I invested heavily (10k-15k) into these new domain names back in 2013-2015.

If I only had invested in Crypto instead.

These new extensions was a horrible choice I made the registrars money, that’s about it!!

What were the names you spent 10k-15k mainly on? Can you share some examples? Did they have high reneweals, or what exactly went wrong there? How many names you had together?

Sorry to hear it did not went well for you :(

To be fair, who knows what would have happened with your crypto investment. Exchanges were routinely hacked and there is no guarantee you would have escaped the 2017-2018 ride unscathed. Can you share the TLD you invested in? I can take a look at the development data to see what the horizon looks like for that TLD if you kept some of the names.

My current average result is $1K+ per nTLD, sold 13 non-premium domains as of today.

I invested heavily (10k-15k) into these new domain names back in 2013-2015.
One of the trends I've seen with NGTs is that people invested in English language keyword domain names not realising that the main or dominant markets for those gTLDs were not English language markets. Some of them did not start out that way but the use of domain name discounting by some of the top NGTs had an impact on the values. The other aspect is that some of the registries held back premium domain names for auction. This suppressed the Land Rush phase and basically flatlined demand.

we used to landrush heavily before for dotmobi
(there were only a few extensions then)

one lesson learned todays' domainer context could be work your way up to a .com instead (renewal costs)

If renewal is a problem - then just don't renew... drop and rereg again if needed... Rotate your portfolio - in other words.
All my nTLD sales were within 1st year.

Really depends on the quality/renewal ratio of the domain names you invested in. I've been profitable with ngtlds every year since 2015. Back when I started buying them I expected interest to be higher than it currently is but things are not that bad. I do think though that if ICANN spent some of the ngtld money on raising awareness via targeted marketing campaigns things would be better.

.Global and .Club have done a great job marketing their extensions. They now manage to consistently sell mediocre quality names for very good prices. Domain names of similar quality in other new gtlds have a lower sell through rate even at lower prices.

congrats on varied success with ntlds, must be savvy
(i’m hoping to help yet expedite mainstreaming extensions’ domain names for end users instead of only social media traffic driving = glad you didn’t have to wait 20+ years)
