Marketplace offer - Reject or Counter? Expert advise needed

Hello All,

This is my first thread here. I have been reading and following up on the great posts here from experienced domainers for sometime now but have always been shy of posting. Thank you all for all the direct and indirect help you have provided me!

Here's a scenario I am up against. Hope you all could help me out. I have a habit of putting all my unused domains listed on a marketplace without a price - some of them are good ones as I would like to believe . So among the many offers I receive quite often, recently I came across a good one. The domain in question is extremely brandable one word (and I don't say this due to bias) and has a terrific value attached to it - makes sense in two languages or maybe three, including English in a highly lucrative & evergreen sector. I believe its value is somewhere in the range of low to mid $XXX,XXX atleast (end user price, as you say). Plus it is short, aged and a ".com".

So I have received an offer of high $XXXX (from a well known domain broker), the offer looks serious but I have no intention to sell it (even if I want to sell it, that is) at that price. I had acquired this domain for a personal project a long time back but never got the time or resources to put it to work. Though, I still have plans to develop it in the future. Second, I don't need the money right now and am willing to hold on to it to eternity

Note that, the domain has privacy enabled from the time I have registered it. So no way they can contact me directly. I cannot share the domain or the details of the broker in question here, unfortunately.

Coming to my question: Should I reject the offer outright - hoping he would come back with a better offer? Will that be like, "rude" ? Or should I counter it with my expectations (in the same end user price range above) ? I do not have an option to have a dialogue with him through the marketplace. The only thing I can do is reject or counter the offer amount.

Some questions that I am anticipating from all of you
Q: Am I willing to sell the domain?
A: Yes, only if the price is really good and will help me overcome the heartache of letting the domain go

Q: Why don't I contact the broker directly outside the platform? (it's fairly easy and his contact detail is publicly available)
A: I could but wouldn't that be unethical considering the lead came through the marketplace? - What's your expert take on this?

Q: Number of end-users?
A: Plenty - I could think of a few on my fingertips already.

Hey, thanks for your superfast reply. I wasn't expecting a reply so soon.

Well the offer came from a well known broker who might or might not be working for a potential end-user. Plus, I do not have any advertising on the domain.

So you are suggesting, just ignore the offer received (take no action) and then contact the broker or the end user(s) directly?

Not doubting you but just so you know, we get a lot of people saying they think their domain is worth xxx,xxx when its not really. Is the domain a common word like one of these? Drinks.com, Brand.com, Tokens.com, Look.com. Body.com, Tell.com, Broker.com, Forum.com etc. These are the types of names that sell for 200k to 500k

I would have thought if a broker from the domain market where you have it for make offer, has contacted you with an offer. As a matter of professional courtesy, it warrants a reply. You should be upfront with the broker and just tell him how much you want for the domain.

My only question would be... How sure are you that your required price is realistic? You could do some research at DNBio how much similar names have sold for. To give you the confidence that you are not trying to ask too much, or too little.

I understand. I valued the price range of the domain if selling to an end-user. The domain has obvious end-users and the fact that the word makes sense in multiple languages. There are obvious end-users in multiple countries who would be interested. Appreciate your advise, thank you

Yes I am fairly confident that I am expecting a realistic price. As I said, I do follow a lot of informative threads here as well as some other forums. I have also researched previous sales on NameBio and other platforms. And I do follow trends. Other than that, the sector I believe the domain IS suitable, is receiving a substantial amount of VC funding. Okay there, I gave a clue. And no, its not crypto.

Your name, your price. looks like you know the value of this domain. just a short reply "Thanks but I will consider offers in 6 figure only" will be good imo. or if there's no option to reply a comment then enter the figure you are comfortable with. You never know maybe the interested party has budget. Not all 6 figure sales starts with 6 figure offers.

Its undeveloped. I see no option to message the potential buyer directly. Just accept, counter or reject.

Ok this looks promising. How did you get that option? I checked all through the interface and I see no option to message the buyer. Only Accept This Offer, Send a Counter Offer, Reject this Offer.

Did you perform any of these actions prior to getting the message option? Please help

Yes..After you send the counter offer, you will have an option of sending a message to the buyer

Just to add to the method @Crysis is using, personally pre-write my message and have it spellchecked and ready to paste. First submit the counter offer, then you'll get the message option. Only since it is time-stamped and the first time didn't know how it worked so was writing my message in a hurry which is not my preference.

Also if you want extra support contact Undeveloped directly, especially for large sales, if you want backup or help with how their system works.
