This morning I was thinking about the simmering discussions over emoji domains. I'm even beginning to see some for sale here on NP. With that in mind I set out to gain a better understanding of the emoji domains.

I had a couple of conversations with members selling these, and although I didn't buy any, I did some digging and discovered that there are free emoji domains. Even single emoji. Not one penny to pay.

Now, I am by no means an expert. I only started looking into this today. I was able to register 100 single emoji domains and I may register more.

Without going to much further, if anyone is interested in this process of registering completely free emoji domains, shoot me a pm or check out my full run down here....Free Emoji Domains

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Just keep in mind you have no transfer rights over them. You would have to set up an individual account for each and every domain if you wanted to sell them.

.TO emojis you can register directly through the registry, but they run 50 bucks a pop..

If I register a bunch of free ones, then after a year decide to pay, I think I can fully transfer then...right?

FREE is not really FREE :xf.frown:
Read freenom terms, you are just using the domain, not the registrant. Moreover, the domain has to be used, if there is no visitor for the for a period of ninety days, they will terminate the domain.

@ikhub is spot on

The Terms make me really uneasy - so much so that I am not even sure I would purchase a domain in any of these ccTLD extensions

While you may be able to "register" a .tk for free at freenom, it's subject to a number of terms and limitations:

1. You do not have any legal rights to your registered domain name (ie. you don't own it). Which means you cannot transfer it.
2. 1, 2, and 3 character domain names cannot be registered for free. Neither can domain names they determine to be "special", which includes things like dictionary words.
3. You must have an existing website that will be served for your domain name. You cannot park any free registered domain name.
4. The content of your website cannot contain certain subject matter. For example, for the .gq/.cf TLD's, your website cannot contain "vulgar statements [or] rudeness", among other things.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.tk
If a domain violates any of these terms, it is replaced by a Sedo ad page, and no beforehand warning is given.

For free...i'll take my chances. For me this is just a learning experience about the emoji domains. Kind of a test drive.

At first I couldn't even figure out unicode. :)

Kind of a test drive.....and i love free sh*t.

Frankly, I almost bought one here on NP. Even though i know very little of them.

I just spent an hour learning and found a cool learning method with no cost.

Im sure my domaining brothers and sisters will figure out a way to leverage the freebies if theres a way. :)

I just know i'm not the only domainer thinking of experimenting with these and free is better imo.

Time is money they say and I must point to namepros member experiences with freenom so you don't lose money, err I mean time:
FREENOM is a scam and thiefs - Sorry not my words, the link to another thread. :xf.smile:

I dont know how i'm being scammed. I paid nada.

Again, i am not making any recommendations. I am suggesting a method to learn more and not pay.

Besides, it quenches my sunday morning desire to reg or buy more names. :)

Truth is, with the whole idn/emoji thing, they could be trash...but you know what they say, one mans trash is another mans treasure.

I feel much better about knowing a little more about how they work.

i guess its classic NP that your being hit for wasting money (or time) when you didnt spend any.

learning without spending money is a good thing.

I'm not sure what is available. When I started yesterday, I wasn't having trouble finding singles available.

I visited FreeNom.com, but in what i read, you are only borrowing a free domain.
So how can one sell a borrowed domain ?!?
FreeNom What / Free / Paid
Legal rights / Registrant acts as user of domain name, not as licensee / Registrant acts as licensee of domain name
Transfer rights / None. / Full
