Cool that you have the video of the actually auction. Is that Frank bidding with the sign?

Yes, that's frank.
The video of this specific name sale was posted to LinkedIn.com on February 5, 2019 by Jordi Gasull, CEO at http://www.nameagency.com

I'm jealous right now. Was thinking of acquiring DomainNames.com someday for my portfolio sales page. Now, it has gone to the unapproachable place :xf.cry::xf.cry::xf.cry::xf.cry::xf.cry:

Have you got good results using those exact match names?

Has it built trust?

I own DomainNames.vg

Someone seem to be using domainname.vg as a landing page...

So I have considered it too...

Wait a few years ago DomainNameSales.com rebranded as Uniregistry.com. So will they now rebrand as DomainNames.com?

I wouldn't have thought so. Uniregistry is brandable, identifiable and protectable. DomainNames.com is too generic to be the same. They probably just saw it up for auction and wanted the exact match domain for what they sell and they have deep pockets.

Back in November, Frank Schilling tweeted that:

“…we are launching the greatest piece of sales infrastructure ever launched to sell a domain name. Nobody innovates like Uni.”

https://twitter.com/Frank_Schilling

The timeline for the new “infrastructure” indicates it will be launched sometime around August.

I sell through the Uniregistry Market, and participated in a survey last year about what users would like to see added. So Uni sent me a list of initiatives to rate and vote on. Some top ideas. Plus I also sent them some suggestions too.

Details are confidential. If Frank hadn’t posted his tweet, I wouldn’t even be posting this comment.

I have no idea which initiatives will make it to the new “infrastructure”, but I have very high hopes.

I will be extremely surprised if the company does not leverage the incredible power of the category defining name DomainNames.com to the max. Instant credibility and trust, you know the rest.

So hopefully in about six months we will see a big "new" player in town, a new milestone in the Industry of Domains:

DomainNames.com

Thanks for the insight @BrandableDomain

Whilst I don't dispute that they will leverage the domain to it's full potential, I'd be surprised if they decided to throw away their entire brand presence for "Uniregistry" and go with DomainNames.com...?

I completely agree with you, I would just like to see DomainNames.com used as the name primarily for the marketplace (or some variation of a dual naming model like that).

The registry and registrar should continue to be called Uniregistry.

This would be similar to how Godaddy and Afternic are two separate entities.

When a big company has a significant “subsidiary” enterprise or whatever you call it, a separate brand and website is appropriate to maximise its success.

For example Google has YouTube - which is so much better than if it had been called GoogleVideo and located at Google.com/video.

The Uni Market is already highly successful, yet is short of its potential. Currently, if you navigate to UniregistryMarket.com, it redirects to Uniregistry.com. You have to look to find a little button that says “Market” to even find the marketplace.

So the company could ideally use two names with each strongly cross-marketing the services of the other one.

Uniregistry.com and DomainNames.com
