The Cryptocurrency Domain Name Block-Chain.Com Has Been Acquired for $1,000,000
One of the largest ever cryptocurrency domain name acquisitions was announced during Consensus 2018, the 4th annual blockchain technology summit sponsored by CoinDesk. A group of investors has purchased the Block-chain.com domain for $1 million (111 BTC), which makes this the third most expensive cryptocurrency domain name acquisition ever.

Prior to this transaction, the most expensive blockchain domain names sold were btc.com (sold for $1.1 million as early as 2014) and eth.com (sold for $2 million in October 2017). The buyers of the Block-chain.com domain immediately launched one of the largest portals in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry, bringing together the functionality of all the current major industry players.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Did you read that on NamePros? There was someone here who was purely speculating that's what happened, based on no actual evidence as far as I could tell.

Anyone who believes this is a genuine sale is nuts. No sane end user with an ounce of common sense is paying 1 million for this domain name when superior names like TheBlockchain.com are still publicly listed for sale.

It is a PR stunt or some dirty business.

May be TheBlockchain.com was asking more than $1 million!!!

Wow that's a pretty big deal considering it's a hyphenated com.
Gives me some hope for my domain off-chain.com which is also a Crypto term. I'd be ecstatic if I got 1/100th of that amount lol. Fingers crossed :xf.rolleyes: :xf.grin:

Barefoot! You used to own Block-Chain.com. Please tell me this is your sale...

This sale maybe genuine but the reported price tag has to be a lie. Only an idiot would pay that much. It is public knowledge that it sold for $30,000 earlier in the year. What end user worth their salt would know that and then agree to pay $1,000,000.

I would be slapping myself if I found out a domain I sold went for a million.

I can only think of one successful company, business and product that has a hyphen in its name. Just-eat (just-eat.co.uk).

Hyphens are very rarely ever used in branding, marketing, promotional stuff. That is why less than 2% of reported .com domain sales have hyphens. The only country I know of where hyphens are generally liked is in Germany, who prefer .de.

I'm obviously biased owning e-coins.com, but I think one of the rare cases that the hyphen "works" would be with an "e-" prefix -- some numerous & hefty sales via Namebio support this..

You could eliminate the hyphen altogether, obviously, but it's just an alternative & a viable/potent one in my case (imo).

Also could be incorrect, but many comparable names aren't available or even on the market at all, given they were some of the first reg'd in the 90's.

I would say your sale was an amazing sale for a hyphen domain when you sold it. No one would have known this name would later pop off at such a high valuation.

Yeah, I get you, there’s something a little odd about it for sure (i guess new Crypto wealth).
If there was one hyphenated domain, right now, that could achieve that price it would be that one, considering how valuable Blockchain.com will be.

Do you really think TheBlockChain.com is better than Block-Chain.com? Later once looks good if I have a choice. Hyphen isn't a bummer here considering the potential of the domain.
