The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
This idea has been rumbling around my head for some time, and glad someone took the step of seeing if there was interest.

I know that conferences have to not lose money, but would hope that it is a reasonable registration price.

Re location, I would see it as working best on some sort of rotating location with different countries in different years.

Would love to see it live streamed for those who can not attend, and maybe interactive video for some sessions.

I think a panel of respected people from community should guide the selection of speakers, topics, etc.

Would love to see key companies involved, but it should clearly be a NPs organized event independent of the registries, registrars, and other companies.

It might make sense to have it as a conference of conferences (all in same place and in times one after the other). e.g. with a segment (half day or something) on brandables, a segment on analysis of trends, one on practical techniques for negotiating and selling, one on legal aspects of domains, etc. People could choose which they attended.

Ideally the conference would heighten the profile and stature of domain investing. Having a TedX kind of event in conjunction with it, with some inspirational futuristic speakers would be good.

Awesome ideas Bob! My first recommendation would be for you to be an advisor, at minimum.

I don't unthank often, but considering it for your post :xf.wink: (just joking).

I think there are tons of great people who would have interest in helping. I think it would be good to have a mix of some of the builders of domains from way back and some newer to the field, and a balance from different countries. I wish women were more prominent on NPs, I know a few are, and we should be sure to have both genders, many cultures, different ages, full time and part time, etc. somehow represented in the voices that guide it, if it happens.

One huge advantage is it would start with such an active site (NPs) that I think inherently it could be much bigger than the conferences organized either by small groups or companies (not that I mean to replace those).

Absolutely, it should be a community effort. That is the appeal.

I'm already looking forward to the Live Auction. :xf.grin:

I would be happy with just a NP members meet up at a pub.

The meet up will be the closest thing there will ever be to an NP convention

The idea of convention is very nice, would be great to meet in person with many people here.

Just make sure you do something in Europe as well so I can travel easily as well, not everything needs to be in US, imo :)

I'm in the U.K so agree with this 100%

I think if there were to be a convention it should rotate between locations in North America, Europe, Asia and probably South America, Africa and Australia/NZ (it seems to me the first three have higher concentrations and should see more often).

By rotating every so often people would get one in their region, and the jet setters could attend no matter where it is.

I think though there should be a strong online component so that even those who can't attend in person could still feel somewhat part of the event.

Organizing conventions huge amount of work, and we should not under estimate what would be involved.

Should NamePros have their own convention?...

Let's call it New Pros and watch for the announcements ASAP.

Here’s an idea:

We turn this over to the community and help to support those efforts.

Members could start by running polls to find out where the most members want to meet (location) and when the most members want to meet in each location (date and time). Let us know about those polls, and we can increase visibility to them.

Once that information is available, we can help promote the meetups where members can meet in person and build professional relationships. Each meetup (location and date) would need to be managed by at least one community member who will be attending the meetup to help it go smoothly (e.g., confirm that the venue is open and has sufficient capacity).

That could be much bigger than any single group (e.g., NamePros staff) could accomplish on their own, and it would make it possible for significantly more meetups to take place each year around the globe.

What do you think?

Please go around the US annually,

and dont be stuck in one place too long like Namepros Las Vegas Granted Vegas awesom!

You can even go around the world!!
Dont be fixated in one place.
Here visit US east coast (think NC bias ignore)
NC bias 0/2 east, hope not 0/3 if they AZ.

Suggestions:
NY
NJ (Central, South closest to Philly if possible)
PA (Philadelphia)
DE Delaware
MA (Boston)

Somehow I missed this thread before. Great idea. I like the tedx style convention idea a lot. Would love to have something like that, EU based. Might be Amsterdam, might be Berlin. Get DAN involved.

I don't care for a monetary gain (live auctions and the sorts) but meeting up would be cool. Acquiring knowledge and get input from like-minded people would be my main objective.

Maybe now is not the ideal timing because of Corona but I definitely wouldn't mind participating and hosting a local (Dutch) convention. Could definitely see this work. Something to keep in mind for sure!

Corona, If anything?

gives Namepros more time to prepare.
