The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It's time to look at your domain names & ask yourself. Am I doing right?

Put some more names on auction. Sell some wholesale. That will boost your motivation. :)

I really don't do anything different. Sales are streaky.

If you are getting steady offers then sales are a result of that over time.
If you are not getting steady offers then I would be more concerned.

For the same reason, I have chosen Flippa auctions then inviting an end users to participate in an auction. I have sold my most recent three auctions for loss but I can have some funds to re-invest!

On a different note, inquiries are increasing for my domains in last one month but no sale yet!

Waitng for the proverbial question; are your domains any good?

Nevermind, it has already been accomplished. :pompous:

Had a few low offers but no completed sales yet. Maybe I should have accepted the offers but that's in the past and will stay positive and move on.
I continue to read and watch videos about domaining to better my knowledge.
And I enjoy it :xf.smile:
Having a full time job also keeps me occupied.

I will stop buying new domain names for one month and heavily concentrate on selling what I have i possession. For some people new ideas and tricks pop ups in mind, when they are under pressure!

Go out and work harder for a sale - When I'm in a run like this one what I usually do is pick up next 3 names that are expiring or I want them gone and basically send out email to anyone I think could use it.

There are many factors that play a role in deciding the 'viability' of the 'business'. One being total number of domains. One cannot expect 1-2 sale of out of portfolio of 10-15 names, as the above average sales rate is 2-3%. As always, give it some time, would say 2-4 years to realize whether this business is right for you or not. Other factor being 'viability' of the domain itself. Selling them at wholesale prices is not going to cut it. So, you have to think from end user's perspective - that is where the margins are. We normally recommend these 2/3 criteria for deciding whether there is a buyer for the name.

1) Can the domain name be used for a ‘business’. Where does it fit in - product name, service, or business name itself.

2) Does the business identified in Step 1 has large enough scope. Can that business survive of its own by selling that particular product/service. If the scope is wider, meaning there are multiple industries where the domain can potentially be used, better it is as it will have larger audience, hence better chance of finding a buyer.

3) If you answered yes to both above - here is the next step. Since you are doing the domain business, so you are kind of 'business person' yourself. So you have to ask yourself this question, would 'You' run that business yourself (ignore the money part here). And this is what you have to think of when buying the name.

"Be a buyer first before becoming a seller"

Also, what is that important is that you do not have one particular type of names. Have some names that are high yielding, some average, and some that keep the engine running. Keep a mixed bag. Run by a name again and again and do not be fixated in one direction - ask your friends what they think of the name. Normally, people do not realize the value of the name and undersell because they need to sell, but most ask ridiculous prices, more a case of 'hit or miss' (that approach is not recommended). Buyer is no fool, they are businessmen themselves - that is why they are buying the name, and not because they just like the name.

Lastly, in forums, you will see lot of buzz around some names being sold for several thousands, the names that you would not pay $100 for. Do not get disheartened or excited over those news. Those instances are not very common and normally belong to very large portfolio owners, and their strategy is different and is based on their (decades of) experience. You have your own strategy based your understanding and experience.

Hope it helps.

I would definitely recommend to remain positive and patient, domaining is a long-term business that by it's very nature usually requires a year or more commitment per domain name simply to register them! Set up a single page lander to point your domains at, maybe have someone privately appraise some/all your domains for you?
Make sure to keep looking around for information about domains and website information, or market trends, and don't forget to relax too!

I guess it depends on whether domain investing is your livelihood or a hobby. In either case, I think it helps if you have a written plan - i.e. set goals for how many domains to sell each year, how much $$ profit, etc. That way if you are overall for the past 12 months on track, then it will help calm you about no sales in past month or two.

I think even if domain investing is your business, if at all possible you should have some other income source that is more steady, since unless you have a huge, liquid portfolio there will be times with no sales.

It is a good idea to set goals even when nothing is selling, whether that is research, improving online presence, listing in additional marketplaces, outbound inquiries, social media, etc.

Best of luck to the OP and to all who have contributed on the thread.

if there are no sales for a long time, then you must check the trend. If you are all set but still no sales that means you don't have what people looking for.
  • Sometimes you have to create needs of your product in the public so don't waste your time waiting for them to come to you. Instead, Step ahead and go to them with a bit lowered prices of your names. See if any buyer refused your price because it was higher at that time, contact em and offer your reduced price just to initiate couple of sales for rolling the ball.
  • Another way to scrub your portfolio, if you selling through "Make offer" or "buy Now", its time to change your strategy and try "Auction" sales category with the slightly lowered "starting bid".
  • This is what I do when there is "No or Slow" sale. :xf.smile:

Actually I was having a steady xxxx income monthly mainly via outbound and it's my only source of income , but outbound looks dead now no replies no price inquires ..not sure what I'm doing wrong as my strategy was giving me steady income for me almost a year.

Looking to move away from outbound , as domaining is my only source of income for me and my family , need to build a strategy , thanks for all the valuable advices above. Still without a sale 1 month plus , let's see what's next.

The best solution is to have the domains with quality traffic...
So even during long periods without sales - you may live just from monetization...

this is the conclusion of my 1 year experience in the domain business.

there are 6 ways to succeed in the domain business:

1. investment TLD .com, .net, .org. by having a 1 word domain
2. short domain investment 3L, 4L 3N, 4N, 5N, 6N .com. / 3L, 4L.3N, 4N, 5N. net / 3L org
3. domain investment crypto, coin, block, token, ico 2 words keyword
4. investment brand domain in BB or Brandpa.
5. domain investment that has parking income.
6. Instantly upgrade your domain portfolio to over 2,000 domains with the specific terms of the domains that are numbered at number 1 through number 5

best regards

parking is still profitable @Jurgen Wolf ?
Yes. Especially ZeroClick with HighTraffic domains...
And overall, monetization is a part of domaining apriori, not only trading.
