One of the greatest benefits of being GoDaddy is you get to benefit from other people's laziness or misfortune. The 17 year old domain 5111.com just hit GoDaddy Auctions and it's already at $152,000. Leave a comment where you think it will close. closest person wins $20. Bid Date Bid Expires Bidder Bid Amount 2017/04/14 11:52 AM (PDT) 2017/04/23 10:20 AM … [Read more...]

This is a really good name.

If looking to compete for the $20 prize, the guess has to be made on TLDinvestors.com, I just don't want anyone commenting here thinking it counts.

OK Done. I didn't read your whole message before posting. It says nothing about you must post on TLD Investors in your opening post above.

How this is an expired domain if expiry date is 2018-03-19 ?

GOdaddy will have added another year to auction it off.

IS this a special number to warrant this price?

Sorry guys but...

Stupid Stupid Stupid

How can you justify that money?
How do you use the domain for business?
How do you use the domain at all?

Chinese bidding on these types of domains is just crazy.
I can understand 911.com or a short dictionary term.

Seriously, if not for overbidding if someone tried to give me that domain at a reg fee, and said I could not sell it, I would not take it. So much speculation here... reminds me of a housing bubble.

The current bid at Godaddy auctions: $154,000.
This is ridiculous.
Unless there is end users bidding war, there is no logic behind such high bids.
The bidder who will buy it for such amount will not be able to sell it for more or return the investment, unless developing the domain to a business website.

The domain has meaning in Chinese ! it's a different market and has it's interested people ! anyway the original owner must be dead or something to let this domain expire! why not put on auto renewal ? if he is dead what about his family his friends or his lawyer ! I hope they come back and renew the domain before it taken away by Godaddy which is legal but I feel it's stealing other people's valuable property !

The owner is more likely to renew. Unless... Unfortunate thing's happened to him/her

I reckon bidding will fizzle out at around $195k mind you 5111 is a date of birth

5/1/11 5th January 2011 in. Com plus it's a 4digit date of birth which is neat I think as much as many people have a 5 or 6 digit date of birth

Same thing they are doing in your backyard, first it was your homes, now you can't even buy a luxury car without getting the third degree. Straw buyers jacking up prices of luxury cars to export out of Country. Never ending saga. The odds favor them, as their is so much money, and so many uneducated domain investors, easy to sell the dream to some rich new money type.

$172,600 just for fun, don't see the value in it though myself.

it's because many many Chinese sites use numbers for their URL especially sites that are for the local market only; big international businesses in china use acronyms but not exclusively so

What does 5111 mean in Chinese?

Kassey Lee said on TLDinvestors.com

5111 rhymes with 唯一 (one and only one) plus two more “one”s. Can be a good brand within China, but not so globally.
