Hello everyone. I have some random thoughts and I figured what better place to discuss than here at NamePros! I am thinking about how I am surprised that FILL IN THE BLANK DOMAIN has not sold yet. So what domain do you currently own that you are surprised has not sold yet? I will go first! I am surprised DenyLies dot com has not sold yet. With all the reputation repair businesses out there and all . . . Its catchy and flows well. Very pleasing to the ears as well! For a two worder it is very short!

I have this domain hack, Multivitam.in and what I am wondering is if the shorter domains are better then why isn't Multivitam.in better than Multivitamin.com? We could have used any hack! If Lo.ve were available, why isn't Lo.ve better than Love.com?

Not me, because there's no lander and thus no way to know that it's for sale. Please explain the rationale behind not having a lander and then being surprised it hasn't sold...

Also, I don't like the name.

Your asking price is $20,000 and minimum offer $5000

Way too high in my opinion.

Shave a zero off each number and you might get some action.

It shows a lander for me so don't understand this comment.

I agree that reputation management is a strongly growing niche, but I think most would brand in something more conservative (even with deny I don't like lies in a company name). Possibly it would be better suited to political action group, joutnalist, blogger, etc if priced in their range.

Good luck with it!

Bob

Ps Did you change price cause it is not as above. I see $500 minimum.

Thanks! I had changed the txt in my NameSilo account to verify ownership with GoDaddy so I could list it there as well. I just deleted that file! I am hopeful it will populate correctly using my @toughdomains lander.

I only get a "Error 404 (Not Found)" message. Just as I did yesterday.

Still works for me showing a nice Tough Domains lander. Is it possible you are using a Chrome browser that does not download a new version of the page? I have noticed sometimes when updating my website that effect. Anyway all I can say is it shows absolutely fine for me.

Nope, I have cleared my browser history and cache, but to no avail. Does not resolve. Have tried Safari as well with no luck.

Onwards and upwards!

I see my lander as well.

But more than whether you like my lander or not, and @DrJacoby I know you aren't infatuated with the name either, the post was more of an attempt to generate conversation. I also had high hopes of others sharing a name in their portfolio that they were surprised had yet to sell. I also wonder what happens if there isn't a sale with that domain? Will that domain then set sail for the promised land . . . of drop catching? In the case of my DenyLies.com I would call it "Three Tool" prospect. By the way as an aside, if you are familiar with baseball, the 5 star prospect is a guy that can hit for average, hit for power, run, throw, and play great defense in the field. Deny Lies is short, very catchy, com, and brandable. I will not set DL off for the drop catchland

Let me first of all say the simple answer to your question for me is no. I know that a typical domain name even in legacy extensions has a probability of about 1 in 100 of selling in any one year (and for the country code and new extensions that make up the majority of my portfolio it is even smaller), so my expectations are realistic and I do not expect any particular domain name to likely sell even in a few years.

It is true that names that have sold, or received offers, are not in many cases the ones I would have predicted. But I think that is just small number statistics and the fact that to have an offer/buyer only needs a single person seriously interested (although probable sales need many).

I guess the domain name I was most surprised that got no interest was nanoAZ in com. I promoted it on my site and a bit on social media, and eventually put it up for auction on NPs and it did not get a single bid! I regret but after that lack of interest I decided to let it drop if the domain community saw no value in it. After I let it drop I decided I would get it again, but noticed that almost immediately it was picked up by a Chinese domain investor and is currently for sale there. I wish I had had the confidence to keep it - 6 letters, starts with nano that has multiple meanings and nanotechnology is no doubt one of the biggest things of the coming decade, is pronounceable, the AZ works as a reference site if one wants that. Probably had I not tried to auction it (my first try at an auction on NPs and held too close to expiration and not done as well as I should re promotion) I would have kept it. The experience taught me that while other opinions matter, do have confidence in your own analysis. Anyway it is a domain now gone and time to move on.

Another name that got no queries that I liked a lot but I let drop after no queries was campfires in the .ca extension. With so much camping, summer camps, outdoor living, etc. in Canada I thought it was a nice name. I tried a bit of social media soft promotion, and no queries let it go. It was snapped up by a Canadian domain outfit and is for sale. Not sure if they are NPs represented. Interestingly their name ends in fires so I guess appropriate that they took campfires! I still like the name a lot, again regrets.

Of the domain names I still have, I had hopes for (despite few sales in the extension) CRISPR in the .science extension. CRISPR is in headlines and was the science breakthrough of year in 2015 and will revolutionized health, agriculture, biomedical research, etc. I plan to definitely keep it until I get an end user and have it renewed several years more and may add to that. It was one of my early domains in the new extensions and I think someone will want the elegance of the exact acronym in the extension that matches it. The acronym in .com apparently sold for $75,000. So a little surprised no reasonable offers, although not really surprised no sale in the two years I have held it.

Thanks for the thread, @Want2learn !

Bob

If my memory serves me correctly my first sale ever was LoveSmiled.com. It wasn't the name I thought I would sale first either!

