I have registered probably to many NGTLD's for a domain sales website. Which extension would work best out of these?

.digital
.direct
.media
.global
.shop
.store
.tech
.market
.domains
.club
.xyz

None of the above? Some other NGTLD extension? Yeah! I know use a .com. I am :) Just considering tbroadening my reach.

@3sixty - I actually like red.domains also. But I kinda overlooked it in my final selection. Also, I thank you for your observations.

Top 3:

Names • Market
Names • Cafe
Aftermarket • Domains

ps. I would have went w/ your .domains one as first pick (it's a pretty sweet pairing), except the word "aftermarket" doesn't have as broad a understanding for endusers as "names" would.

Som very sweet names there:)

You can go with names / market or names / boutique or aftermarket / domains - all sounds good.

Names / market is best of them imo, sounds very authoritative - seems to have some premium renewal around 120, but if that is not large cost for you, I would choose this one!

I've had names.market for a while. However the other 2 were just bought yesterday. names.cafe I bought in the open market, and aftermarket.domains was a fresh registration. I think names.market is the clear winner in this exercise. But I think there are some good choices in the other domains which made this shortlist. They all pretty much resounded to me on one level or another, except maybe domains.media. Which as @Kate said, .media (and a couple of other tlds) sounded more like traditional media companies rather than a domains for sale website. Which makes domains.media an odd pairing. It was included in this list as an example that there really aren't any relevant "domain(s)" domains available, unless you want to pay extortionate prices. Even from the Registries.

The only reservation about names.market is that it's good enough to market all TLD's not just NGTLD's. If that is a drawback :) I was specifically looking for a domain which would be used to only market NGTLD's. Where some of the more brandable domains might have been more appropriate, like red.domains, names.cafe, names.boutique. But I am happy to use an over qualified domain to sell my meagre (at the moment) collection of NGTLD's :)

Yep. I agree with you. I think on the whole, the premium renewal, is about as high as I feel comfortable with. I think you only need to sell 1 domain/yr to recover that cost. So it depends on whether you are a pessimist or an optimist :). I think you need to be an optimist when starting out on ANY new venture :) If you are a pessimist, then you never start. So I'm happy to start with a premium domain name :)

Apart from domain(s) domains, I also had a hard time finding any relevant store/shop domains. Which was why there were none of them in my final list. I have some, but they didn't make the final cut.

You already know what you need to do from experience but since you are asking for an opinion maybe just for validation, here's mine.

Personally if i had a strong keyword like Domain or Domains on the left of the dot that made sense or a fantastic combination with the extension on the right I might use it. Otherwise I would go with .Domains extension and still attach a strong keyword on the left that goes very well with the Domains extension.

I would also register this ngtld left and right of the dot combination in the .com version. If the .com version of this ngtld combination was not available I would not register this ngtld combination as i would be leaking traffic to the .com version.

I would use one of these and redirect to the other so that my marketing efforts don't go waste if i'm going to market this website in any way.

Also, it makes sense to have both since many users are still not familiar with the newer domain extensions ( although they may be aware that certain new extensions exist but they might not be familiar with all).

So concluding I would only register something in ngtld if i can have it's com version as well, otherwise not.

^ tough, because any good pairings with nG's would have been registered long ago in the .com equivalent. The rationale makes sense due to bleed, but basing on whether or not to use the nG on whether or not you can have it in .com really limits your options in many cases. Don't forget there are many sites out there that use dot-com,org,net or even ccTLD that are not related to each other but the same name., so how do they stop the bleed? Because they build on what's specific to their brand. Also, you'll find in many cases particularly with .domains extension it's dot-com equivalent is usually not even being used, so really nothing to worry about.

@TheDnSeller - I understand your logic, but that doesn't mean I agree with you. The purpose of this thread was to find a NGTLD for selling NGTLD's. Call me crazy, if you like. But I think trying to sell NGTLD's from a COM domain is a little bit inappropriate. IMHO. And as @HotKey has mentioned, any half decent keyword domain in .com is probably gone 10-20 years ago. This story is repeating itself in the NGTLD's from my experience in this thread. So trying to find a decent keyword COM and NGLTD with the same left of the dot, is nigh on impossible. IMHO. However. You can still find some half-decent to decent left of the dot in NGTLD's. but all the best keyword domains have all gone already. Unless you are prepared to pay the Registries $2k and up with regular renewals.

yes that might be the case. I'm not so up to date with ngtld's. It does make sense to run a website selling ngtld's on a ngtld. If you selling ngtld's don't run a website on a ngtld, how would you ever convince your buyer's to buy one ? So perfectly valid reason to run one on a ngtld but if i could i would also buy it's .com version and then point the .com to the ngtld website adding even more conviction by telling people that even though you had the option to run it on a .com but you prefer to run it on a ngtld. It gives prospective buyers more conviction in using ngtld's and that businesses could be run on ngtld;s.

Ha Ha! A humorous idea. Forwarding the .com to the ngtld and telling customers you prefer to run it that way around as a marketing ploy. But we still have to face the fact that getting identical left of the dots, even in reasonable even half-decent keywords, is probably going to cost you a ton of money upfront. I think I have found a reasonably good solution with names.market, which I could never afford in the .com. So we need to be flexible with our thinking and decisions.

I agree. I am not in your situation so I have no personal experience if it was even remotely possible to get hold of a .com version of a decent new tld combination.

So probably you are doing what is best available and good for you in the current situation.

IMHO I really can’t see namesmarket.com to be worth that much.... the s really kills the domain name.... it comes off very poorly... “names market” doesn’t sound right. But when you put “names dot market” it sounds 100% better.

I like .market or .direct

But tbh, if it's an ngtld, then I'd pick one with a really low renewal.
looksl ike they raised the renewal and reggae prices for .men and .stream and .review.. they used to be like $7.5 to renew for 10 years sigh.

but i would just pick something low like that :).

cuz domain.stream isn't bad at all for a domain sales website!

@Jv1999 - Which registrars had renewal for 10 years at $7.50, (or is that $75.00/10years?) Domain is taken in all but a handful of registries, according to Uni. None of which I would want to run a serious aftermarket from. 6 of the 18 available were 3rd tier domains. None of the 3 registries you mentioned had domain.men/stream/review available. domain.shoes was the closest to what you were suggesting at reg $17.88, renewal at $39.90. But really. None of the 2nd level domains were anything I would want to run an NGTLD marketplace from. I'm not saying you couldn't run a marketplace from them. But you would a huge problem with credibility. IMHO.
