Although I have been a domain investor since 2009, I have never met another domainer in person.

All my interaction with domainers has been online. What’s your experience in this rehard? Your votes and comments are appropriated.

As at Wed, July 11, 2018 I have not met another domainer in person. Hoping that will change.

I work for a high-end domainer and my office is next-door to one of the most legendary persons in the history of the domain industry. Both are very cool.

I was somewhat surprised that, as of right now, the significant majority who voted have not met another domainer! (totally the no and the not yet votes).

I think some of us who do this very part time find the cost to travel to and attend a major conference outside our budget, as valuable as such experiences are. I wonder if there is a place for a series of very localized domain investing meetings that would draw together those from a certain area in person, along with a selection of others who would "attend" electronically through Google Hangouts or similar technology.

Of course what we really need is not just domain investors to meet, but meetings that bring us in contact with branding, marketing, startup, etc. leaders in the area. I realize these things are much harder to organize than to describe.

I don’t really feel comfortable since my owner stays pretty anonymous.

Hint on who our office is next to...
He sold his company in 2008 to Thought Convergence.

If one wants to truly learn the ins and outs of domaining, meeting and networking in person is by far the best way to do so. I've been to many Domainer Meetups, DomainFest's, Namescon's etc. and have met many domainers. I have established many good domainer friends, relationships and acquaintances from such. The tips, stories, deals etc that can come about from talking face to face; that can be overheard; that are being shared with those there; etc. etc., can be an immeasurable asset as a domainer. I understand some live where it's just not easy to do so, but if one can, they should try to make it to at least one of the now many conferences where it's feasible. I say it's worth it.

Not yet, many sit downs with developers who clearly despised what i was doing. Thought we were all on the same team, lol. I've never really reached out to domainers. Maybe when domainnamesales.com opened up shop and they rejected my names, I've since got an email or two inviting me in.:-D Would love to shoot the shit with many of you.

I've had the privilege of meeting some of the finest and most successful domain investors in our industry. I attribute that to being a member of NamePros since 2009, participating in multiple domain related discussions here over the years, Scheduling one on one meet-ups with other domain investors and developers when we travel across the country, attending some of the domain related conferences over the years (E.g. T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West, NamesCon, DnHouston, Etc.), and breaking out of my introverted shell from time to time to join the rest of the extroverted world.

Believe it or not, the majority of what some might call the "Big hitters", "Whales", or "Pros" are very nice, receptive, and friendly. Not one person, in my years in this industry, refused to shake my hand when I put it out there. (Though, I've had lots of confused or concerned looks with my septum ring, long hair, jeans, leather vest, and sometimes a small straw or leather cowboy style hat). ;)

Obviously, I've had some unfortunate encounters/situations as well. But life is full of those. If you had a bad encounter with another domain investor, don't let it eat you up inside. Just push it away and focus on the positives, your goals, the great people you will meet, and your dreams.

I think more people should meet up and shake each other's hands. It creates a bigger bond knowing exactly who you're dealing with behind the screen.

The cold but hard truth is: Real people like doing business with real people. If you want to get serious about domain investing, you are going to have to break out of your comfort zone and mingle a little with other like-minded investors.

Maybe start a new Meet-Up thread for your area.

I like the “I’m a Domainer” t-shirt idea!

(And yes, the domain name has already been reg’d.)

In 10 years I have never met another domainer. I know there are many domainers in my city - Vancouver but have never seen in person. I'm easy to find - check my avatar. I have posted many times in the meet and greet and networking sections of Namepros and in the .ca thread as well.

I like in no particular order:
Shawarma,sushi,pho,steak,hot dogs,cheeseburgers,rabbit food,fish and chips, beer ,wine,coffee,tea,bubble tea,coca-cola.

PM if you want to meet up.

I've had the privilege of meeting some of the top domainers, or domain investors (as some prefer this label), via our domain marketing platform and related services over the past 11 years. This has been in person whether on the phone, Skype, or domain conferences. And it includes investors from practically every continent. Always been a very positive and rewarding experience, every single time.

In 2018 domaining is still a secret society. There's your answer.

In 2018 there are people that will happily pay over 1 million for a house in New York, Toronto or Vancouver the maybe was purchased for 250K 20 years ago but have no clue (or worse complain) that a domain registered 20 years ago costs more than the reg fee.

Domaining is the business of selling purely internet creations online. Unlike other internet industries that have irl counterparts, like art design and writing, you can't domain in real life. It literally exists only online.

We all met online. Why would we meet offline?

And that's why the majority of us haven't met another domainer XD.

UNLESS OFC NP WANTS TO MAKE A DOMAINING SOCIAL MMO LIKE SECOND LIFE OR SOMETHING *HINTHINT*

I'm actually more surprised domaining is still not mainstream. It's an old industry by now.
