Hey guys and gals,

Be forewarned about this account. He tried to hussle 50$ from my broke ass by implying he had found me an 8k deal on one of my domains.

He insisted on receiving 50$ before making the deal. After I suggested on giving him 2k as a finders fee once the deal closed considering I've never had a deal that big he insisted I give him 30$ beforehand.

I reported him and proceeded to tell him good luck succeeding with your reported account and he did not answer back.

Be weary fellow domainers. If it seems too good to be true it probably is.

Hi Eric,

I just added you! Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully we can keep him from trying to do this to anyone else.

Jeepers, thanks for sharing. Surprised how blatant his con was. Did he really think someone is stupid enough to just handover money that easily? :banghead:
 bye bye don

I have no inside information on either side of this. I personally would not have entered into the agreement, but nor would I have even thought about rushing out and shouting scam publicly. The industry is full of cases where up front fees are part of agreements. They show seriousness, help establish contractual relationships, and help defray costs for services. We pay them to list on some auction sites, pay them for brandable listings, etc. I have never worked with a broker, but would not be surprised if many asked a small up front fee. If you don't want to pay them, you don't work with that service.

Now it is totally right we should all be cautious of someone who has a limited (it appears) track record finding a 4 figure sale immediately for a name that possibly warrants it but possibly not. However, for someone to act as a broker surely asking $30 up front and then 15% of the proceeds after transfer is complete is not enough to warrant being called a scammer in public by someone who has just joined NPs? If I was the OP here rather than go ballistic and say they had reported the person and then start this thread, I would have suggested an alternative, like a third party that would hold the fee and the terms that it is paid.

I would feel differently if money was paid then person disappeared. I am OK with general advice to be very cautious ever paying up front for anything. I am not OK with this thread.

I continue to feel that when we jump to conclusions and immediately go public if we feel suspicious we hurt our industry. Yes, be cautious. When clear evidence, yes share concerns. But let's say you were the broker. Would you agree to have $0 until after the sale was complete and transfer done? Maybe. Maybe not.

JMHO,

Bob

This is a very fair statement! Had I had more knowledge of escrow and such holding services I would have played it much differently.

I do, however, believe that just by his temperament alone concerning my offer that there's no way this deal would have ended in any positive results on my end.

If I'm wrong, then I'm out a good chunk of change. But if I'm right, then I saved myself and possibly some other new members a great deal of disappointment.

Also, every broker I have spoken with thus far (roughly 10-15) have never asked for money up front so I immediately thought that was a little unjustifiable.

Here is a brief posting from one of the brokerage firms saying their firm does work commission only, but some have non-refundable fees:

https://www.quora.com/How-much-comm...s-usually-make-during-acquisition-of-a-domain

I certainly don't dispute your statement that most do not charge an up front fee.

I am not in any way saying you should not have been cautious, and as I posted, I would not have paid myself. I stand firm in saying that, based on the exchange, to jump to naming the person and calling it a scam in the title was unjustified. If you wanted to start a thread saying be cautious of paying any up front fees, fine (although that warning has already been stated many times on NPs).

Still waiting for "Don" to explain himself. Personally, I DO NOT believe he found a buyer for the OP's domain. "Don" has zero track record and seems desperate for help at every post. How the hell would he have found a $8k buyer if he can't even figure out how to buy one good domain and seems to know nothing about the business ?

Until "Don" explains himself in a way that makes sense and provides more details to the OP, I am calling "shenanigans" on this and would tell everyone else to avoid "Don" until he clears this up.

Update: There does not appear to be a binding purchase agreement in the direct message. I see a lot of negotiating, some red warning flags, and a termination of negotiation.

For the sake of mediation, I have to mention the following, even though I'm sure the buyer is aware: In the event a member takes money from another (Even $1) and does not deliver their part of an agreement, it is considered a form of theft/fraud and becomes a very serious matter.

With that said, no rule violation has been detected at this time since we are unable to confirm the legitimacy of the screenshot or 3rd party buyer.

However, due to the nature of the event, we will be monitoring and investigating some account activities, just to be sure.

Sorry this didn't work out for either of you.

Have a great day,

Maybe he's just a really farfetched broker.
Like he strongly believed your domain was good.
And he thought he was going to find a buyer.
He said ''if the buyer agrees, the fee is 50$ before and 15% after''.
What I'm reading is maybe he would have refunded you if the deal didn't go trough.
Maybe he was just a noob trying to start a broker/outbound business.
Maybe he was just a farfetched broker.

This pretend broker could have just setup a 3 way Escrow transaction... no need for $50 PayPal beforehand.
1st red flag right there.

WTF is a "farfetched broker" ? :xf.confused:
Please tell me you were being sarcastic.

I hope you dont have to do business with REAL people in the REAL world.

Maybe he saw the thread with the guy that's never helping anyone again after a hard day's work LOL

@ImperiousDon did respond but his respond had a variation of the n word and was probably reported.

Basically he laughed and made a not wise choice of words.

Well according to your post count both you and the OP are beginners.

Hopefully experience will help you guys actually consummate a future sale.

Good luck to you (y)

I'd like to know what broker is making 8k "take it or leave it" offer for increaseyouraudience.com

Trust me. When you ask what someone's domain name is and magically come up with the perfect seller for a price point that is out of this world not even 5 minutes after just discovering what the name is.... there's something wrong.

He even included a 6 or 7 sentence email from this "bill" character in that time frame.

From having knowledge of the actual name of my domain to giving me this offer there was maybe a span of 5 minutes. There's no way his "childhood friend" just happened to want a domain name for YouTube 3-5 minutes after he even knew my domain name was directed at that type of audience.

Everything just does not line up and I almost wish I would have sent him the 50$ just so more could have been done against him :P

LOL, on September 23 (two weeks ago) you wrote this:
"I started domaining two months ago , and I bought my first domain using Godaddy , ofc my first domain was a failure : Quicksellout.com - damn I cant find nobody to buy it for 5$ lol "

Just admit you don't know what your are doing and you are a beginner. Better to be honest and not try to scam people.

Wow, I did not see this:

"I know my first domain is worthless but if just somebody would buy it for 20$ , so I can buy a new one..."

Pretty sad.

If anyone else got a "broker" offer from this guy, I hope they post it here.
He's officially BS.
