Hey,

As the title says, is there money in domains?
I have been trying so many combinations and in different niches etc.

Everything good seems like it is parked and available for sale!

Hence my question.
Thank you

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If you have the right domain names that wholesalers and endusers want then yes there is money in domains.

Unless you've got money to through around, i.e. you have the funds to buy obvious, really good domains, it's not easy (it's not easy even if you got the money). Not that it's impossible, but you really have to put your mind to it. And even that might not do it cuz you're not the only one.

So no easy money in domain investing. Just like any other business really...

Money in this game is not overnight....and yes most of the good domains are taking but if there was NOT money in this game this forum would be dead!

It's a tough industry to break in to but yes there absolutely is money in domains. There is also a lot of wasted money in domains. Do some research, figure out your business strategy and only spend as much as you can afford to lose.

I know of no other industry with a higher possibility of making money with such a low investment as in domaining.

The key issue is to do it right. Sadly, most domain investors aren't doing it correctly.

This is not to say it is easy or that you will get rich doing it, but be assured that there's a lot of money in this industry.

Yes, providing you get it right. It takes a bit of patience, research and a lot of lessons learned!

It's not easy, and most people give up after a few months of blowing thousands of dollars; that's the cold-hard truth.

This and they also don't have any patience; so then they just end up just dropping all the names.

best to stick with the .com, do some research and maybe find a mentor.

Using driving as an example. You can't just read how to drive a car then jump in. You need to take the lessons, do the reading and spend a lot of money before you;re ready to hit the highway.

The same with domaining, it takes a year or two and a lot of wasted money just to get to grips with it, but it's a good learning curve and worth it in the end when the sales start coming.

As urlurl said, stick to .com (two words at most) and you'll have a better chance of succeeding early on.

I am very creative. I really do believe I can come with great names. But like I said in my first post, some great sounding domains are all for sale. Made me question myself if these ever DO sell and are developed lol

I will build a portfolio of great domains in different niches. Max spend of $2000 for this year and see how it goes from there.

I will be posting some domains soon that I have my eyes on. Probably in the domain appraisal section. Gotta familiarize myself with domain value etc too. Thanks guys for your advice!

Two words. Will look into that and find some niches that can work with that. But, I have some nice 3 word ones. Does that lower value by a lot? Thank you

Domain name strategy is to buy good domain names at low price. Good domain names does not mean sounds good, rather domain names that is directly related to goods / service, that other people would need to use.

There is a lot of money in this business and believe me when i say a LOT ! You can very easily make huge amounts of profits with no effort. Check google for the amount of money domains are sold.

↑ This!
Caveat: as with most things, you must know what you're doing. This takes time and mistakes and a little money to attain. But you're sure in the right place, here at Namepros, to start you off on this road (y)

It's getting harder to make easy cash in domaining, before 20 years ago you could have just banged your head of your keyboard selecting 3-4 letters, pressed the 'Buy .com' button, sit back for for a few years and VOILA - you would have made a fortune.

Nowadays you are more than likely going have to find the needle in the haystack to make a profit and to do this you need lots of knowledge and foresight.

It takes money to make money. This is true in domaining too. You can start with a low budget, but progress will be slower. There is a learning curve and beginners tend to waste a lot of money in dubious regs until they start getting it.
The key is (self-)education and experience.
In theory you can get great closeout names at $20 and flip them for mid-$$$ and more, but that is assuming you have a well-trained eye and you know what to buy (and what not to buy).

Everything good seems like it is parked and available for sale!
Obviously, good names are long taken, so what you do is buy good names that are undervalued, go after expired domains, even buy straight from owners.

Seems like this is getting much harder lately.

With all the new domainers bidding and pushing up the $ for all domains, even crappy ones.

Seems to get worse every year.

Forget great names, even mediocre names are starting to cost too much.

As with all bubbles, they either pop or expand. From the perspective of a growing bubble - you'll probably get your investment + holding costs back even from a "crappy" name you reg'd last year, due to market scarcity and higher investor bids across the board.

From the perspective of a popping bubble, a lot of stuff is going to drop over the coming years and it'll be available at handregs - or one of the new G's will follow .org and .net into mass-adoption, which means a LOT of single keywords will be up for grabs at minimal prices for those who are on the ball.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
