This is what caught my attention:
It’s important to note that some sites affected by this change may also contain Google ads. To us, your experience on the web is a higher priority than the money that these annoying ads may generate—even for us.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I don't think it's really worth talking about. MapleDots thinks that Ublock Origin is going to take over Adblock Plus, but based on the stats we are talking years before that could even possibly happen.

I think the browsers will actually make adblock and ublock almost worthless in the near future.

Just my 2 cents.

Yup that is what has been said for years and what you need to say coming from voodoo.com.

Did you know there are tons of adblock browsers out there?

Did you know a brand new firefox for android was just launched with full extension support and I am running firefox with ublock as my default browser on android.

All this new tech is going away (n)(n)

Are you a wagering man?

PS. I dropped chrome on android because they took away adblock, there are lots of choices out there.

great
thanks for info

good to know as somoene in this field, you do not forsee any noticable changes or drops in revenue caused by blocker evolutions. I am sure domainers appreciate you putting their minds a bit at ease. surely no one wants to see their park revenues decrease, yourself included I imagine. then again, I suppose parking companies have fairly straightforward to implement ways to compensante for any decreased revenues by simply lowering the revenue share %. so say instead of 90/10 model.. it can become 80/20 and so on.

it'd still be interesting imo on a parking company, to see a statistics column for how many visits were actually not displaying the ads (due to blocker). I am sure many who park would find this information interesting. is this something that can be implemented? if not, do you on your end keep track of exact figures and % of visitors who arrive at your pages, but do not see the ads?

I like how Donny from voodoo & equity78 from TLDinvestors go around liking each others posts that declare ad blockers irrelevant or obsolete.

Fact is they will be around for a long time, on android google removed extensions purely because they wanted ads displayed. Good thing that android is open source because many browsers dozens and dozens sprung up to take chromes place. The fact that firefox has full extension support in firefox now is just amazing. We can add Greasemonkey to install custom scripts and do almost anything.

The consumer does not have to be educated because the aftermarket browsers will do all the heavy lifting and come with the scripts already installed. I read an article that said in India and Pakistan the adblock browsers were more popular than the factory ones.

I just find it funny that businesses keep saying irrelevant and then they run to install scripts to block ad blockers. The OEM's are bringing out their own ad blockers because they realize they are not going away. So take away the flashing ads and politely ask your users to whitelist you. I would immediately do so and so would a large chunk of the adblock user base.

How good are the blockers?
Here is a before and after picture of TLDinvestor.com with and without a blocker.

I could not post all the flashing etc but I have to say at least their ads don't interfere with the content. That said once I read 3 or so articles I get pretty tired of all the flashing on both sides. A better way would be a banner top and bottom so when I read the articles it is not continuously flashing in my eyes but I still see the ads top and bottom.

I see both sides of the argument but if something keeps flashing in my face I will disable it.

So go ahead and keep liking all the posts that spell doom and gloom for ad blockers but that wont change the fact that consumers are using them and will continue to do so. And of course you can dislike me for stating a factual truth.

First off I am not sure what your problem is, I am well up on adblockers, never said they were obsolete, ads on our blog are sold on a fixed basis not CPC where we earn income like adsense. All advertisers know there is a portion of readers using adblockers, it's why there are also native ads that are used with a text only element.

The posts I liked of Donny's had to do with which adblocker would stay dominant.

Like this:

Browsers will continue to evolve and have their own adblocking solutions Whichever way it goes is not of a concern of mine, we don't use programmatic or videos or autoplay. We do allow a gif, no flash which falls under the good advertising guidelines. Traffic is good, revenue is good, advertisers are happy.

That's the beauty of online publishing as a publisher the numbers tell you all you need to know, when they go down you adjust or move on.

@MapleDots
I liked a post from anybody? That's interesting. Can't say I remember liking any posts. But if you say I did, then I guess I did.

And I like equity78 don't think adblockers are obsolete. Crap, now my inner Matt Hardy voice is taking over. I just think that Chrome will "delete" them! It is time for me to leave this shell and return to my dilapidated boat!

Sorry, that was weird...

If you like adblockers, use them. I have 5 browsers that I have open 24 hours a day. 2 of them have adblockers running, the other 3 do not. I normally actually surf the net with Edge, because I'm on the edge. :)

I wish you luck in all of your future endeavors.

I was talking about one person (Donny) saying adblockers will be obsolete and another person going and liking all of his posts that are similar. The thing in common is both people have a vested interest in having ads run on their websites.

Guys, seriously I am not trying to criticize you but I just keep hoping advertisers and consumers could work closer together to get to a happy medium.

Good ads, I'll click them, great experience on the website, I will disable my blocker.
I am on a few websites where they actively converse with members to see what works and does not. Those sites make good money on ads because the member base whitelists them.

