Is anyone else using cashback programs to save on costs?

I'm using:

  • topcashback.co.uk (and its .com version > topcashback.com) when purchasing from GoDaddy and NameCheap
    For GoDaddy I'm getting 15.75% cashback (yes, it works for DDC too ;) ).
    For NameCheap I'm also getting 15.75% cashback but I've had some issues with orders that did not track. Those did track eventually but I had to contact support to claim the cashback.
  • extrabux.com when purchasing from Dynadot
    For Dynadot I'm getting 25% cashback which is huge in my opinion.
    For example, with the latest transfer promo they had > $7.99 for a transfer you get $2 back > this mean the transfer basically costs you $6... and that's the lowest I know of right now.
    Not only that $6 / transfer is the lowest but you get your domains with Dynadot which is kind of a big deal since they are one of the "better" registrars around.
Of course, you need to remember to click the cashback link before all purchases... But if you have a large portfolio - trust me - it's worth it. For 100 transfers you save $200.

You can join using my affiliate links below (sometimes there are bonuses for doing so):
topcashback.co.uk > https://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/namedawn
topcashback.com > https://www.topcashback.com/ref/namedawn
extrabux.com > https://www.extrabux.com/r/52978b822e (at this time they offer $20 sign-up bonus... which is a lot for this kind of program)

If you don't want to use my affiliate link (for whatever reason) just copy the name and avoid accessing the link.

I tried many of these programs and, from my experience, these are the most serious ones. They actually track the orders most of the time and, unlike others, they actually pay.

You can use these programs even for other stuff you can get cashback for. For example I used them for plane tickets with Lufthansa, ebookers and skyscanner, train tickets with trainline, bus tickets with flixbus, car rental with Priceline, hotel room with Hotwire and booking.com, Adobe subscription, NordVPN subscription, BestBuy purchases, etc...

If you need clarifications, instructions, whatever (even proof of payment) - post here or send me a DM.

Full disclosure: I do prefer topcashback.co.uk because they are the fastest paying and they were the most helpful when I had issues with orders that did not track.

Thanks for sharing. I signed up using your links too. But I'm just a bit confused about the terms of topcashback for namecheap purchase:

"All domains are not eligible for cash back for existing customers." (...?)

And note: Only purchases made on NameCheap's US site are eligible for cash back.

registered with topcashback using your referral.

Does it work with renewals at GD? Because it says it doesn't? Limits on number of domains per transaction?

@justlife - don't know what's that about. For me it tracked both on topcashback.com and on topcashback.co.uk but I mostly use the .co.uk because the cashback rate is a bit higher (15,75% vs 15%)
I see on the co.uk there is no such mention about existing customers. You might want to try using the .co.uk just to be on the safe side.

Received another question via DM but I think it's better to have the answer available here:

So, all I do is go to extrabux, type Dynadot in search, click on Start Shopping, it will redirect me to Dynadot account. I pay for my items, and then I'll get 25% cashback? How long does it take to show in my extrabux account?

And the answer:
Yes - you basically search for the store you want to purchase from and you use the link before the purchase. I usually keep a "clean" browser for doing this (not incognito, I just use Chrome most of the time and use firefox just for this).

There is a small catch at extrabux with Dynadot:
The normal cashback rate is 20% and it becomes 25% if you apply "cashback boost" cards. You get these for all sort of reasons, I never ran out. You just need to apply them to the purchase once it shows.

Purchases from Dynadot usually show in my account in 1-2 days. If it doesn't show (I've had cases like that - don't know why it happened) just add it manually.

@Recons.Com: I buy a lot of closeout / auctions domains and for most of those you have to pay a renewal. It tracked all the time and it worked for me.

About the limit - I am not sure there is one actually. I've read somewhere about $5000 per calendar month per customer when doing affiliate stuff (which this basically is) so my guess it that the limit should be $5000.

[later edit]: I know that getting paid in GBP with topcashback.co.uk might not be to your liking and you might prefer topcashback.com for getting paid in USD but I am telling you from experience that it is better. The rates are better and it looks like the conditions are less restrictive. It's not that hard to use GBP or convert to USD.

With the cashback, in some cases (such as already discounted renewals) the suppliers will sell below cost. Which means that, should the scheme become used too frequently (which may happen right after this NP post), the deal may not last too long. At least for discounted products...

@vravis9 @Recons.Com @justlife @DomainNerdz @Nem0
Thanks for signing up using my link. Much appreciated.
Hope you will find it as useful as I think it is.

@tonyk2000 - don't use it then :)
I really doubt the remaining nP community (which shrunk a lot) will make a difference.

@blank saw some rules ...

On Godaddy page...not applicable for resellers not applicable for renewals and some more...
In that case it won't help that much...

Am I wrong?

