Yesterday I requested on my Twitter stream thoughts on how to stay positive when there is a long period between sales with little activity. I am hoping to do a future blog post on this topic, and want to present ideas from a number of different perspectives. While several good suggestions have already been made there, I know many on NPs are not on Twitter (and some who are don't follow me :xf.cry:) so I wanted to seek ideas here too.

Unless you tell me differently, I will assume that I can mention in my blog post ideas that you post with a credit like "As NPs user xyz put it '/.......'' If that is not the case, please so indicate.

I look forward to using suggestions re what you do when there is a long time between sales, how you deal with it emotionally, what you do in that time, etc.

Thanks so much! Look forward to your input, whether you are newish to domaining, or one of those 10* long term domain investors. We can all learn from each other!

Bob

(ps After the project is done I will post in this thread a summary of the main ideas, and a link to the full post)

One of the ways i personally follow to stay positive is by developing few of my domains into micro niche blogs. Developing a domain is like raising a child and you have to work on it on daily basis and feel the pleasure of seeing it grow with time.

Further a developed portal is always an asset and provides a fixed source of revenue on monthly basis which is a great source of motivation during low sale period.

The last sale I had that I’d consider significant was back in January so I understand completely. I keep positive by reading about sales here at NamePros and Name Bio and there’s comfort in knowing I have lots of similar domains to those that sell. I also buy and register domains in between sales while deciding what to keep/drop. Lately I’ve begun using other places to list domains versus just Sedo, who I’ve used for years. I really like Brand Bucket now but haven’t sold anything there YET.

Good ideas, @E-Thunder. The only way I differ is that I try to find distractions to keep me from buying MORE domains while I figure out if this enterprise is going to work.

Good topic @MetBob; thanks for starting this thread.

Invest IMO , and build up more leverage, I had a very unexpected sale in August, I have half of the money split, 1/2 in buying domain name inventory , and 1/2 for a up and coming development site.

I figure i will go a good while before making another sale, I don't do any outbound, only inbound, so i will be working on the site development, and sweetening up my domain name vault a bit.

Working towards having as many domains as needed for a sale per few hours so that I don't have to really wait :-D

I'm always positive in my outlook (y)

Sales are nice, but as long as I'm investing expendable income it is not the be all and end all for me personally.

Don't get me wrong I'm always examining current sales, trends and other verticals to improve but this has always been a hobby not a full time occupation so nothing for me to fret about.

I would reiterate whats been previously posted - good thread topic @MetBob

Curious why you really like BrandBucket now even though you have never had a sale there.

I drink plenty of vodka and chase loose woman....

Seriously, keep a positive mind set, "My next sale going to be my biggest yet" , and put in the effort to make that happen!

I focus on adding quality domains and let the sales happen organically. I personally do zero outbound and figure if a serious buyer comes along then I focus on the sale, otherwise the focus goes into adding quality inventory.

Just keep your eyes on the ball , focus and keep your eyes on the ball.
Have a clear goal and move towards it with every sale.
If u dont make sales , just work harder .

Since I am human and not a robot..whenever I kind of feel negative about my domain portfolio (will I ever sell them..kind of thinking)...I go to my "man cave" and crank up one of my favorite hard rock motivational songs..

"If you think I'll sit around as the world goes by
You're thinking like a fool 'cause it's a case of do or die.
Out there is a fortune waiting to be had
If you think I'll let it go you're mad
You've got another thing coming
."

It's an interesting question and large part of the best answer, imo, can be found in the question.

Psychologically, the way I look at "volume" domaining is:

There are two types of time:

Time A - Sales time

Sales are going well. You can't complain, You are actively chasing drops and buying. While sipping your favorite morning coffee, another sale comes in. Good times!

Time B - Dry time

The inevitable rough patch. Nada on the sales front. You're questioning the wisdom of buying that new coffee machine. When will it end? Bad times!

+++++
So Time A is defined by Time B. You can't have the joy of Time A without the pain of Time B. One defines the other.

So if you're in Time B - it does not mean that Time A won't happen again. You need Time B to make Time A so enjoyable.

C'est la vie, mon amis!

If you do decide to quote me..please leave out the "super handsome, extremely smart " namepros member briguy...that is kinda of stating the obvious! Just mentioning "briguy" should get you tons of traffic (even if I have to pay for it myself) !!!

Seriously, (whether I am quoted or not) love to read the finished article!

Why no one said about an article?

I would have written a much better post here :(

Thanks for all that, and just to confirm it is certainly not too late to add your two cents worth (or revise what you wrote in a new contribution))! We have visitors coming for Thanksgiving weekend coming up here in Canada, so suspect will be well into next week before I seriously work on the post. I balance about 10 works in progress at any one time, so it will be a little while even after I begin working on it before it finds its way into my blog.

Just to clarify, I plan to take elements from different posts, but they will not be quoted directly. I do plan to indicated the source of each idea with your NPs (or Twitter) handle, unless you have told me not to.

Yes, I think everyone pretty well knows that everyone on NamePros is brilliant, handsome/pretty, smart, wise, witty, clever, intelligent, etc. so like you say no need to state obvious :xf.wink:

Thanks again everyone.

Staying Positive Between Sales:

-Reading some clever books (business and of any other helpful topic).

-Analyzing former sales (both succesful and unsuccesful).

-Less food = better health and working/life energy = less expense (improving my diet to be healthier and at the same time less expensive).

-Searching for or doing on some other sources of profit.

-Searching for help of some knowledgeable people who have specific skills which I need to learn (including paid skype mentoring sessions).

-Working more - sometimes yes, but sometimes this is not the best option in order to improve.

-Working less, meditating and relaxing more waiting for solutions to come by their own (again, not a joke! :) ).

-Analyzing and improving my working and life space, to allow more Money Energy (more sales) to come to me (Chinese Feng Shui and Indian Vastu are helpful here).
...
etc. :)
