One of the biggest attractions of domain name investing is that there are so many ways that you could make money from domain names. The interviews that you watch and read from some of the industry’s leading figures is proof enough that there are numerous ways of making money from domain names.

Many successful investors such as Andrew Rosener primarily make money via brokering and private sales whilst the likes of Gary Millin of World.com creates brands with his premium names. It’s been well documented that investors such as Rick Schwartz have made millions of dollars from parking, whereas some industry leading brokers such as Giuseppe Graziano own very few names, concentrating exclusively on brokerage services.

Even within each category, there are different strategies that work for different people, giving further fuel to the notion that there are as many different ways to make money through domains as there are domain investors in the industry.

In this week’s poll, we’d like to know where the majority of your domain profit originates. This could be via private or brokered sales, auction platforms, domain parking or domain development.

This year, the majority of my domaining income comes from private sales with much of that income originating from liquid domains. These are usually domains purchased privately and subsequently sold on to domain investors. The sales either come privately or via auction platforms such as NameJet.

My own strategy focuses on domain sales since domains in my portfolio produce very little parking revenue and domain development can take a substantial amount of time. It would be interesting to hear from other domainers, so comment below with your own strategies if you would like to share.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
My profits or should I say sales {this year is slow} comes from selling domains ,But every parking company has ways of making more From your clicks ,but yes you first have to get visits to your site ,My new thing is placing a teaser ad on the parked page ,that will entice someone to click on it ,try to use teasers [keywords] that will bring in high paying ads such as if you had the domain related to law , floridalaw . com you may put alink that says ''Class action against ?'' sometime these click pay mega bucks ,there a way around every parking company ,somehow godaddy that claims to pay 80% out ,seems to keep 98% of the revenue ,that my experience ,they pay squat

Good question.

I’d like to chat with those that made profit from development. Maybe we can share dome ideas, I like to pick your brain.

My zero profit comes from not selling any

Although I am getting quite qood at watching the domains I let expire being bought by large companies that buy the domain I bought for reg fee they then buy for reg fee lol

Oh and I am also getting extremely good at buying brandables for reg fee that get rejected by bb lol and I then do nothing with them and then let them expire lol

Profit? What's that lol

For me, ~98% of the profit is generated via private sales and sales via domain market places (including Namepros). The remaining ~2% is auctions.

Where Does the Majority of Your Domain Profit Originate?

majority of it, originates from somebody else's pocket.

the rest comes from google, yahoo and other advertisers who provide feeds to the various ppc services.

:)

Profit = Financial gain after expenses.
How to = Learn, learn and learn what a good domain is. Then start the hunt! And do not buy (crap) too often.

Never been much of a domain parker. Since 2003 the sales angle has always been my priority. Have taken domain sale profits and invested in web development, logos, scripts, servers etc... so 2003 had hundreds of domains and all profit from domain sales, 2017 I have 45+ websites making income while I'm sleeping and domain sales income. Doesn't matter if do like me and build your own recurring revenue stream or if ya invest in other things stocks etc... but the goal should definitely be to reinvest 25-50% into something that grows larger or puts recurring revenue in your pocket every month.

Well done! @SpareDomains May you continue to prosper and flourish. Would you mind me asking, though, what are the types of your websites? and why are they so numerous, wouldn't it be more convenient or even more profitable to focus your efforts one one or two and make them really special?

This year it has been selling domains to end-users, now trying to move into development.

Yes end users sellout is more profitable with also development and parking. These three methods are hopefully profitable

End users. I contact them with a DN that is good for them to purchase.
Other times with DN good to add to their portfolio or for SEO purpose.
