I put in a bid today for 100k on a domain and this is the second time I have done that. I thought I would go in big to make sure I have a chance but there are a lot of bigger players in that field than me.

In all my years of domaining I hardly ever get really passionate about a domain unless it fits my business motto to a " T "

Funny how some domains will evoke enough passion from me to part with that kind of cash. I've been fortunate in my business dealings that I can do that and not worry about hanging on to them for a while if required.

So I have a question for my fellow domainers...

1. Have you ever offered 100k or 100k plus ?

2. What was the domain you offered it on ?

Be truthful or I will send @Grilled after you :xf.laugh: :xf.laugh: :xf.laugh:

I'll offer $100k for any NNN.COM or LL.COM :)

You would be wise to form an investor group on here, and setup a corporate structure to go after it, I don't think $100K would be enough, but once you have that it is basically the holy grail of your Maple collection.

I don't need a group, I could come in for a much higher offer if I wanted but to spend that money I would have to be an end user. Besides my holy grail would be Maple.com and I would go much higher if I thought I had a chance to get it. Maple can be used as a business name. Canada.com is regional and I can see it as it is being used right now which is a news site but how do you market it as a business name? What if the company gets big and expands to the States? I would never regionalize my company like that. Maple is Canada but it also has meaning outside our borders so therefore I think Maple.com has a higher value than Canada.com.

I have dreamed of bidding or offering 100k for a domain name.

Get em MapleDots, I hope you get your domain name! :)

Upon reflection, I did put in a higher offer so unless it's a big company I don't think anyone will go higher than my latest offer.

Both are beautiful domain names, I really like Maple.com as a business brand name, the uses are many-many. Canada.com is a beauty though, a last name here in the states, and could make millions as a travel - tourist site IMO

So the question is.... have you actually offered for a domain and which domain?

I find it hard to believe there are not more domainers on namepros that have offered 100k for a top line domain when it became available.

CANADA.COM
Canada.com, featuring discussions about what Canadians are talking about, is owned and operated by Postmedia Network Inc., Canada’s largest publisher by circulation of paid English-language daily newspapers. canada.com complements Postmedia’s other properties including daily newspapers in cities across Canada like the Vancouver Sun, The Province, the Calgary Herald, the Edmonton Journal, the Ottawa Citizen and the National Post, as well as more than 50 destination websites.

For any feedback or questions please email [email protected].

Also, based on Alexa, it seems it gets around 150,000 unique visitors per month, probably 75% Canada and USA.

So, a) it is a big media company that wouldn't be interested in low 6 figures and will probably sell for 7 figures, maybe very high 6.

b) It has considerable western traffic that can be grown and monetized and probably already brings around $50000-$100000 revenue per year.

And, comparing Maple.com to Canada.com, I believe Canada has higher potential. Yes, Maple can be branded into anything, but Canada is a brand in a box for news, travel, business pages etc.

They don't own the domain, I think their lease is up or something, in fact if you check they are actually using o.canada.com

I don't think they are interested at the price it's going for, the broker mentioned they made an offer which was too low.

Personally I don't believe they have any million dollar offers on the table.

Being for sale is not the same as being up for auction. If the owner, be it the publisher or whoever is leasing to them, expects 7 figures, especially now that the domain is top 100K Alexa name, they won't simply sell to the highest bidder.

Personally, I believe, for someone with the funds, a top 100K domain, which happens to be such a beauty, is easily worth $1MM at least.

I do agree with you but million dollar domain sales are a scarce thing and even more scarce in Canada.

I did raise my offer to 250k but that is it, they have declined and from here on I am on the sideline like everyone else.

It was fun dreaming I could own this domain but alas it's probably for the best because I can put those funds to use buying up other names.

I wouldn't bid but would private offer 100k low ball on up to for exact keyword something fantastic to be the end user. I am not a 100k spender I just expect that for mine. lol

I never did this because I do not have that kind of money...
I have a loan on my house that costs ~$50k :( ... so no, I am not there yet.

Maybe it's just me but how could anyone think visitCanada in com is better than Canada in com? imo the tourism industry chose to settle with the prefix visit because the pure geo was not an option for them.

There is No chance that they will sell for $250,000 or Even $500,000. $1 Million? Maybe.
Just Check out the Traffic value, Anyone can make 5-10% Of That Value monthly without much hassle.
