Page Howe did a post today on DN.biz that Uniregistry expired inventory is going to Dynadot's marketplace. Page wrote: Uniregistry names seem to carry a higher than normal $50 fee, (Dynadot owned names start at $12.99) and seem to be at a set time, about 8 PM EST. That a smart move as opposed to the tough to follow all day expired names period for Dynadot names. You can read the … [Read more...]

Hi,

I won couple names at Dynadot. Paid for them. Both registered at Uniregistry. Both got transferred out to Godaddy by someone else (May be original owner or they may be someone else too). I got refund for both names. I will try to detect who did that because both owners are same at Godaddy now. That is unethical practice too. Name won at Dropcatch / Namejet in expired section guaranteed to hit the account.

Godaddy expired name whose registrar are Godaddy is guaranteed to hit our account if we win the auction and paid.

So many unethical companies still do unethical practices where they allow such things where there is no guarantee of name hit account or not after winning and paid in timely manner.

Thanks

the same here, I bought a domain from dynadot, uniregistery expired, i won auction and paid more than $600. Dynadot refund me because uniregistery moved domain to Epik. I am sure original owner not renew it. Someone else maybe bought it from epik marketplace, and uniregistery think that this is a smart way to earn more and there is no action from dynadot

Yes know that start aprox 1 month ago
One of reasons i give up , because almost all good domains are renewed/transfer out by previous owner
i prefer to keep my money in my poket then to be virtual in my DD account
The idea is good but not like this

I've watched and participated in these Uniregistry domains being auctioned off at Dynadot. My reactions were:

1) Is that ALL the Uni expiring domains, or a subset.
2) I never won an auction. Has anybody?
3) I wondered about renewals and transfers. I think Dynadot should re-think this strategy, if all they are doing is providing a free valuation service, and are not making any sales that stick.

I have seen Porkbun expires at Dynadot as well...

It would be all eligible expiring domains that were listed for auction on our marketplace rather than a subset.

As with our own expired domain auctions, the current registrant would still be entitled to their full grace renewal period at Uniregistry, so unfortunately there is still a chance that the domain may be renewed or transferred to another registrar after the end of the auction. If this is the case, the charge would be automatically be refunded to the Dynadot account by our system, but our orders team would be able to refund the charge to it's original payment method if you were to contact them with the request.

Anyway to start them later so not to have that issue with renewal after the auction win?

Thank you all for your comments. We are currently fine-tuning the synchronization of the auctions to ensure a smooth experience for every user. We appreciate your patience in these early stages and look forward to building the most robust and seamless auction platform possible.

You need to do some work on this so that you fund directly to the original payment method. There are not many people who want hundreds or thousands of dollar payments refunded to our account, who then have to manually request a refund to the original payment source. (Well, maybe a very small percentage).

We are not living in 90s... People have these complaints since long time. Its total waste of time for everyone. I do not understand why Dropcatch & Namejet expired auction guaranteed to hit the account after winning and Dynadot & many other such companies not able to provide honest and ethical service. Every time we hear you will do something. This is total unethical practice honestly. Why do you run auction if there is no guarantee?? People participate in auction to win not to get refund and talk to unethical customer support for requesting refund. I know I am using harsh words. But this is fact and pain of honest customer.

If you really care then take action. If not then always remember nothing is permanent. There will be a company who will offer services honestly. If you don't take care of customer, someone else will.

Thanks

I am sorry if you feel this is unethical, we try to be fair to both the current registrants of the domains and our auction users and are working to optimize the expired auctions for both.

Thank you, I will pass the feedback on to our team to see if this would be possible.

@Dynadot, today I was alerted that one of my domains, still in the grace period at Uniregistry, was "SOLD" by your company. (Note: this is occurring while the domain is still under my ownership in my UNI account. This listing of my asset for sale took place without my knowledge or permission.) Mind you, the only way I was made aware of the "sale" is that I saw it listed on Namebio as a completed sale. I always intended to renew my domain during the grace period, and I did so, but not before your "sham" sale was reported. Now the value of my domain is permanently damaged, as any search will reveal a low Dynadot sales price, for a domain THAT WAS NEVER ACTUAL SOLD. This practice is beyond unethical and may be legally actionable, as it causes measurable economic damage to the domain owner. At the very least, any reporting of sales by Dynadot should be delayed until sales are verified as completed. (Admittedly, I'm not sure if Dynadot reported the sale to Namebio, or whether the data was merely mined by Namebio or reported by the actual auction winner in this case.)

Personally. I think you should refer to the Uniregistry ToS as to what they can and cannot do with your domain after it's expiry. You might get surprised or pleased. And then take it up with them, explaining what has happened here. And ask for their comments. I agree, that what has happened is a tradegy. But it is of Uniregistry's making by deciding to auction expiring domains off at Dynadot. Personally, I think this is a pigs breakfast on both sides.

There is also Namebio between... Very questionable actions. Reporting unconfirmed sales??? And, speaking about wholesale market, even if it is/was "confirmed"... Such reporting (obviously wholesale pricing) is not beneficial to anybody. Endusers? They are not necessary able to understand the difference between wholesale and retail domain pricing. Domainers? Past wholesale price is of little or no practical interest (cannot be used as a reference - comparable sales - with enduser negotiations), and such a reporting is harmful to a genuine buyer - fellow domainer (or, like in current case, to the owner who was not really changed).

@stub, I took your advice and contacted UNI and yes, apparently UNI's ToS does seem to permit them to allow a 3rd party (Dynadot) to auction off your domain after 30 days into UNI's stipulated 40 day grace period. (So, even though there is a remaining 10 days grace period left to renew your name at UNI, Dynadot can apparently auction off your name on day 30 after expiration.) However, the ToS is moot as to the publication of "fake" sales info from these "faux" auction sales by Dynadot. IMHO, for a premium platform like UNI to engage in this practice, especially given that they charge a not inconsiderable membership fee and laud themselves as domainer friendly, is supremely irresponsible and possibly injurious to their reputation. I don't know how much money they're making off their new partnership with Dynadot, but I hope it's worth losing the patronage of domainers such as myself.

PS - A "pig's" breakfast, indeed - And unfortunately, I was on the menu! :banghead:

@NamesBond great username. I think @Michael can probably remove the sale in this situation?

@Andrew Knox, thanks for the advice! I have contacted Michael and he has already pulled the "faux" listing. (Those guys at Namebio are "top notch" in my book!) Unfortunately, he appraised me that Namebio doesn't have a direct verified auction feed from Dynadot, so they're stuck scraping their sales info from the closed auctions. This said, it's important to note that my type of scenario may crop up again in the future, so anyone with names at UNI in a "grace" status is going to have to remain extra vigilant... (At least until UNI changes their policies or Dynadot gets smart and synchronizes their auctions to coincide with the expiration of Uni's 40 day grace period instead of using the current 30 day mark to commence their auctions! (y))

I think you therefore owe Dynadot an apology. Since it was not them publcising the sale of your domain. The problem was with NameBio being overzealous.

I don't think @Michael did anything wrong NameBio reports sales data.
