You should visit and see the place personally before buying any geodomains. Is it true? Not 100% but very much true.

For example.. Catalonia, Spain and Neom city, Saudi Arabia.

Why ? Aren't we just looking to make money on them ? I can't imagine traveling to another country just because I have a few clever domains for it's TLD.

Maybe you can share your view why we should put in so much effort and expense.

I mean no need to buy any domain if you don't have any idea about that particular place or area or else you loose money.

I both agree and somewhat disagree. I agree that in general I would only consider buying a domain name of a place I knew. I don't think a single visit would probably suffice, and really in promoting a name for travel, etc. it should be somewhere you know well. On the other hand, I could see being able to sell a domain for a place without going there, if you had done online research, etc. so had a good working knownledge.

Nevertheless, your thesis would be a good argument to go some nice places :xf.smile: I wonder if you could write it off as a tax expense on your domain profit? :xf.wink: Why am I thinking probably not :xf.frown:

If we have to travel to places to sell the names of them, then I'm not sure why we have the internet.

I only buy domains to sell them.

Soon after Saudi Arabia announced to build neom city, lots of domains got booked, how many years will you wait to develop?

Similar way lots of domains got booked regarding Catalonia..

The concept of visiting the place before buying GEO names is totally absurd.

All the information that really matters for the purpose of selling a domain can be obtained online.

google it! - get the stats and view the landscape via online pic's - why on earth does it make sense to visit and spend thousands visiting potential geo locations?! O_o

Just leave english speaking countries, May be lot of data available to read and gather information..

The concept im telling about non english speaking countries..

Any spaniard can invest spanish geo domains wisely, how come any non spaniard can understand the nature and behaviour of spanish people.

If you are staying in US, it is not suitable for you to invest in Saudi Arabia domains, because you dont know anything about Saudi Arabia.

Im not telling you to visit country just for buying domains, im telling just to save money if you dont know anything about that place especially peoples nature and behaviour.

Your point is relevant and good and can be applied to nearby cities/states where one lives. But visiting another regions just to invest in geo domains does not sound promising. We can learn a lot about what's happening in the world using the Internet (big news related to development and etc.), so the point of visiting personally isn't that much fun and economical for all.

Besides:

Would you spend $1,000 or more to visit another location just so you can find some nice geo domains?

OR

Would you rather spend HALF of that money on acquiring some nice geo domain from the comfort of your home?

Lets take example of South Korea..

As per my meeting had with one south korean, long before I understood the concept of koreans and the knowledge i gain is not available on internet.

If you visit one time by spending $1000, it is more worth than lots of domains.

But we're not buying domains because we want to know more about a country. No offense, but this whole idea is silly.

I have been to quite a few countries and I invest in ccTLDs a lot. Wherever I go, I always look carefully at the URLs that are used to better understand the local taste.
For example, since Catalunya was mentioned, on my trip to Barcelona I have noticed that .es was the dominant extension, followed by .com and .cat came third - often used by official websites.

ccTLDs are specialized markets, without some knowledge of local conditions it's easy to register bad names.
Names that don't make sense like tuxedorental.de and stuff like that.

While I realize we are talking about geodomains here and not ccTLDs, it is important to have understanding of local conditions...

Yes one should do some research via Wikipedia to understand the population of a city as well as the degree of tourism and economy. YouTube could also be a very useful source. However it is not practical to spend airfare plus hotel plus restaurant meals and local transportation for two weeks just to make a domain investment decision (unless we are talking about perhaps buying a large City.com domain for six figures or more). Note that the only geo domains I have are geo city real estate or geo city TV domains. To use examples of one city I have visited (Cartagena Colombia - one million metro population, tourist city with cruise ships visiting its port, Spanish fort and architecture in downtown , felt safer in tourist areas than in much of South Florida)

ArriendosCartagena.com

ArrendamientosCartagena.com

CartagenaTVcom

Very untruth! There are many tools to find stats about the geo location to know much about the place. If I may ask you, why must one traveled to the geo before buying?
