I'm fairly new to Domaining, mostly a "penny stock", "hand reg" user right now. I am having trouble valuing this domain with 18k search volume and $2.05 CPC. I am assuming this is mostly likely a reflection of the recent news media spike. How would you value this domain?

Regards,
Ed S

Would anyone mind sharing some insight, I am more interested in the process of how you get to a value then the value itself. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

I don't think it's worth anything, despite the search volume. I think it's far too niche. Every country has tariffs and these are all covered on other websites. Companies that import/export will generally know the tariffs or will get them from a known source. I don't see the need for such a specific site.

Also, I think Mexican Tariffs would be a better name, as the singular (tariff) suggests there is only one tariff.

I think most of the search traffic is probably people looking for news rather than actual tariffs. So I don't think anything worthwhile could be developed for this domain.

Thank you for your feedback on this. I really appreciate your insight. I do also have mexicantariff dot com and .org as well (singular). Is it worth holding onto? Is it worth anything? What if political environment changes and it becomes a hot topic again? I though being such a close neighbor and with all the news it could be worth something to a non profit, news agency, etc. If it is worth holding what would a possible value be?

Lots of things are hot news but they are usually covered by general or local news websites. I just can't imagine anyone setting up a website specifically for this. All you can do is advertise it for sale and hope for the best. If I owned it I'd list it for sale but drop it at renewal time. I really don't think it has any value. I could be wrong, which is why it's worth listing for sale. But for anyone starting a site based on this topic, it would be a huge risk because what do they do when it's out of the news? It just doesn't make sense to build a site around one news topic unless you think it will be a hot topic for years to come.

I can see your point on this...I will take it into consideration for sure. Even if someone did build a site, it most likely be a small org with low budget and low advertising potential. Thanks again.

When you do a Google search for Mexican Tariff do you seen and adverts? If you don't then it shows there's not anyone really interested. If there are adverts then some companies may be interested in advertising on a Mexican Tariff site. But even if you build a site you'd be competing against large news organizations who have the top spots. I can't see how you'd outrank them.

Your right, I don't see any ads. I assume the takeaway here is the CPC on KW Finder does not always mean there is active advertising and high search volume doesn't always mean high advertising potential.
