Yea..I'm pretty sure the word 'Crayon' isn't copyrighted unless I'm missing something?

There's over 350 trademarks for the word crayons.

From one mark: NO CLAIM IS MADE TO THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO USE "CRAYONS" APART FROM THE MARK AS SHOWN

Incorrect. There are over 350 trademarks that CONTAIN the word 'crayon'...the majority of which are no longer even active.

Do you think the domain is still worth something at least?

Hi OP, I am not sure about Crayon as I haven't checked but just be careful and check before registering names.

There are a lot of common words that are actually TMs, they have become household names because of their popularity..some examples below

Jet Ski
Bubble Wrap
Escalator
Dry Ice
Cellophane
Lanolin
Dumpster
Sellotape
Thermos
Trampoline
Catseye
WeedEater
BandAid
Onesies
Breathalyzer
Chapstick
Kleenex
PingPong
Popsicle
Rollerblades
Scotchtape
Realtor
Tupperware
Valcro

Thanks for that gilescoley, I've done some research and I believe the word 'Crayola' is TM'd but not the word 'Crayon'

So does anyone have a possible appraisal for this domain?

I think you will struggle to sell this one as its so specific

If people want Crayons, they go to the local store or buy them on Ebay, Amazon or Crayola.com

Crayon is French for pencil and has been used to mean pastels in English since long before trademarks existed, absolutely no chance that it could be TM'd, however this is a .de and in German the word would be sifte meaning crayons, or buntsifte meaning colored crayons.

Apple is a generic keyword, apples existed long before there was a computer company called Apple. So there is absolutely no chance that Apple could be TM right ?

Since crayons means pencils (plural) in French how is it relevant in .de ? It is not, it can only be used as a brandable/corporate name and that's where potential TM issues come into play.

If you want to sell domain names here are some the features you will be seeking:
  • no obvious TM issues
  • the domain name should have a clear purpose and be commercially viable (good brandables are ok too)
  • good extension
  • keyword should fit TLD: mixing French and German seldom works well
  • should have a large pool of potential buyers
I too think you will struggle to sell this one. I am wondering what was the thought process leading you into registering this domain.

Absolutely no chance that apple could be trademarked to sell apples, oranges to sell oranges, caterpillar, hmmm, not sure what they would be selling, that's just weird, but the point is, crayon can not be trademarked to sell or produce or whatever, if it has anything to do with actual crayons, that is what I meant.

Basically I figured that most Germans now are adept at using / understanding the English language and will also use English words within their vocabulary. 'Crayons' is a simple, easy to pronounce 1 word name which, haven spoken to a few German friends I know, understand the word and is it's meaning.

Also there appears to be software company based in Germany called Crayon who uses crayon.de which is a little reassuring.

Oh dear, you arent going to flog that dead horse again are you, I will leave you to it :xf.smile:
