How's everyone doing? I'm an artist interested in making more money on the side. While trying to come up with a "brandable" name, I stumbled on the world of domain name investing! I've been reading some of the beginner articles (and more) and wish to get serious about domain investing. I've already registered a .biz and .info since I found single (key?)words that might have an audience. After checking wayback machine, they might be worthless though!

Anyway, thank you for the great site and community! I hope to learn from everyone and ultimately make some $$$!

Welcome @NameArtist - glad to have you at NamePros. As far as buying domains, you'd be wise to continue reading and learning about domain investing before buying much - that will save you a lot of money in the long run. Also, for beginners it's probably a good idea to stick with .coms.
Wish you the best in domaining!

Hello @NameArtist .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

I'll mirror what @J Sokol mentioned and that it's probably best you stick to .com domains .. particularly when starting out. .biz and .info domains do sell .. but they really need to be great keywords to have much of a chance of selling them at a high enough multiple to be worth the investment.

On that note, it's important to point out that even the best of portfolios only sell a small fraction of their domains a year .. which is why you'll likely end up losing money with non-com's .. because for what few domains you do sell, the mark-up needs to be big enough to cover all your other domains .. and the problem with the vast majority of .biz and .info is that both the sell through percentage and markup threshold combined almost always will not be enough to cover your total portfolio expenses.

Although maybe you grabbed a couple of gems .. so who knows .. either way, best of luck to you and your domains! :)

@Ategy.com @J Sokol Thanks guys. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the potential for .coms to be honest. Trying to narrow it down to some east coast states, california, florida, apartments, marijuana, local cities, local streets but don't know what'll work. I'm hand registering domains.

On that note, it's important to point out that even the best of portfolios only sell a small fraction of their domains a year

That's why I picked up these one word .biz and .info domains. I thought they would be sure hits, especially for the low reg cost. Guess sharing my domains is the point, right!? I picked up polyandry.info and warfare.biz thinking I could make back the reg plus more without waiting years. I understand the domain game is about sitting on valuable property for a long time though. I actually really like warfare.biz and might even do something with it myself down the line. I hope to get them appraised later! Anyway, thanks for the advice!

edit: if what i regsitered is good/bad, anyone, feel free to let me know!
