Thanks for the info, but I seriously doubt that JET.CA would have only one bidder, as it went to pre-auction status almost immediately at the TBR places I use.

Is FastWebServer similar to others, where multiple bids over $XXX or hitting a max $XXX bid auto-enables an auction? If so, do you know the exact dollar amounts and procedure?

It's tiered. If you bid $250 for one name and somebody else bids $500 for another, they put all their resources into the $500 bid. If multiple parties bid on the same name there will be an auction, but you have to bid in the 2nd tier to participate. 1st tier bidders can't participate in the auction. If I remember right there are 5 tiers.

I would have loved to get in on jet :xf.frown:

Did anyone here get in on jet?

I've periodically tried FastWebServer but never get anything so then I give up for a few months (or even years), then decide to give it a try again, etc... The same goes for a few other smaller TBR registrars. Most of the time its all for wasted effort.

I wonder what jet will end up going for. Probably a lot less than if MyID had won it.

Pool and others had a good week, but I think something seemed to go wrong for myid and sibername which is what left the door wide open for the others. I haven't had great luck with pool lately, personally.

Other than FastWebServer, the rest of the second-tier are mostly a waste of time, as their server numbers are so low that they get overloaded with any sort of additional demand.

Right now it looks like POOL has their ducks all in a row (and I believe their TBR servers are very close to the CIRA's - I think they used to be next-door on Sussex) and are the one I'd be looking at as an alternative to MyID. Sibername is always a good bet, and then FastWebServer as a flier.

But outside of the top guys, the rest are mostly good at picking up scraps and you have a 0% chance of getting ultra-premiums like JET.CA or 75.CA.

Looks like they are in different parts of Ottawa. Pool.com and it's companies (Rebel, DomainsAtCost) have an address in the South End (near the airport if you're familiar with Ottawa) and CIRA is closer to downtown. In the Glebe neighbourhood (our version of a 'mid-town' I guess) in the same complex where the RedBlacks and 67's play .

This is just going by the office addresses. No clue on where their servers or other infrastructure is housed.

But in searching up on Pool.com, I read up a bit on it's CEO Rob Hall. This guy founded CIRA! and he's got quite the resume. Interesting dude for sure

I know Rebel houses the Pool servers downtown on Sussex and/or Dalhousie (I know a guy who works there) and that the CIRA TBR servers used to be right next door to one of those locations, but are still pretty close.

P.S. that was no coincidence.

Look up the corporate information for any of the Pool TBR numbered companies and you will get a Sussex St address, and Rebel is on Dalhouosie in the Market. The CIRA is now listed down on Bank, near the Glebe, but I believe "back in the day" it was closer to downtown, which is why the setup was created.

Actually, pool's system is a bit odd. When you place orders, they show up in that list under My Orders. After the tbr runs, everything that pool caught is removed from that list, leaving the list of everything they DIDN'T catch. Weird, right? The stuff they actually caught gets moved out of your "My Orders" list to your "My Auctions" list, or to your "Successful Orders" list (if you were lucky enough to get one with no other bidders).

Pool is like MyID in that its one of those places where they haven't bothered to update their interface in 15 years.... do the bare minimum, make the most profit... I inquired years ago about fixing some issues they have and they said it would be fixed soon. Well when I re-inquired just a couple weeks ago, they just flat up said, no, don't count on it getting fixed any time soon. So while appreciated the honest answer, it says a lot about priorities.

Wow, another 50+ LLLs dumped onto the TBR already. Are we looking at another record-breaking week for 3-letter turds?

(Little off-topic because I'm using a .com for example, so sorry in advance)

Anyone here use and understand the GoDaddy auctions? I usually just browse to kill time, but I have a question.

Saw a .com with a BIN price of $5 (GoDaddy shows $7CDN) so I figure what the hell. I click on the 'buy it now' link and am taken to my cart where it now shows a price of $31.97CDN??

I tested a dummy registration of a hand-reg and it comes to $14.99CDN

I know auction BIN's include a year of registration, but how does a BIN of $7CDN jump to $31.97CDN?

By my math, it should be roughly...$7 (BIN) + $14.99 (1 year reg) = $21.99 +/- tax

If my math is correct, where is the extra $9.98 coming from? ($31.97 - $21.99 = $9.98)

Probably "transfer fees" if the domain was from outside GoDaddy - it's usually around $10 CAD depending on the exchange.

Look back at the original BIN and see if there is a transfer fee notation.

Thanks, that seems to be roughly the dollar amount that I can't identify.

But the Whois already says it's with GoDaddy, so it won't be a transfer if I buy it now. Maybe it was transferred recently and they're just passing along the cost to whoever buys it?

As for a notation, there is an asterisk next to the $5 BIN, but all it says is..."* Plus a one year domain name registration renewal fee and ICANN fee, if applicable"

If you still want to buy it, look around for a coupon code, and if nothing else, use the old
CJC1OFF30 30% one.

Will we hit 9K on the TBR for the ninth week in a row? Right now the averages say 8,958 so it's going to be close.

I like it and I would definitely hold that one.

On another note, after a big Sunday push, we're up to 9,102 (and possibly more to come) for this week.

Looks like Bruins are on their way to winning it all

Not after all that pizza, beer and weed they'll partake of during the long, long, long break til the Finals.

Odds are stacked way against them (especially the first few games before they get their game legs back), and the Bruins need to hope the other team screws up during the first 2 games.

Hab.ca

Making my decision to purchase the first question I would ask myself is how would I use it in business.

Hab is ok, jet is insanely good.

Personally I would not bid overly high on hab.

I would bid up to 20k for jet.
I offered 25k for now.

For hab my personal offer would not exceed 2k
