Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on where they have the best luck selling domains. If you have a spot that has been working for you and selling a lot of domains what spot is it?

Also I would like to hear from fellow domainers if you see more value at posting different types of domains at different sale sites or if you guys think it’s the same value every where you would post?

Example: if I have a numbered domain is it better to post it at a particular venue? Or I’m going to get the same value as I do from Afternic as I do from Go Daddy as I do from Sedo? Or are there more customers searching for certain domains at certain venues? If you believe this to be true What venue have you seen certain types of domains to sell at a higher price at or do you believe this to be false.

Or in general have you just had the most success at at certain venue?

With NamePros being the largest and most active domain investors community (With a marketplace section), it makes sense to list it here.

As for other venues, some believe that multiple listings = more eyeballs or different niche audience eyeballs, which can work out great if you are pitching an asset in that niche market.

Others believe that it's harder to manage multiple listings to keep them all updated or closed/unlisted when they need to be, causing you to work much harder than you should have to be for the return and causing issues down the road when a new owner finds out the domain is still listed for sale in other places, which were not closed/unlisted by the seller.

The eyeballs you get at any venue is restricted to the inner core of the platform and organic viewers from search engines that typed in a relative term used in your listing.

Realistically, if someone types your domain in a search engine they will find it's landing/sales page (If it was optimized right) or a sales listing that's favored by the search engines algorithm. Rarely will it take them straight to the marketplace venue listing itself without going through a doorway page somewhere first.

Unless it's a forum marketplace, in which case the odds of a single click to get to a sales listing is greater. Couple that with linking your landing/doorway/sales page to that single venue listing and you have optimized your chances of more targeted eyeballs on your listing

When you really think about it. It might make sense to dedicate to one listing venue and then spend your time on promoting the listing with the time you saved from having to keep updating multiple venue listings all the time.

To each there own though. Everyone has a strategy that works for them. The above is just my opinion.

Namepros has without a doubt a very active domain investor community, but if you only list it here, domain investors will be the only buyers. I wouldn't count on too many end consumers, who have no idea what domaining is, buying a domain from a forum. So you will be losing some potential buyers.

I believe this to be true as well. That is kind of the idea behind the "post". I want to make 100% clear I am not knocking NamePros by any means and it is more my fault, I could have published that in my first text( I am looking for more end buyers or the most profit from the sale) It is not a bad thing at all to have mostly investors, whole salers, etc.. If you can make some quick easy money, that is the way to go.

For me, I think I hold onto domains and look at them as a commodity and once I sell it, there is never going to be another domain like that again so in my mind I want the very most I can get out of it because there will not be another like it again.

In my opinion NamePros is a great place to learn..but not so much to earn !

Here you will see other domainers so you find it hard to get a promising pay for your domains...even if your domain is good... I saw very few times in 4 digit bidding...the occasion is 3/4 letter auction...

I searched NameBio stats 2 days ago ..for almost all extensions...my thinking was to see what is the selling price range and platform for any given extension...

I can conclude without a doubt that most TLDs...and other extensions are sold at SEDO...

Keep in mind these stats are related to reported/uploaded data...and some extensions have sales data of less than 10...so all this can not be perfect assessment...

But it gives clear idea where to (try) to sell...

He says he still waiting for deal of all time...
May be that means he is not hanging on one number to get a buyer...and quickly trading without big expectations...
May be it's his motto to go on a spree thinking best yet to come..😀

This is a superb thread and all replies have made logical points. We all know that a fair amount of sales are to other domain investors, and as @Eric Lyon points out NPs is the largest forum with a marketplace, and without fees, people should list here (note to self: do that!)

While NameBio stats certainly show the strength of Sedo in both handling a lot of domains and getting good prices, if you were looking mainly to sell to end users, and had quality domains for sale, IF you only want to list one place, I think they are it, in general. Early on in my intensive domain phase (i.e. when started actively selling a bit over a year ago) I played The Domain Game a lot. I was terrible at first, but gradually learned that as well as the name knowing the venue helped me more accurately predict prices. So venue matters.

