Hi guys, in your opinion, is parking dead?

Look at my last month screenshot, there are a lot of days with clicks and $ 0 revenue. 3 clicks and $ 0.01....

My stats:
CTR: 1.5% (LOL)
RPC: $ 0.01 (LOL! But only when I'm lucky! Otherwise 3 clicks $ 0!)
RPM: $ 0.11 (Seriously??? 1k user to earn $ 0.11? $ 0.11??)
Last month earning: $ 0.09 (LOL!!!!) .

I suppose I'll move away all my domain from parking companies and redirect them to sedo/uniregistry/afternic landing page.

This situation does not make sense.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Would welcome an extra $500/month from passive or even semi-passive domain use. Problem is, I have no idea how to get from A to B with that.

Parking is easy. Change name-servers and watch reports each day. But its fruitless these days. The thing with domains is, to me IMO, there are three sides to them:
1) try to sell (takes significant efforts)
2) park (relatively simple)
3) develop (significant effort).

I currently have my domains at Bodis and they allow me to use Google Analytics to see the traffic. I get good amount of traffic but I think a lot of it is bot traffic. Amazon AWS and OVH Hosting "Network Location" scanning my domains. I do get plenty of offers and I do make sales, but its hard for me to know what the quality traffic is versus the bot traffic. I can sort of tell which are scanning my domains each day. MSN is another. Every day, over and over with those three, and there are other bots I see too.. Ugh.

if you really want nothing from parking use bodis

Hi

it's not dead, just not what it used to be.

Pretty much sums it up. Here are the main reasons from what I've seen over the years:
  • Traditional parking pages, as far as design, marketing efforts and means of revenue, have not changed much over the years.
  • More domains being parked compared to ten years ago = less revenue share as a whole
  • Parking companies take more revenue share than they did ten years ago
  • Less advertisers compared to ten years ago
  • The traditional parking page has not evolved to modern means of advertising and what works now

I don't doubt that it's true, it just cracks me up that such a thing could actually happen.

And the fact that the address bar is also a search bar. Browsers do a good job at showing results while a domain is being typed in which gets people to click a result rather than finishing typing out the domain.

I believe cofefe.com ended at auction today at Dropcatch.

And yeah, parking sucks today, even compared to just last year.

Let's hope direct navigation through voice command will be growing with VR / AR / MR headset / glasses.

but its hard for me to know what the quality traffic is versus the bot traffic.

If you can do testing with selective country blocking and from my experience I would prevent all of AWS's blocks of IP's. It's a scummy bot ghetto.

If you don't believe me, install wordpress and use wordfence realtime and watch, I have a site with a huge 12,000 pages of content that was indexed and scraped and the crap that comes out of all the AWS area- is the worst. Bot's trying to be Go ogle and masquerading as real users. I have the paid version so blocked China, Russia, Ukraine and I even ban everything out of Germany and France too because of the bot's launching from their IP's including where Majestic and Ahref's seem to operate, etc. There are rogue bots here and there I have found all over the world though- but in general the majority I have found to land on my site from AWS. If you download the WP plugin "StopBadBots", the database is huge and you can experiment and learn more about it on your particular sites.

that would reduce traffic
not payout
not convertion
only traffic

in fact that would have increased the payout
as most will visit the same webiste over and over again
so there will be competition on that page to be shown for the advertiser
now they will bid up ( or automated g bidding will bid up )
so CPC will rise - not decline

Wow, I wish Google would block them at the source. Since I am parked 100% with Bodis at the moment, the problem is I cant actually block anything. I wish Bodis could use that bot database to block these bots in our traffic reports at least. One reason I like Bodis is that I can see my raw traffic. I dont know any other parking place that allows that. I currently see someone sniffing around a domain name of mine right now - a law firm. So its good to know in advance, to be prepared...

If I were to build my own landers then I would definitely use these bot plugins that you've referenced!

I've got some "voice" domains so I am betting on voice-technology too. :)

I've tried them all, Bodis is actually not the worst. For me at least..... I guess it has to do with the names, the traffic sources, etc. Who knows. Its such a black hole to me.

I've typically had the best performance from Bodis as well (Out of Bodis, Afternic, Sedo, Uni, PC)

Our upstream ad provider does block them, they can't load the ads so they aren't counted as an actual visitor. You see a lot of them at Bodis because they allow you to use Google Analytics. But that doesn't mean that Bodis is actually showing them in the amount of visitors you have.

it has never been alive, methinks.

It might be profitable for some, but I've mostly found it a waste of time, though it costs me nothing to use it as a convenience.

But I never did plan on making an income from parking as such. I buy domains to sell, and I'm not sure parking sites are always the best place for that.
