What are peoples opinions on .UK domain extention? Not co.uk - just .UK

I saw a thread on here for someone looking for appraisal on blockchain.uk but no one replied.

So what's your thoughts on .UK?

Just found out why I managed to pick up the site I thought would be reserved.
Creditcards.uk
The .co.uk was only registered in 2015 while the singular version was registered prior to 2014 (the date Godaddy states as required for reservations).

I think I may be on to a winner here.

Correct.

I have the receipt in my inbox, they have taken payment and now it tells me it is reserved when I tried to find it in my account.
Called Godaddy and the .co.uk was actually registered in 1993 (I must have misread one of those backward date formats).

Really should have known better than to think it wouldn't be reserved.

Oh well at least we know there is an issue with .uk sites on Godaddy where availability is not certain even after paying. Sorry for the false alarm.

I think you'll find plenty of good ones you can still get - It's just going to be a matter of giving it a go each time.

I wont give but will need to check the original date of registration on all the .uk's to ensure that I don't spend money on 100 sites for them all to bounce and wait while godaddy has my cash for 2 days before refunding.

The .uk is reserved for the .co.uk owner until 2019. Domainers are waiting for the release of unclaimed .uk domains next year :xf.wink:

.nz (New Zealand) went through the same process not long ago. They opened up the second level, whereas you had to register .co.nz (or another 3rd level) in the past. But the claim period lasted only 6 months... Good news for domainers  But the registrants who ignored the news or procrastinated may regret it down the road.

You should check out the uk droplists ;) Lots of domains drop every day and, of course, with that drop it frees up the .uk

BTW you haven't got creditcards.uk regardless of what the registrar told you. It has reserved rights for the .co.uk owner
*edit* Just noticed you said godaddy. That says it all. They have no idea how the .uk market works and are quite possibly the worst registrar for uk domains apart from 123reg.
