If you cancel a domain registration, is it immediately available for re-registration?

Basically the reason I'm asking is that I basically want to move a domain from one registrar to another. I'm wondering if I can cancel it, and re-register it at another registrar right when that register is having a reg special.

Just wondering if this is possible.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Then two that I canceled with DynaDot were NOT immediately available to register. They went through the regular drop times. The only difference is that the drop schedule started the minute that I canceled.

A domain can be deleted at once, but registrars usually send it to redemption instead. The move can still be reversed but at price.
I wouldn't try what you're suggesting, much too dangerous and unpredictable.

I have always wondered this as well. Never did cancel one yet.

1] What extension?
2] Who is losing registrar?
3] Who is gaining registrar?

My only grace delete refund ever was a misguided dot TEL, registrar was name.com and they held it after refund:
Please note that once a domain is deleted it can be restored back to your account for a period of 30 days. If you later change your mind and want your domain back, we would require a restoration fee from you in the amount of $120.00. This includes a year's renewal for the domain.

Was not paying attention to when it actually dropped and was available again : grin :

+1 if you would be bummed if you lost the domains as a result

If you grace delete the domain, with us anyway, it will be available again right away. If you mark it for deletion, it will move into Redemption after it is deleted.

Believe it or not, the reason I started this thread is because I made the mistake of registering probably 100 domains at a discount price without fully reading the TOS. I am still awaiting clarification but based on my careful reading, I am unable to push or transfer these domains until after the first full price renewal. My bad.

I have no intention of paying their full prices for these domains and in fact, I am actively trying to find a way to get the domains to another registrar, even if there is risk of losing some. I can't be bound to not even being able to push the domains. It's crazy. I should have read carefully.

So you are trying to save $10 lol

Sorry you got bamboozled, I'm such a bargain hunter I am surprised it hasn't happened to me more : roll eyes :

Care to share the registrar so we can all be warned?

per domain

Most offers usually have so many ts and cs exceptions and exclusions and time limits etc that most although not all aren't really an offer when all said and done

It might take 45 days to 3 months.
I canceled a lot because of trademark issues, yet never received any letter from trademark holders.
they were great names :xf.cry:
Now I see few of them are registered from other domainers.
Hope they won`t lose money on them.

There will be certain names that are trademarked where if the name has value as a tech venture that has a big dollop of vc raised capital such a venture would unify the trademark with the name by making considerable lucrative offers for both the name and the trademark to the individual owners of both the trademark and domain

Update:

I have spoken with the registrar in question and they have confirmed that per ICANN new registration policy, a registrar can not hold a domain past the first 60 days. My domains may be transferred out or be pushed after the initial 60 days.

YAY!
