Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

It’s been just couple of weeks coming to Malaysia and right after relocating, I sold couple of domains and that too within 24 hours. It was really surprising and very satisfying to have 2 domain sales and that too of five figures! Having couple of five figures that quickly is a personal record. Credit to the hard working brokers and Afternic team.

Both of them happened via Afternic.

First sale was of DarkWallet.com which I originally listed for sale at $29,888 BIN both at Sedo and Afternic. Usually all my pricing is same at every marketplace. The buyer came via Afternic broker and initially offered $20,000. However, after going back and forth, we settled for $25,000 gross.

Next sale was definitely surprising which happened after DarkWallet.com sale where the buyer simply hit the BIN and paid $19,888 for it. The domain was BusinessChecking.com

The total acquisition costs for both domains was around $1,000.

Looks like the start of this new journey of moving to Malaysia has started fantastically well and hope it continues to keep ticking up only.

Feel free to comment no matter how good or good that is 😉

@AbdulBasit.com Congratulations on these sales.

I believe your portfolio is with Uniregistry.
I've read that Uni doesn't support afternic fast transfer / sedo mls.
When I add a brand new Godaddy registered domain to afternic with BIN, I am able to see the price and Ibuy the domain when I search for it on Godaddy.com, namecheap.com, epik.com without fast transfer being active.
Can you have the same (find the domain with price on godaddy namecheap epik search), if the domain is registered at Uniregistry and added to my afternic account?

I am asking because I am seriously considering transferring all my domains to Uni. Management tools and interface are unbelievable. Lightyears ahead of competition.
I understand why so many premium domains forward to uni landers.

Yeah, my portfolio is at Uniregistry.

You've read that correctly that Uni doesn't support Afternic fast transfers and Sedo MLS which is a big disadvantage.

Yeah, I find the same at those sites. But the price is juggling at every different registrar. Like if I search my domain at Name.com, the price is more than what I've set BIN.

But Uniregistry don't have the full exposure of having the domains listed at every registrar due to not being supporting Afternic fast transfer and Sedo MLS.

One of the reason being with them is their best interface and managing domains. There is no such match with any registrar.

Give them a try and you'll see good results IMO.

Uni's only downside right now is not support self managed payment plans, they need to be done thru a broker, and they charge $40 per month to the buyer to manage it, as well they take their full commission from the first payment, so if the buyer stops after 1 payment, who really gets the best advantage from it, should be structured a bit more fairly on the first payment share.

I wasn't aware of this situation. This doesn't sounds good and yes they do lack offering managed payment plans option like DAN does but I still don't like to point my domains to their landers because paying 9% commission just doesn't make sense to me.

Payment plan option is big time missing from Uniregsitry as well as not supporting Afternic Fast Transfers and Sedo MLS.

If you watch your old lead followup, and sometimes old clients respond, there brokers are taking 2-4 days to respond to some of these clients now, I am not sure why the slowdown, if they have cut staff in the sales office, but this is a very long time. Just small things I am noticing. They do allow you to charge the buyers the CC processing fee now which is nice.

Payments plans are the future, and if the buyer makes a few payments, and walks away, you keep the funds, and the domain, no harm done. Epik offers good self managed payment plan solutions.

I don't forward my old leads to them due to several reasons which they haven't fixed yet. But yes, their brokers are taking more time than usually in past.

Yeah, the CC processing fee can now be put on buyer which is good thing.

Payment plans are what Uniregistry should take seriously and makes it available for all their clients.

I have two other questions.

When you set domains to ''Brokered''.
Whenever there's an inquiry, are you notified that negotiation is underway before any offer / counter offer is made? Do you set minimum acceptable offers or are you the one accepting offers?

I see the parking metrics page.
When someone visits your Uni lander, are you able to see where the visitor is from (country)?
Is there a way to integrate Google Analytics?

Thank you

I haven't forwarded the lead myself for long time so I'm not sure what's their current strategy. But in past, whenever the inactive lead was forwarded to their broker, they usually contacted me back when there was any progress in terms of asking price, counter offer, etc. from the buyer.

Uni lacks in showing where the visitor is coming from and no way to integrate GA as far as I know.

It is also the same for new leads right (vs old inactive leads)?
They notify you for offers etc.. are you the one that decides to accept / counter such and such offer?

For all new leads, they come to me directly and I handle it myself. So it's different scenario for new leads vs inactive leads.

Yes I understand that. I believe it is because you have ''Brokered'' turned off so leads go to you directly.
What I mean is if you turn that ON (I understand you haven't done it in a long time), do they notify you everytime there's a new offer, and are you the one that decides to accept / counter offers? Or are they simply asking for your asking price and floor price?

@wwwweb maybe you've used it recently.

When I used that service, they notified when for any offer/counter offer/price quote request/floor price, etc.

Congrats, Abdul! Couldn't have happened to a better guy!

Regarding 9%, Uni is not cheap either. I had $1995 sale (self brokered) on days and I received $1857, so their fee plus credit card charge added up to $138 or almost 7%.

Thank you dear (y)

You can always put the credit card/PayPal fee on buyer to be paid so you'll end up paying their service fee which is quite nominal. Earlier they didn't allow the option to choose who pays the fee but in recent time they've started allowing the seller to choose who pays the credit card/PayPal fee.

I always choose buyer to pay the fee and never had issues from buyer's point of view. So I would suggest you do the same as well.

I normally negotiate the price and don't like surprising clients with hidden fees.

In this case, the guys wanted to pay $500, when I quoted $5K, he said no thank you, did not know names cost that much, max I can get my partners to is $1000. I declined. Waited for 4 weeks, then basically emailed that I am having a promo for limited time, just follow the domain, click bin at $1995 and take the name right away. Which he did ) Given that I paid under $150 for the name few months back, I am still happy, but just stating that their fees add up to being similar to DAN. But the advantage is that the contacts are transparent. Which helped in this case, because I actually called and talked to the guy in the beginning and had an idea who it is and how to approach him. With DAN it would have been dead.

the commission at DAN is 9%
the commission at SEDO is 15%

What is the commission at UNI ?

If the buyer came through Sedo search, Sedo commission is 15%. If it's through Sedo partner registrar, than 20% commission.

At Uni, if the buyer comes using their lander and you handle the lead/inquiry yourself, you end up paying no commission.
