Quick little thought experiment. I'm just curious how many people here would be willing to develop / direct their main personal web site to be a .xyz domain? Say for example, if you owned <firstname>,xyz? Would you be willing to use it or would you continue to wait for something "better," e.g: <firstname>.me, <firstname>.com, etc. Granted, for most first names the .me or .com varient would be out of reach, ridiculously expensive.

I was thinking about this recently because I was wondering how ridiculous or confusing a .xyz personal web site would be or sound to most non-domainers. Like if your .xyz were on your business card or if you were giving it out over the phone to a client or person, do you think in mid-2017 that most people would just be like 'uhhhhh x-y... what?'

Thanks for any responses :)

She'd rather you make money than use it. :xf.wink:

Doesn't that also sum up part of the problem with xyz and other ngtlds. It's domainers selling to domainers instead of to end users. That another reason I think this simple thought experiment would be a bit insightful.

This entire industry is domainers selling to domainers with the end user exceptions from time to time so I'm not sure what kind of experiment your running to be honest.

Nice! I love this use case. Anyone else forward .xyz to anything social, etc? I had mine just forwarding my blog for a while, but somewhere along the line it lost nameservers and i just never bothered fixing it. I also have a .cc too.

You inspired me to think of creative uses! Cheers.

Using .xyz and many other new g's as forwarding to my primary business site. Whenever I have time to rebuild the site, needs a serious overhaul, I'll change the primary URL to one of the new g's but haven't decided which one yet.

My view is that while Negari may be a skilled marketer, he made a very poor choice to launch a business around such a meaningless letter combination as XYZ. Why the &^%$#@! would a real business do that? I am sure there are a few but when it comes to providing your credit card number or wiring funds or downloading files from the internet, trust is an important factor. A weird extension does not instill trust so there is no way I would buy from any business operating on a XYZ.

Indeed. When domainers try to strings to end users, that they wouldn't use for a real world business it speaks volume about the confidence in the products they are peddling. I would say it's the greater fool theory in action.

This thread answered a few things for me with nearly 75% of folks voting "No" to the question. Thanks! With .xyz not even bothering to add any transfer nor renewal promotions it seems like a no brainer not to develop on a .xyz domain.

They are not expensive absolutely...
And on many of them no any offers for years...
