll.

So overall though Tin has not done right with his actions but anyway he is the winner of the poll because of his domain and his matching skill in the area which Rob working on this project.

Now I am waiting for @Rob Monster next domain contest (y).. hopefully we have many more in the future..

Thanks,
Sumeeth

At the end of the day its win-win for both @Rob Monster and @Tin Nguyen. If we keep auction out of context, @Rob Monster did a great job in taking submissions from fellow NP members and buying one from them. It's a great sign. That is the positive side of the story.

@Rob Monster thanks much.