@equity78 - the flashing ads would cause me not to whitelist, again not a critisism as much as a fact.

@Donny I don't currently have an address for a voodoo parked page so I cannot give you a direct opinion on ads for your landers.

That is all, I hope you take that at face value and not as a criticism.

PS. Sedo did something right because their landers are now showing up nicely with uBlock.

@Donny has 6 posts in here of which I liked 2, which pertained to the same topic. I don't see Gifs as flash, those who do that's their choice.

...meanwhile, Chrome's adblock has yet to show up .

I wonder who initially came up with that 15th of Feb date and spread it to the rest of the world :)

Chrome's built it ad blocker is live, but only on Canary right now, which is their development version of Chrome. But since the ad blocker has been live for a while on Canary, Google has already been showing some of the advertisers what ads are good and which ones aren't. So some advertisers are already making their ad stacks more compliant. Which is a good thing.

I never said adblockers would be obsolete. I just said that Chrome will make it so most normal people won't go looking for an ad blocker. Many people will continue to use adblock plus, ublock, or whatever is the flavor of the month. As I said on some browsers I use them myself.

So I spoke too soon......

When a page shows on sedo with sedo.com in the address bar it shows up and the ad blockers leave it alone.

However when the page is parked with the domainers address in the address bar it is almost fully blocked.

Just thought I would update that.

thats like masked url forwarding.. why would blocker attack masked vs unmasked.

so there is an easy solution to that.. when you forward to sedo lander just leave it unmasked for the address.

No I don't think that is it, the one is a for sale page while the other is a parked page. The parked page has ads and is therefore blocked just like all parked pages.

I WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME PARKED PAGES ADDRESSES FROM DIFFERENT SERVICES TO SEE WHO GETS THROUGH OR NOT.

So far the ad blockers (especially ublock) are blocking every service that has parking.

ah ok
lol sorry.. based on the addressbar I thought you were comparign identical for sale lander pages.. but one arrived at via url masking.. and one witout masking.. whch would have been odd... why one would be blocked and not the other.. but.... it looked like it to me..

All parking companies who work with a very large upstream ad provider, will all be blocked with ublock. The only ones that would not be blocked are somebody who is using Yahoo.

Donny

So for example domainadvertising.com their parked pages are blocked by ublock. That's because they use a common div, but somebody else I know who has a Yahoo feed, their ads show up perfectly fine with ublock. I won't say who they are because they only offer parking to select customers.

It is too bad because parked pages are a good source of revenue for domainers.

@Donny

Is there any way an adblock user can whitelist a service like voodoo?

I think I may have a way for you to do it.

So domain1.com owned by a domainer is blocked and so is domain2.com. I cannot whitelist because every URL is different.

Voodoo displays parked pages like this

voodoo.com/url/domain1.com

Now I can whitelist voodoo and all parked pages will appear.

@MapleDots - Nope. That's not allowed. It used to be years ago.

I think you can still do it with Yahoo though.

The only way you could allow parked pages would be to whitelist: http://www.google.com/adsense/domains/caf.js

That way all parking pages would work in ublock.

well I think Donny was recently making point that most who use ublock wouldn't be clicking on ads anyway... which to some extent is probably true..

as for adblock plus which is most popular blocker now. voodoo is already whitelisted.. so is PC..

so why do you say its too bad?

Not sure I understand Donny

I am talking about on a user level. If I whitelist voodoo.com in my adblocker all parked pages with voodoo.com/something should appear.

0
•••
That's not the way it works. Voodoo.com doesn't use subdomains or /domains/, it only uses domain1.com

Donny

so why do you say its too bad?

Because some people would want to whitelist parking companies.
I actually prefer to see those pages because I am in the business.

With the urls as I stated that would be entirely possible.

Donny you said before you keep good track of how many of your visitors use adblockers and the types etc.. can you share those stats here? ty

With some of the newer user scripts out there is really no way to tell this exactly alcy. The whole point of some of the scripts is to hide the fact that an ad blocker is being used at all, therefore effectively bypassing the please unblock us nag screen.

Some of the forums I am on have discussed this in the past and how it is getting harder and harder for websites to detect the use of blockers. Therefore I don't think anyone can accurately predict the level of use anymore.

The only answer is a compromise from both sides.

Here is an example for me (personal)

I would remove my adblocker if...

- Nothing auto played
- nothing flashed
- same ad would not re-appear several times on a page

I think if that alone was implemented a lot of people would give up on adblockers. I remember I looked at a printer on amazon and I was fed an ad at staples for the same printer 100 bucks off. Who would not want handy ads like that?

PS. I often whitelist places to get the ads because some of them are quite helpful.

well I only asked because Donny once said (another thread) they keep good track and stats on these things. and since many here are wondering, I thought I'd ask to post. but his silence probably means we're getting absolutely nada about that. cheers.