@vravis9 - I replied to a similar question above.
Anyway - in short:
  • for me it worked (though last time I used GD with topcashback.com was a few months ago)
  • I use topcashback.co.uk beacause it has better cashback rate. It looks like it is also less restrictive. Maybe use that to be on the safe side.

@blank your answer just costed me about $12 ;)

I renewed 10 and it did not add any cashback. Apparently, that counts as bulk. I assume upper limit for non-bulk is 5.

@Recons.Com - that’s weird. Are you using topcashback.com or topcashback.co.uk?

As I said - it worked for me for much larger transactions but on the co.uk. I didn’t use the .com version much lately.

It does take a couple of hours for transactions to track. Did you wait for a while?

Even on the .com, I think it should have tracked and changed to $0 afterwards. Please be extra careful with other affiliate links you might have clicked. Try using a “clean” browser like I do for this purpose. I use Chrome for everything else and Firefox only for this.

Just out of curiosity > why aren't you taking advantage of the dynadot's current transfer promo + extrabux cashback? It's cheaper than the renewal at GD + topcashback and Dynadot is at least as good as GD as a registrar.
...and you get $20 signup bonus from extrabux.

It sounded exciting.. then became yuck.

https://www.topcashback.com/godaddy/

It says that you can't "resell" domains from go daddy XD. And aftermarket products, like auctions, are not counted for cashback no renewals too...

@Jv1999 - I kindly suggest you read the whole thread.
topcashback.co.uk is less restrictive, extrabux.com same.
I don't think it's reasonable to expect cashback for auctions. You do get it for the renewal / transfer part of the transaction if we're talking about expiring auctions / closeouts.

Also - what's with all the purple & bold? My eyes hurt.

I see a lot of thanks so I really hope you found this thread useful and it will help you save on costs.
I know how expensive keeping a good quality and decent size portfolio can be.

i really don't think it's worth it renewing at GD for these cashback promos. Simply because they don't allow "domainers." Literally state no selling of domains.

If you have to hide your domaining activity just to get a very low amount back, then the time involved is not worth, imho.

But if there are no restrictions at dynadot for that cashback program, then it's safe to use that instead.

@Jv1999 - these are not promos. It's ongoing.
I believe your opinion just comes down to registrar preference rather than using cashback programs vs. not using them.

Latest development from my side:
I am now also using Revolut Metal to get another 1% cashback from everything purchased in the US (including all domain names purchases). With this you get 1% back from everything (including the price you pay for an auction domain). This is pretty important for me because I regularly (read few times per week) win auctions for ~ 100, 200, 300 USD.

Give it a try here:
Revolut
(by using the referral link above you do get the standard account and card for free [normally has some cost] but you have to pay to upgrade to Metal)

@blank it turns out, domain investors are not welcome at topcashback

Hello there,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Unfortunately as per the terms and conditions for this merchant we will have to ask you to no longer use this merchant, this retailer does not allow their domains to be re sold -

**GoDaddy do not permit the reselling of their domains, any member found doing so will be terminated, and Cash Back not awarded.**

If you do continue to use this merchant this could lead to your account being closed.

Many thanks,
TopCashback Support

@Recons.Com > don't use it then. You wanted to prove a point and you did. I'm not going to make it my life purpose to convince you to use cashback programs. ;)

@Jv1999 > I don't think they're dumb, they're just support for a generic cashback program. They don't know / understand this area just like I don't understand quantum physics and you probably don't understand advanced astronomy. They just read the ToS, read the wording of the question and give a reply.

No need to be rude. You created the thread to earn affiliate money and I and others helped you, although no one had to.

And I ran into multiple problems with them, including no cashback for multiple days. When I contacted them, they asked why am I buying so much and I replied that I am a domain investor. And then ... you saw the response.

Look @Recons.Com, I'm not being rude. I even asked you very politely over DM a few days ago if you solved your issue. I asked because I know I never had such issues for much larger cashback amounts than 10 renewals. I got no reply.

I am being rude and I only care about "my little cashflow"?
I apologize.

Ok, I removed that part. That was baseless assumption.

PM: I intended to reply to that, but was waiting for TC's response. And when I saw it today, it came as a complete shocker, so shared here, but was not expecting your mentoring tone with "don't like it, don't use it".

@Recons.Com > don't understand what you removed but ok - great. {LE: okay, understood, you removed the "little cashflow" part}

It's not mentoring tone. From the "Thanks for getting in touch" start of the reply, even if English is only my third language, I was assuming you went and simply asked for a clarification for something that is engineered to be vague - affiliate ToSs. In my book that's looking for trouble, not looking to solve an existing issue (like your missing cashback).
I did not know it was a cherrypicked reply from a longer conversation. Now I know.
Can you please accept my apologies and let's just move on?