1. the best is only work with.com
2. to price domains is not so easy, its depened on alot of factors take for example jets.com sold for very low compare to privatejet, now privatejet its much more long domain then jets.com still sold for much more, or another example that cars sold for huge number but insurance sold for much less and so on,
so its very hard to price domain, and estibot or other tolls like that never can know how to price domain ,its just impossible and yet still alot of domainers use this tools.

i know someone who make only big deals and he told me alot of domainers hurt this industry by solding good domains for low price, and he told me the most hard thing here is how much i will sell this domain,

so try to work with dot.com only domains and its much better to hold few high quality domains then ton of random domains, and very important in the right industries, because in some industries they will invest in good domain.

also its much easier to work with bot that search domains, i found tons of best domains and i mean best domains which no body ever register them, and its fucking weird , there was a day i found very high quality domain until i register it somebody already buy it , so from experience not theory, out there is alot of high end domains its just impossible to find them by hand, with bot its much easier,

I always thought I'd have destink.com sold by now. I've never asked for much out of it and I feel like its a fun little brandable for some sort of smell good product. I've heard people use the word before and its obvious what the meaning is. Despite having sat on it for 3 years without any inquiries, I still cant help but think this is a decent name.

The name does not resonate much for me, although I agree it is short and easily remembered. I wonder if pet smell related business might have interest, air fresheners, etc. Or possibly a political parody and humour site might find it funny. While your lander is beautiful and elegant (and great for most business names) I wonder if it, and the bullet points, are a mismatch for this type of domain name. I doubt a business will brand on the name, but rather see it for a marketing campaign or social site. Just my humble option. Best wishes for it. It doesn't stink! :-P

Bob

PS Surprsing to me HowToGetRidOfStinkBugs (com) sold for $1500 so maybe I do not understand the stink niche! :xf.cool:

don't have any names that haven't sold, which have surprised me.

what surprises me.... is who catches the names that I drop, and the prices they stick on them afterwards.

:)

imo...

Have I caught any of your names? I think it is fair to say that your domain crap may in fact be my bread and butter;)

PS

Not once, not one time, not even one time in your life did you have just one single domain that you thought you would have sold by now? I don't understand. How is that possible? You have dropped names before. Why have names you don't think will sell?

I have sold a few that I thought would not sell, some that I hoped would sell, have a few I think will sell but nothing that I thought I should of sold by now......clear? :xf.confused:

Here is my summary:
  1. Many names that I feel positive about have not sold and not had a single (serious) inquiry.
  2. A few names that I did not feel that positive about have sold.
  3. If I was not so lazy and procrastinating probably my success would be better.
  4. Re point 3 they should stop coming out with new extensions to distract me (and I should limit my time on NPs)
  5. I am not worried because I know I will only sell half of mine by about 2069.
  6. Re point 5 my doctor suggests I should eat more healthy, exercise and pray a lot or my names will mainly never sell.
  7. Re point 6 - time to interest grand children in domain names. I wonder if they teach it in Kindergarten?
  8. Re points 1-7. Spend more time selling domains and less time writing 8 point NPs answers.
:xf.wink:

I tend to price my better names at higher prices and lower-quality names at much lower prices. Yet over the years there is far more demand for lower-priced domains than higher-priced domains - regardless of domain quality. Most people just do not want to pay a lot of money for a domain name.

As Biggie stated, at times I have lowered pricing on lower-quality names to low $XXX and when the expiration date came I decided to not renew. Then a domain investor picks it up and prices it at five figures. If it was really worth five figures why was no one interested at $250?

Mine would have to be MadeElegant.com a hand reg in my newest portfolio, the names is still fresh and maturing though, I got a $400 offer from Afternic on it about a month ago and turned it down, looking for around 2.2k for it.

I like that name as well. Who have you targeted for outbound? Like what industries?

I don’t do any outbound, I just list with undeveloped , Sedo and afternic and kinda sit quietly and wait.

If I were targeting a company
with that name it would most likely be clothing or dish/glassware , something along those lines I think

I don't know what names you own, so wouldn't know if you caught any of my drops.

still, domainers as a group drop names yearly, and others will backorder them with renewed hopes.

I dropped the following:
africanclothingandart.com/ it was picked up and now used as a website about towing services.
go figure that one.

dropped domainsupermart.com recently and somebody picked it up and put on undev with $5k price
previously I used it as a one page lander for a domain list > http://urlpick.com/domainsupermart.html

dropped eyesoptical.com, used to earn nice $ @ sedo and after some years traffic fell off
it was picked up by eyesoptical.com.au
I offered that name to a wtb thread on np and the OP said it didn't make sense lol

dropped dombuy.com, picked up by hugedomains.com now has $5K price tag
the name was previously used for domain registration site under enom > https://web.archive.org/web/20140209033916/http://www.dombuy.com/

all of those had value in the eyes of others while in pending delete, but for me, it was time for them to go

PS

Not once, not one time, not even one time in your life did you have just one single domain that you thought you would have sold by now? I don't understand. How is that possible? You have dropped names before. Why have names you don't think will sell?

I acquire some domains mostly for type-in traffic and if they don't produce over a period of time,
then i set them free.

sure, prolly could get a few bucks or more for them if I was an "outbounder", but rather let others fight over them at nj, snap or dc
it my way of giving back to the community ;)

also, I've held names for 10 years or more before selling, so there's always that possibility they will sell in the future

I don't have the "flipper" mentality, so expectations are much different, than those who do

As Biggie stated, at times I have lowered pricing on lower-quality names to low $XXX and when the expiration date came I decided to not renew. Then a domain investor picks it up and prices it at five figures. If it was really worth five figures why was no one interested at $250?

sometimes, it depends on "who" picks it up
as I've stated before, if it's a persona` or high profile domainer in domain world, others may view the name as having value or being worth the new asking price, simply because that person owns it.

so that;s why i'm more surprised at who catches my drops, than what names don't sell.

imo....
