Sedo’s Great Domains auction concluded a few moments ago, and Cooking.com was sold for $402,500. The auction was extended by over and hour and a half as the high bidder continued to slowly increase the high bid enough to hit the reserve price. In total, there were 39 bids placed in the auction.

Once the sale of Cooking.com closes, it should rank in the top 5 publicly recorded domain name sales of the year on DNJournal (unless other large public sales are also reported). Cooking.com will rank ahead of the $370,000 sale of DomainNames.com and below the $435,000 sale of Leads.com.

I believe this is the largest sale via Sedo’s Great Domains auction in quite some time. Cooking.com is a great domain name, and I think $402,500 is a pretty solid price for it.

As usual, my opinion is that Cooking.com fetched a bit higher than expected price :) What do you think?

I think it's a fair price, even worth more.
Maybe because I love to cook.

Someday hope that it actually might have content and be a website.

Feels a little underpriced imo. Did they name a buyer? Has to be an investor who bought it. With so many big name end users to market this name to, I'm guessing we see it resold for 2x-3x in the future.

Has the potential to be a hugely popular site.

I won't secretly tell you that this is my first choice for future projects.;)

Honestly, I thought it would go for way more.

Given the enormity of the cooking and cooking related market I would have ventured an opinion the name would bring a larger purchase price.

Seemingly a great name purchased at a decent price point - Congrats to all involved!

Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver et al... great for any of them. For all of them.

wow what a deal, interesting how quick you would monetize such a domain

Could have sold for a wee bit more....

I've never sold anything above $15K, so I'm not a great one to judge. But, I always think a fair price for any item is one that the buyer thinks he should have paid a little less for and one the seller thinks he should have sold for a little more. Seems like a decent price to me.

Auction set the value. If owner had marketed to the right network, it could have been higher.. that's probably true with most sales.

No doubt Cooking.com is a 7-figure domain. But then this is an auction sale. Most times, you get below expected price from auction sales, depending on the participants.

So did I with how many cooking shows there are on tv alone.
Yeah... $402k on this name is a secure investment. Hope it was purchased by an investor. I am looking at it selling for $2m soon.