It is important though to realize that some of the major players like Afternic and Undeveloped do not report to NameBio (unless seller/buyer does) so really hard to evaluate where most names are really selling and what price levels for comparable names are at those venues.

The Afternic premium has so many eyes in theory, but does that really help sell? Seem mixed feelings re that.

I personally think the complexity of having things listed several prices is warranted for at least some domain names.

If you sell at the low price end (and even in .com if you look at the median price it is pretty low), then some of the options take a big chunk out in commission. The fixed 9%-10% of Undeveloped and some of the registrar marketplaces are the places for at least these domains in my opinion.

I do feel that certain types of domain names though sell better in certain venues (and NameBio supports this). I wonder if the success of sites like Park.io that concentrate on a few extensions will be replicated. For example, a site that handled mainly .app would make sense and make it easier for app developers, but currently sales level can't support a site (5 sales so far on NameBio). The brandables have gone this route with 5 or so main places it seems. Rather than by extension, marketplaces that concentrated in a few areas might be end user friendly. For example, a site devoted to biotechnology and closely related areas, would have relevant com/net/org but also biotechnology io/co etc, the main country codes, and the new extensions that made sense for that like bio/science/eco etc. But not sure that the numbers yet make sense for that degree of specialization.

One issue that I am not clear on is where should western sellers try to sell .top. The domain is mainly being used in China, and most sales, admittedly registry dominated, are there. Are there better venues to reach these potential purchasers?

Beware that the sales on NP are usually to investors - who are themselves considering on reselling to end consumers. So yes, you might can more visibility but you are selling at wholesale prices and not at end-user prices.

If you want the big $$$$ you have to look for the end users (or get lucky)

Thanks for message and suggestions. But JiangsuBangning is the TOP registry - others can't sell through them? Or am I wrong and there is a way?

Can western domain owners sell through Alibaba Cloud does anyone know? It seems another big seller on .top. Or do you need to be registered through them?

If you read the fine print your really only ever supposed to use one marketplace at a time. That said many here will tell you different but it is all in the details.

Keep in mind that not all/not many marketplaces are listed on sales reporting sites like NameBio, so the data is incomplete until you compare other venues sales. It does give a general idea on sales potential but it in no way can serve as a marketplace deciding factor due to missing data sources. ;)

Yes...of course the main point is to get a general idea...we can not get exact figures..

This general idea can be a deciding factor in some gTLDs and ccTLDs...
because of their limited number of sales and also their unique usage...like giving a meaningful word pairs and domain hacks!
The any reported data from these will be great info to decide where to sell..

Not if you're missing data from other marketplaces. There are a lot of big sales that never get reported at sales history sites from other marketplaces for assorted extensions. Without data from those venues as well, you won't ever really know if something sold for more at the places you have no data for.

History sites do give a general idea, I agree. But don't choose a venue based on incomplete data. Just like, one shouldn't invest in a domain without researching and understanding the niche first, resulting in better resale potential and presentations. :)

You absolutely should have your domains listed everywhere. If you can't keep up with your listings you probably shouldn't be a domain investor.

You want as many eyeballs possible to potentially see your name in what is one of the most illiquid businesses in the history of business.

You want to learn the MLS systems at Sedo and Afternic, you want exposure on GoDaddy because to most people outside of domaining they trust GoDaddy and some even equate GoDaddy = Domains. The first time I was at a party and someone said what do you do? And I said I buy and sell domain names, the person said oh GoDaddy, I thought it was funny. The second time someone said sort of the same thing I was like wow so this whole GoDaddy = Domains is a thing.

The bottom line GoDaddy, Sedo and Afternic are selling more names than any other marketplace so you need to be there.

• do lot of research before jumping in
• decide what to purchase as a outcome of thorough research
• don't conclude based on available data... because majority portion of sales are not being reported.
• put your domain to reach as many people as you can through multiple platforms.
