information Media Options Reaches an Impressive Portfolio Milestone

Spaceship Spaceship
Domain brokerage company Media Options often makes the headlines thanks to their brokered domain sales. Just last week, it was revealed that Media Options’ CEO Andrew Rosener brokered a deal that enabled billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk to reacquire the X.com domain name from PayPal.

Aside from their brokerage activities, Media Options also owns several thousand premium domain names. Boasting a portfolio filled with domain names such as Bon.com, you may think there is little else to achieve as a domainer.

However, over the weekend, Media Options (@MediaOptions) completed another impressive feat.

On July 9th, Media Options asked the domaining community to help the company acquire at least one domain name from the years 1990 and 1991. In just over a week, Media Options acquired the 1990 domain OpusTech.com and the 1991 name Aracor.com.

The addition of these two domain names means that Media Options now owns a domain name registered in every single year between 1987 and 2017. In a follow-up message over the weekend, Media Options CEO Andrew Rosener said:
I believe we are now the only ones on Earth with a complete portfolio of domains from every year since the internet's inception.

Congratulations to Andrew Rosener and Media Options on this achievement.

Nice, how much did each of those domains cost? I think I have one from 95.

Oracle is very close.... They have domains dating from 1985-2017 but are missing 1 from 1987 to complete.

Problem is they have to keep hand registering domains every year now to keep the streak alive!

I sold OpusTech to Andrew (I won't disclose the price but we were both happy about it) and also recommended that he buy Arcacor. Glad to have been able to help @MediaOptions reach this domaining milestone. Congrats! BTW, I also helped broker X.com. Just kidding about that last one!

1989: murphy.com
1990: opustech.com
1991: aracor.com
1992: ins.com
1993: pwl.com
1994: impala.com
1995: bigjohnson.com
1996: kettle.com

2000: vvr.com
2001: loro.com

Problem is they have to keep hand registering domains every year now to keep the streak alive!
Not a problem if you know what to register :xf.smile:

lol .. the Domain Sherpa reviews where Andrew goes on about his aged domain fetish are super funny.

Apparently his wife got a little "99" trophy made for him when he acquired KSR.com because he was so excited about having the 99th domain name ever registered!

This is a funny little story .. but c'mon .. @MediaOptions just brokered what's likely THE best domain on the internet! This story is just subterfuge to distract us from asking how much X.com sold for! lol

@Ategy Naturally X.com's sale is way way way way (WAY) bigger. There's no comparison. It's the biggest domain sale possible. But having a domain from each possible year is cool and it's a nice little milestone. Getting those old ones isn't easy and most of the domains in this portfolio are absolutely incredible. OpusTech and Aracor are definitely the lesser in the bunch.

lol .. They are all most certainly good domains ... and Andrew and his team are EXTREMELY skilled at what they do. But add up the entire list and it's a fraction of the importance of a domain like X.com!

In fact .. now that @MediaOptions has brokered the best name on the internet I fear for his mental health .. it's only down hill from here .. Drew .. you need to get out of the domain game and move on to something more challenging for you .. Make room for the new blood. Plus since I'm a super nice and generous guy, I'll volunteer to take possession of your entire portfolio so you don't have to deal with all the emails and other distractions from your future endeavours/projects! ;)

I worked for AT&T and part of my job was referring people to att.com for some of their services. That is the #15th domain to be registered.

So for these big deals, I am sure it is flat fee right? No way in hell getting 20% on that name. =P

... and the significance of owning those is that now reporters have one more thing to write about. Right? Well duh.
