.tv Did We Just Miss A Release of 2-Letter Names ?

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Seems that a selection of names held back by the registry just got acquired.

They include
HQ.tv
FW.tv
VT.tv
SO.tv

What happened? Was their an auction? or was this some direct private sale?

And, of course, does this mean the release of some more 2-letter names some time soon?

sn.tv seems to have expired over at Dynadot:

https://www.dynadot.com/market/auction/sn.tv

But keep in mind Dynadot's stupid rule that the original registrant still have some days to renew ever after the auction is over...

i don't see a reason for that. not all 2L are reserved and many are still reserved. maybe they just expired?

why would they release only a few? makes no sense.

This occurred with FA.tv and BJ.TV. Some of these are registry held names and others are ex drops. Lot of crazy stuff going with Chinese registrars.....

I have received confirmation that this was not a glitch. These sales were from Verisign through ROTD as an exclusive broker. Prices are not wholesale level.

Thanks,
A

Thanks for the info Ammar

So, does this mean people can now simple go to ROTD and buy the 2-letter .tv names direct?

No, only when Verisign gives the go ahead to release names. It is at the discretion of what ROTD would like to do. Even then, the sales prices that the registry will ask for will not be deemed cost effective for most domainers. Remember, ROTD is representing Verisign, so it's in the best interest to maximize price so they can continue to broker the inventory.

Thanks again Ammar.

There would be quite the rush if verisign did release a batch of 2-letter names - the buzz for SN.tv this week showed that.

They won't because they have no plan for anything with .TV. Marketing is the #1 issue. Either way, .TV stands on it's own. The sales occurring are fantastic.

As funny, sad, lame, smart as this may sound . . . I had never heard of HQTV. Naturally I googled it. I saw over and over watch HQTV ONLINE. The first page was HQTV.BIZ So I went crazy trying various combinations . . .

I saw another thread talking about what domains sound awesome outside the dotcom realm.

HQTV.ONLINE was available. :)
