I have won crypto.house for $311 USD 3 days ago and paid for the auction but I have received a mail after two days and saying that auction got canceled and the amount refunded to my Dynadot account balance.

I was monitoring this name for almost two days before it ends and placed a bid(s) on the last minute and paid for it so simply providing a reseller value to the owner. The owner was watching the auction silently and renewed it on the last minute. How stupid Dynadot to allow to renew and list on their market and they triggered a mail saying that it has listed on market with make an offer!

I think Dynadot should compensate for my time that I've spent on an auction. Only low-quality domains will be awarded like Bitcoins.Media and won it for $29 USD.

This is not the first time, They have canceled many auctions

Vrgl.com ( I have paid $1056 USD then amount credited to my account balance then later refunded to my card since I requested them)
Skitek.com
SocialFeeds.com

@Michael - Can you remove vrgl.com, socialfeeds.com, crypto.house sales history from Namebio since Dynadot canceled the auctions. I guess half of the reported sales from Dynadot were canceled like PaintRoom.com..

I have stopped bidding on Dynadot auctions and I have placed few bids recently to check their progress but they didn't change much.

Vrgl.com canceled on Jan 2018 and they were saying that they noted my feedback but they didn't change after a year also. It seems they wanted to waste our time.

It is not a rocket science. Implement a pre-bidding/ backorder if you want to give more time to the owner then send the domain to auction if it has 2 or more bids after specified deadline.

@Dynadot - Would like to hear your thoughts on it.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Like other digital platforms, they avoid following “English absolute auction” rules. I quit using them and other platforms over a year ago because of this.

Just forget using them, funny thing is next year on the exact time period when the domain expires yet again with the same “domainer” testing any bids, you will receive An UNSOLICITED DYNADOT EMAIL (from their “tracking database” they use since you bid this year) to invite you to bid again on this fake auction!

At least Namesilo and Godaddy modified the rules somewhat (~$80 renewal charge) to attempt to eliminate this last minute renewal.

About a year ago I won solid domain at Dynadot auction. Then after a couple days they sent me an email, that owner decided to renew his domain and my money was returned to my account without payout possibility.

At least you get the domain instantly with Namesilo if you win an auction there.

This latest "make offer" is a pain...

And i don't understand what that means...

It means, that the domain is still on auction but the buyer is still sitting there waiting for a good offer and may cancel the auction??????? Or what...

That should be illegal.

We do give the original registrant their full grace renewal period to renew their domains. We understand other registrars have different policies, but we like to be fair to both parties.

If an expired auction domain order is cancelled due to renewal the order is refunded to account balance automatically. You can send an email to [email protected] to request the refund be processed to the original form of payment.

The make an offer option is not associated with our expired auctions. It is a setting that customers can use to list a domain in our marketplace.

The seller has the option to list the domain for a price or for "make offer." A buyer can then purchase a Marketplace domain at the price set by the seller or make an offer to the seller to begin the purchase process.

I had the same issue a few months ago. It was my first Dynadot auction. They refunded me money in 2 or 3 days.
Why they auction if then still let to the ex owner buy it?

And I absolutely love your policy! Domain registrants must have a right to renew their domains during full grace renewal time.

Thank you for the explanations.

But please explain more about the actual screenshot. We see that there is 22 min left. What does it mean? What scenarios there can happen? The ex owner still has 22 minutes to renew? What if i want to buy this domain and send the owner an offer and he doesn't get an email or is sleeping - and then the domain is gone? And what if the owner gets the offer and decides to renew - but misses for a few seconds?

I'm very confused about all this.

Is this screenshot of your domain watchlist? When a domain expires the marketplace listing is placed on hold. I have notified our engineers to take a look at the watchlist. If you searched for the domain it would have only shown the expired auction. Not both the market place and the expired auction. Sorry for the confusion!

Yes, that screenshot was from my watchlist a couple days ago.

My previous post about your fake auctions I mentioned above over a year ago never was answered, no credit back to my credit card was offered even when I emailed either. I was “stuck” using the money up from credit.

Domainers that wait to get free appraisals and game the system to pay at the very last minute are simply unethical business people.
Cater to them. Buyer beware.

I don't think anyone enjoys the fact that many of the dynadot auction domains get renewed AFTER the end of the auction. It is very frustrating when time is utterly wasted.

This is a not fair game since you are favoring the owner and he/she is getting a free appraisal. And all domainers are losing their efforts for identifying the right domain name and time spent on auction.
Implement a pre-order system and send the domains(which are having bids) to the auctions otherwise let it expire!

Yes, domain registrants must have a right to renew during a grace period and how about others time. Dynadot must change the current system and come with the new process but they failed to listen to what others say!

Many big registrars do it same way, including GoDaddy, etc. This is reality. And this is a lottery. If one doesn't want wasting their time, one can simply stop using it.

What I don't like is entire auction profit is taken by registrars whereas losing domain registrants get nothing. This is to be ashamed imho.

BTW, I don't like at all this expiring domain auction thing in it is current form, but we can do nothing about it.

GoDaddy does not allow renewal of domains that are in expired auctions. They wisely made the change...

Thanks, I didn't know that. Afair they were allowing renewal of domains bought from closeouts in last October.

If so, I don't like it. GoDaddy won, some domainers won, most of registrants lost.

Still I prefer Dynadot's system, which grants domain registrants more time for renewals.

Why not make it the default ?

Thank you @Dynadot

Please don't change this policy.

It may be an inconvenience for those trying to win a domain at auction, but the full grace period shows a registrar is fully committed to their original client.

Sure, it'd make Dynadot more money in expired auction revenue for them to limit the grace period. But more domain owners would lose their domain, without being allotted the full grace period to renew their domain without marked up (unregulated?) fees.

I'm sick of registrars like @namesilo and others trying to hold your domain hostage for a fee in lieu of allowing the customer the full grace renewal period.

You're not getting what I'm saying. It's very simple.
Allow full grace period and conduct the auction for the domains after the grace period then it'll be a win-win situation for both.

Scenario 1: The domain has more than 1 bids during a pre-order will be sent to an auction
Scenario 2: The domain has a single bid during a pre-order will be awarded to the bidder
Scenario 3: The domain didn't have a bid then will expire!
