It is often a topic of discussion and there are a handful of domains selling for 5 to 6 figures while majority exchange hands at just below USD 5000 and thousands daily for USD100 to 500 range..

Is the domain market too over crowded and under sold or is it just a game of luck , wait or find the perfect buyer if your domain seems something ideally matched for them .

I have been watching namebio sales daily and there are so many domains are sedo /name jet/go daddy for usd 20000+ tag, which I personally felt were in range of few hundreds...and then there are so many thousands people with PM replies for USD100 , USD 10 wholesale buyer requests.

What kind of buyers are buying these few thousand $$$ domains ? and are domain marketplaces only places to sell big that too if LUCK favors and the the domain gets spotted in thousands of listings after paying big time on premium promotion upgrades.?

Keep in mind that a lot of aftermarket purchases made on marketplaces such as the ones you mentioned are made by other resellers/investors, who have done a lot of research, and ready to take a slightly bigger risk with prospects in mind to reach out to directly.

The biggest end-user sales rarely come from marketplaces and are more commonly coming from a broker or investor with extensive sales presentation experience.

It has been several years since SEDO last published their domain market summaries but I recall that the median sales price for a .COM sold on their platform was in the $600 range with prices for .net, .org CCtlds and other extensions a bit below that figure. While SEDO was not the only domain marketplace, they were a major player in the domain space. Things changed after their relationship with Godaddy was severed, they lowered payouts on parking and increased commissions on their platform. While the industry is fixated on big-dollar sales, I believe the majority of aftermarket sales are $1500 and under.

Just go to godaddy.com and on their front page they are always promoting alternative TLD's than .COM.
As people start to accept them, they will feel less need to pay for expensive .com names. Corporations will always be happy to spend for a good name, but small businesses are learning about alternatives when the .com they want is $3495.

People overestimate the aftermarket for domain names. Uniregistry are selling 30-40 per day through their platform according to what I see. Not many is it?

Most sales go unreported. I haven't disclosed a single one of my sales.
I would say 98% of most sales are for peanuts, if you consider a 500%-900% ROI Peanuts.

Yes sedo market may have fallen..but most 4 to 5 figure sales are there and at godaddy...flippa hardly has big sales..

yes , but as far as I tried to contact and know about uniregistry, its more about parking and inbound leads and then following ...but still uniregistry sales have a usd 20000 to usd 50000 sale tag...how do they land up that range with specially everyone giving low ball offers initially...

There are a lot of domain sales and auctions between domain investors. The launch of hundreds of new extensions has siphoned off hundreds of millions of dollars away from the reseller market for legacy extensions.

that is correct...500 % ROI are golden peanuts...in namepros for sale I see hundreds of listings with BUMP...UP...and its prices of 25, 35 55 ,75...so where are the big domain sales happening here ? or is it all via PM undisclosed.

I took a look at fifteen low $XXX sales from 2015 - ~three years ago.
Two were developed: IslasGalapagos.net & VinoTV.com

The others were either posted for sale, had Godaddy parking pages or had been subsequently dropped.

My sales through their platform are all in that range but they have to be great names to realize top$

I know if the 95% claim is true or not but most of the sales are to resellers. I last two years, I have sold about 20 domains, some for mid $xxx and some for low $x,xxx. Only a couple of were to end users where the website is developed. Most of them are still idle at the registrar they transferred.

I have still seen many names on domain marketplaces where the domain shows sold few months back at namebio...but its still available with a for sale lander at same marketplace...and I saw many such kind of domains...

Domaining has a lot of variables. Most important is quality of the domain as then you're holding assets and not lottery tickets.

Seller A: Buys a domain for $8 sells it on a forum, aftermarket, own page for xx-xxx and is happy and moves on to the next.

Seller B: Buys a domain for $8 avoids forums, resellers and waits it out for end users only and all sales x,xxx-xx,xxx.

No right or wrong as profit is profit. Problem with being Seller A though is it's not 2003 anymore so when you sell a good domain cheap that only works with an unlimited supply of cheap replacements. Domains you use to be able to grab for $8 years ago now end up xxx-xxxx at auction houses. So Seller A is more of a short term plan to eventual extinction as year after year your total portfolio quality continues to dwindle as not enough profit margin to replace/maintain quality.

I fall to Seller B as I value my time and Chicago is expensive. If I lived somewhere cheap maybe Seller A works but living here x,xxx is my starting point on all sales. I've sold $8 pick ups all across the board 1k, 3k, 6.5k, 7.5k, 16k etc... waited years on some but when something is only $8 to keep it another year I'd rather hold for the right end user value then accept the first xx-xxx offer as no way to replace that domain and profit with only xx-xxx on the table.

Domaining should be a piece of the pie and not the whole pie. Years ago I invested domain sales profits into development, servers, stocks etc... and now I have a handful of sites that generate monthly income basically on auto pilot. When you have quality domains and don't need domain sales income to survive/pay renewals/pay bills it's a lot easier to quote end user pricing as that's the only way you get end user pricing is by asking for it. Blow deals here and there sure but if you don't need the income you could care less as quality of the domain and not needing the money puts you in charge.

Quality Domains+Distribution+Not Needing Domain Sales Income To Survive=Success

For average selling domains in xxx to xxxx range...such sellers are throwing away their domains..so buyers are encouraged to post ads to buy for xx or xxx

I guess domaining is for rich investors with holding power and investment potential of min Usd 5000 upwards.

unless you live somewhere where you can live on a few hundred $ per month, yes.

Most domain investing is actually speculation or gambling (at least with hand regs it is)

Domaining is for everyone not just for rich investors. The thing is some people get how to make money and some dont. Most don't really understand the business. When I came in this business I was poor im not rich but I don't really have $ problems anymore. To anyone who says that this is hard or they're not making money it's your fault you didn't put in the work you didn't study enough you didn't create a good enough strategy. You don't know domains good enough. There's money being spent on domains every single day. Every single day thousands and thousands of dollars are spent but you're not getting a piece of the pie you to study and strategize
