Hello Everyone,

Sorry if this question has been presented before, but I am trying to register a domain that shows expired on the Whois but GoDaddy says is still registered. I know there is a grace period before the domain is released but according to the Whois the domain expired 2/14/2015 and was last updated on 1/16/2014.

Any help would be appreciated. What am I not understanding?

Thanks,
Bill

If it is not a dot com, maybe the whois record is cached and not updated for yours.
What is the TLD?

It is a .com. I did not know that made a difference. I am new to finding/acquiring expired domain names. Since it' s a .com how long do I have to wait or how do I go about picking this name up?

Yes, positive. I've attached a screenshot from Who.is showing when it expired. I would rather not share the domain, just in case, but do you or anyone have any idea what I can do?

No can know the issue without inquiring himself. Which will require the name.
That is why I asked for name in private. You have to trust someone.

The whois shows it expired 3 years ago. If that was correct, you could hand reg it now. So if you can't hand reg it now, then the whois is wrong.

Whois is correct. There was a domain in client hold at netsol that was expired since 2003. I launched a complaint with icann and the registrar updated the expiration date but still warehouses the domain in client hold.

How long ago did you file the complaint? Wondering if I should try going the same route or if it is useless.

Ok, I will send a PM now.
Oh it is certainly registered. It is registered on Godaddy.
So correct info can be seen here.
whois.godaddy.com

Your whois tool deceived you. Some whois tools may show you old data especially when :
1. The whois of registrar (godaddy) denies read permission (like godaddy denies port 43)
or
2. The domain is not .com .net .org .info etc(managed by verisign) and your whois tool has problem with managing world's all registries. especially ccTLDs

Hope it helps.
