information Avoid.com Sells for $117,500

Spaceship Spaceship
Yesterday, we noticed the domain name Avoid.com entered into Escrow.com's holding account. This usually confirms that the domain name has been sold.

This morning, we have received confirmation from the seller that Avoid.com had indeed been sold for $117,500.

This one-word .COM was sold by Nametra.com, who own around 1,000 domain names in their portfolio.

At the moment, it is unclear who the buyer is, but given the fact that this is a six figure sale, it is likely to be an end user sale.

The sale of Avoid.com for $117,500 would* place it as the seventh largest domain sale of this year at DNJournal, just behind the $125,000 sale of Emeralds.com.

Congratulations to Nametra.com on this sale, and thanks to DomainIQ for alerting us to the sale.

*Update: DNJournal confirms the sale, but it cannot be charted since the domain is being paid in instalments.

So if this is the 7th largest sale this year the 75k it tells you a lot of domains are overpriced.

I think the whole industry would be better off if everyone stuck to under 5k.
I find I can easily get that from a business and I have paid it myself.

I can understand one word .coms getting that but everyone else has to learn when to let go. It seems every time I talk to someone I get a quote for 75k and in some cases the owner has had the domain for over 10 years. I was turned down with a solid 15k offer for a regional .ca

Tsk Tsk, that guy will have to hold it another 10 years and may never get a better offer.

"DNJournal confirms the sale, but it cannot be charted since the domain is being paid in instalments." Most bigger deals are paid over time in payments. It still sold for the amount noted, so no reason it can't be charted IMO. If the deal isn't completed, it can be noted that way later. It still sold for that amount and the payments are being made.

Three years ago, on a whim, I sold a domain name for just under $4K. I was using it as my business name. The business was dissolving so the timing was great. Thinking domain name sales were easy, I bought about 50 new names immediately after & have been sitting on them since. I have only randomly been contacted once with a low offer on a name - so I declined. I wish I would have known about this site 3 years ago. Oh well, let's see what happens.

Emeralds.com price surprises me. But then maybe emeralds are only one part of a jewelry site, the ideal end user.

Avoid as a word is tricky, a negative one. If it was Join or something

I can't edit my post for some reason so: a lot of domain name sales are not published. Most people have no interest in reporting a sale, unlike brokers and professional domainers that like to tout their own horn.

Surprised to see decent lll.com at 20k range on YTD sales list

Not a very good sale as one word .com worth more . I think 4tld .com .org .net and .info with one word have very good value

Hi Guys

Just to confirm that I was behind the purchase of the domain name. I'm and end user on this one and have bought it for a project I want to develop. If you forgive me I don't really want to go into why the name was purchased or for what use. It's going to compliment Avoid.co.uk and Avoid.uk which I already own.

My colleague did a deal with Nametra and hammered out the details over a month or so, bought it through my company Guard International Ltd - although the company name won't give a signal to what the name is to be used for - I promise. It's just been bought that way for tax reasons.

First .com purchase (y)

My main site is over at GreyWing Dot UK and there are a few more details in our blog. Aim is to get the name paid off in the next few months if the exchange rate from the UK picks up (n)

I was thinking back to this and how much detail I should go into about me buying this name as I've been after it for a while - but it is a forum and forums have helped me in the past, others might get a bit of insight into it so what the hell here goes.

So I probably first reached out to the seller back in 2012-13, he offered to sell at about $60-$70k if memory serves me correctly. I didn't have the money at the time and was only offering around $35k'ish I think. 4-5 years later and here I am paying $117,500 but I'm not unhappy - genuinely not, even though with the exchange rate of the pound sterling bottoming out I'm paying £100,000 UK rather than what might have been £40,000 UK back then if I'd bought at his price.

The seller was obviously right to hold on, it worked out well for him and he got the price he wanted. It actually worked out well for me too because I put that £40,000 UK that I would have paid at the time into other projects and domain names. Those projects have hit big and now money isn't as massive an issue as it was back then. If I'd bought at £40,000 I wouldn't have had a penny to develop it or other projects back then whereas now I do. Or I might have had to go out and try to get investment from someone and give up a % of the project.

It is strange but one of those weird times when the deal not going through actually worked out well for everyone, even though I'm paying a lot more in cash terms but now a lot less in the percentage of funds I have available - if that makes sense.

I guess just because deals don't go through it doesn't mean it's a good or bad thing, it tends to change with hindsight and hindsight itself isn't set, it keeps changing every day.

Hey guys, just wanted to confirm that this one has now completed in full. Took longer than we wanted but we completed the deal with Escrow and it's all gone through fine. Big thanks to Andy (seller) and the great service from Escrow.com
