The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
How exactly are you checking if they are banned?

If it's not indexed by google doesn't means it is banned. It simply means the owner didn't submitted the website to google console.

Yeah, for the end user, the banned domain has no value at all (unless the buyer knows other ways to drive traffic and make money without living on mercy of google). But I have seen some blacklisted domains selling for 4 figures on platforms like DropCatch etc.

A domainer with ethics would avoid hoarding and selling these kinds of domains. But a practical domainer would sell them anyway, leaving all these background checks to the end users' common sense and knowledge of common domain acquisition practices.

You actually can not check if a domain is banned. You can only know it when the domain is yours and you add it to WMT (console) and then Google tells you why the domain is not indexed.

There might be a ban or sanction or penalty of some kind, and then they are telling you the exact way to fix it. If it's because of a thin content, they suggest you to improve the site content; If it's because of bad backlinks, they suggest you to disavow those links; If it's because of bad site security, they suggest you to fix the security.

But there might be not. There are tons of reasons why a domain is not indexed, besides of penalties. For example, there was never a real site on this domain, hence nothing to index. Another common reason, is when the domain has dropped or the site was abandoned years ago and was laying there idle with no any site on it, so it's just fell out off index. Etc. etc.

If it's not indexed by google doesn't means it is banned. It simply means the owner didn't submitted the website to google console.

If you have no clue, it's better not to speak. When one seeks for advice, he wants it from someone who knows. Ignorant answers don't help, instead they mislead people.

for the end user, the banned domain has no value at all

Another bullshit. Sorry, i risk getting another warning from the admins, but i always call bullshit bullshit.

When i as an end user buy domain, i don't give a damn if it's banned or not. Because i will build totally new site on it. If the site doesn't jump to index soon, i look into my WMT, and if there is a penalty of any kind, i file for reconsideration. In which i say: "look Google, i'm the new owner and i have no idea what the previous owners did with this domain and site, and can not be responsible for that. So let me fix the needed errors, and then please take the site to index." For my 10+ years of SEO, i haven't seen a single case when Google did not grant it.

Of course, if you know SEO only by shitty tutorials for PBN builders, then that's right, you can't take banned domain for PBN, because you can't send shitty PBN site for reconsideration. But the OP asked about premium domains which i assume are for the end users.

I recommend to check with Google webmaster tools to see if there are any security issues.

Good response, no need for the 'bullshit' but the information was helpful to know for me too. Thanks!

  1. What are you seeing that indicates the domains are banned?
  2. If they're truly banned, you're almost certainly doing something you shouldn't be doing.

i bought domain just two days back and checked its ban so i have not done anything with domain maybe previous owner?
question is if its ban then it has no value?
suppose if the domain is Reply.com and if its penalize by google so it has no value?
or if its business.com and if its penalized so that will have no resell value...
this is my concern...

I always found it interesting that amazing domains like Cars.com and Insurance.com both show up in any Fail List checker as Banned! Not sure what happened to create that situation, but I think either of those names would sell in heart beat for big bucks.
