A lot of domain investors also invest in crypto currency it seems as of late. I usually feel pretty confident that a domain I carefully acquire today will be a 10x+ my investment including holding time. If say, I were to buy bitcoin today, is it feasible that i would get 10x my money?

Your post - All conjecture. You do realize that, no?

But actually looking back at some posts from about ten years ago at a couple of my forums there were one or two people who were adamant about staying away from stocks bonds and cash and predicting the collapse of all currencies within five years and that only tangible bullion like gold would be worth holding.

Hasn’t happened yet.

The US left the gold standard in 1971, and paper money started in western civilization in the 17th century. I don’t see us reverting to bullion only, sorry. Not ever. Even if we had nuclear war and most everyone and everything were wiped out why would gold then become valuable?

If indeed everything collapsed I think we'd revert to a barter system, not necessarily gold. What good would a hunk of metal be if everything around centralized government including banks etc. were gone?

I recall this classic Twilight Zone episode where robbers stole a bunch of gold and then placed themselves in suspended animation for many years to escape the consequences. When they returned, they started killing each other over the gold not aware that gold had become worthless in future society when science figured out how to manufacture it artificially.

Lol I loved that episode!! Telly Savales! Kojak!
In the future they figured out how to make gold!

Classic!

Actually that's going on right now via nuclear. But only small amounts.

If this ever happened the next equivalent would be Water.

Anyways I did not mean gold would replaces fiat. Crypto will replace fiat. But since crypto will be traceable. Gold prices will soar just like how Bitcoin soared when used by the likes of silk road for nefarious activities like buying drugs online it murder for hire, buying guns etc, etc.

Well I wouldn't mind for gold to soar. I have a good number of those 1 ounce coins. But it's been pretty flat for a few years now.

My Dad got a bunch of those coins in the early 1970s. Now that was an investment! But as far as my investment in gold, a lot of it was at around 1100 per ounce and yes that's something as far as appreciation versus the 1300 or so of today, but nothing to jump up and down over.

It's nice to look at the gold and think "I have gold!" and it looks pretty, but investment wise for me, hasn't really done much.

avtar629 & tonyk2000:
If you look historically gold prices were flat throughout the ENTIRE 19th century, around twenty an ounce. Prices only started moving up during the Great Depression, in the 1930s. Then it really started moving in the 1970s, AFTER the US got off the gold standard.

I think things will change. See what happened to Bitcoin and then Monero when it was being traded back and forth between "criminals".

I'm saying if crypto were to replace fiat but then crypto becomes even more "Trackable" then Fiat ever was.

The only choice would be physical things with value that can be transferred cross borders. I mean antiques would even work. Even domains.

We are looking a future where no one can "hustle" anymore. but people will still figure out a way. Gold? Antiques? Domains?

Precious metals? jewels?

We shall see!

By the way though the T. Zone episode was
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734674/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt
not the one with Telly.

There was no gold? T. Zone episode with Telly Savalas? Telly was in the talking doll one.

There was a movie Kelly's Heroes with Telly in it, about stealing Nazi gold?

I think Bitcoin will eventually lose its dominance to other crypto currencies. As far as I know this has happened to many pioneers in new technologies.

SO far Crypto winning out..atleast for me! But once in a while, I'll sell a domain for 100x..But it still doesn't put me multiple X over my investments in names.

But crypto has been multiple X's already.. sold.. bought sold.. recently bought.. sold some.. hold some.. will sell more if it goes up more.. this is worst than Monopoly!! Money is not real.. hahhaha..

A month ago I offered someone 100 ETH for a domain. He wanted cash instead but I was lazy to go to the bank. Glad he didn't take it cuz now ETH is worth more than the initial $160.. Sometimes it's better to miss on a deal... :)

Robinhood finally allowed New Yorkers to buy crypto today. I got the announcement when I opened the app.

I think we can all agree that crypto pays better than parking domains. LTC has broke the wall.

I have never sold any BTC. Keep in mind that I have never bought any crypto either - all the crypto I have has been clients paying me in crypto for services rendered.

Don't regret hodling, but woulda been cool to buy something like this at the height of BTC end of 2017, for btc
https://www.theverge.com/2014/1/22/...s-selling-his-7-85-million-mansion-in-Bitcoin
Part of the reason I have never sold is that it's too hard to sell a lot of bitcoin, all these U.S. wallets have limitations on how much you may sell at a time, and then also they want to report your transaction to the US treasury department. My main wallet where I have most of my BTC is overseas and has no mechanism to sell for US residents, so I'd have to transfer it to my US wallet just to sell.
But if I'd traded it for a second home, no selling limitation issues, no reporting (I don't think). So something like that if it comes available again when BTC is back above $20K, I might go for.

Another possibility when BTC is over $20K would be that I sell the wallet intact to some whale, but the sums involved would not make it so easy. Not like meeting a guy at Starbucks to sell a few hundred or even few thousand dollars in BTC for cash....

Over $20K is the minimum price at which I would even consider unloading BTC. Given that it was once just below that, I'd personally never consider selling below where it once was.

Meantime, anyone who wishes to pay me in BTC, which I continue to receive some weekly lately, bring 'em! I shall HODL.

20K Do I hear 20K again?

Of course it's a long way off...but closer than when it was back at 3K.

BTC may drop back to around 9k then shoot up to 12k.

Most of the other coins are garbage. Don’t count on them, especially long term, unless you want your heart broken.

I like garbage that goes up 5x plus in a few months.
